I was about to watch this but after reading about the controversy with Ha Young, I don’t think I will. What…
She was asked question. It’s not like she initiated it and just started talking about how she was proud of her pro Japan grandfather. Based on her answers it’s clear she wasn’t fully aware of his past.

THIS. To me it depends whether she knew or approves of her family. If she's still proud of them after this... 😬😬😬But…
Have you looked up your great grandparents? A lot of people don’t. She probably got a sugar coated history of her ancestors from her parents and didn’t bother to look them up. So it wouldn’t be unusual for someone from her generation not to check. But as soon as she was aware that she was going to start sharing info about her family publicly, she should have researched their background. She’s not a child. I feel for her though. I hate to see another promising Korean actress blacklisted while a bunch of very problematic male actors continue their careers without worry.

I was just saying I can’t wait to see the FL in some other lead role. Her controversy is dominating my timeline. It doesn’t look good for her career at all. Wow.

I'm sorry WHAT?
A few where the FL is way too pretty for the ML: My Liberation Notes, Eve and Beyond the Bar. I would say in 60% of the cases with Kdramas, the ML is a toad with a princess. There are very Lee Jaewooks to go around. In contrast, Cdrama MLs are almost as pretty as the FLs. 😆

Person Seo Yea Ji
can somebody tell in detail why and when she was blacklisted..
Over a man. Honestly it upsets me just to go into it. She was basically accused of manipulating her boyfriend to behave badly towards a popular Kpop idol, who was his costar at the time. Kinda made her out to be a bully. Sad that there are men with worse infractions on their resume, that are confirmed, and their careers are still going.

I really like the FL. She’s the biggest stand out for me. I can’t wait to see her in something else.

I finished all episodes but I still don't get why it is our "sticky" love...
Remember the taffy metaphors.

Title The East Palace Spoiler
Is there romance or a kiss between the two protagonists?
There is no overt romance between the two but it’s clear they have feelings for each other. I think there are some status issues that create an invisible barrier between the two. In one scene he touches her and someone reacts negatively about him touching the princess. And the king outright chastises him about being a commoner and daring to give his heart to her. A bit of a warning there. So they have a legitimate in story reason why a romance can’t happen between the two.

Title The East Palace Spoiler
Like his dad, he poisoned his brothers in order to get the throne. Didn't succes in the end as his dad found out…
He was there and fully aware of what was being done on his behalf by the mother. So he is culpable. Her mom is the least culpable because she was a servant and had to obey.

it was entertaining enough that I watched all 24 episodes. But I felt like they missed out on telling a better story. They stayed enough out of the gray and red/black to keep the heroine likeable. But I think they missed the opportunity to send her down a blood thirsty path that was alluded to in her vision of her dark self. That is the character I wanted to see. They should have gone down that path and then rehabilitated her later. I wanted to see a blood thirsty, vengeful queen behind the curtain before going soft.

I thought it was a good start with a good premise. Im Jiyeon has good comedic timing. But she can also be scary as well.

As someone who has followed the Chinese entertainment industry for quite a long time, I have to say this isn’t…
The we politics of Cdramas. It’s definitely a real thing.

In the novel it was 💯 more ruthless how he installed the puppet emperor. He massacred plenty of his own just…
The 100K was not his fault but he did kill or try to kill enough innocent people to cover up and control the throne. So he’s not crazy evil like Qi Min. He’s more like a US president doing morally questionable things that he believes is for the greater good.

This isn't a plot hole. She learned how to read after being in the capital. She was getting training in palace…
You just have to assume she learned it all off camera. Although at her reading level, I’m not sure the the time adds up. She would have probably needed more time than what actually passed on the show.

That’s not really what happened. Yhe conversation between the grand tutor and Wei Yan explains the motivation. It was the emperor who was ultimately responsible. Wei Yan did make enough poor choices to get others killed though.

Title Pursuit of Jade Spoiler
Finally finished ep 40. Overall a really enjoyable Cdrama. I think I ended up settling at a 9.0 for my final score.…
In case of spoilers. I have to say that up to ep 20 I was at a 9.5 on the verge of giving this show a 10. From 20 to 25 the editing got a bit choppy. From 26 to 29 the writing got a bit questionable. From 30 to 35 you can tell they were rushing to finish it up and the story suffered. At that point I’m in 8.5 territory. But I will say, the last few episodes were very intriguing. It really made me wish the palace story was given more episodes and time to breath. I wish we got more than quick flashbacks to resolve the story of uncle, the general and the emperor. There was so much story that could have been mined but we would have needed at least ten more episodes. That whole Wei and Xie plot with the emperor could have been the basis for a second season. Maybe even dig into Qian Qian as a “traveler” plot. We could have even jumped ahead to see Boer and Ning Ning get married. The little “what if” post credit was cute. That was nice fan service. Anyway, it was a great series with late flaws I attribute to lack of time. But we have to give credit to the amazing actors and the director. Overall it was an enjoyable ride. This will be one I watch again.
