I'm curious - how competent is the female lead as the spy? Is she getting caught and/or rescued by the ML all the time? Or she gets the job done? Or the spying isn't really important here?

After spending 67 episodes of the original "Princess agents" waiting for Chu Qiao to return to her best (presented on a few flashbacks), watching her doing perfectly in the battles leading to the Lake battle, when she was slashing guys left and right, and seeing her tattoo appearing under the water.... we start pretty much from the beginning? Her being weak, vulnerable, relying on guys, etc,...?

I understand "Rebirth" isn't a linear continuation, but I'm so tired of the trope of the supposedly "badass female lead" needing growth, help, time, ML's love, etc... Especially under the circumstances I described above.

It's difficult to judge, because the original Chu Qiao for the initial 20 (?) episodes was trained back after amnesia fall (and she was clearly a total badass before, between her mother transferring majority of her skills and amnesia, but it was rarely seen on the screen).
Chu Qiao, back then, had at least 3 guys interested in her, so it's natural in the C-Drama world that she got injured/saved quite a bit to push romance forward.
It's a shitty reality of "badass female leads" that almost nobody can get away.
雙嫁 (Dai Qi Xuan) - above average "Marriage Swap" Drama. The FL made me nervous, always walking without bodyguards, staying close to crazy people, but she was also impressively smart, composed and good at planning and forward-thinking. It's interesting how rarely her original life was mentioned - I'm guessing Bai Ruo (time traveller?) was a very difficult opponent in the 1st husband's mansion. The actress playing FL is also one of the prettiest short-drama actresses around, which is a nice bonus. I liked ML as well, which rarely happens ;).
One question - if the FL has 3 guys interested in her, did the writers make her triple-incompetent, so they can help/rescue her all the time?
Which is actually not easy, but that's another story.

Desperate rebirth, which made sense, crazy 2ML, great ML+FL as a couple, nice revenge and ending.
Highly recommended.
I have this in my notes as an above-average "fake versus real sister" drama.
However, I'm yet to see a drama scoring high on Douban, which would suck, and the one ranked low, which I would rate highly.
