It's a happy ending, but people keep on saying the opposite. It's my assumption based on the last episode without English subs. I can't watch episode 36-40, because WeTV and iQIYI are breaking their promises and no express.

Betrayed and had no way out, Zhuge Yue riding his horse and met Zhao Che. Both talked and realized they had the same fate, couldn't escape their evil families. So they agreed to help each other solve their problems.

Zhao Che and Zhuge Yue came to catch Yan Xun and Xing Er, but the emperor geve oral edict that both were free to go. After Yan Xun and Xing Er left the execution site, 13th Prince suddenly threw up blood and fell off the platform.
The emperor and Zhao Che talked, and he had no other option but to appoint him as the crown prince. Zhao Che proposed to Huan and promised a peace forever between their kingdoms. They spent the night, but Huan left in the morning.
