You want me to list modern also? And ok point taken, she might have only watched like two or three dramas ever... but then why say "I have never seen a Chinese drama with such an extraordinary story line?" To me that implies she's watched enough to have an opinion. But fine fine....

What about Nirvana in Fire? Blood of Youth? Till the End of the Moon? The Rise of Phoenixes? Love and Redemption? Blossoms in Adversity? and the list goes on and on. Just say you like Love's Ambition, no need to make it sound revolutionary in the process.

I like Haoming but he has to learn he can't just throw money at everything. He has the unfair advantage of being able to keep tabs on Xu Yan, and is still meddling in her affairs despite his decision to treat her coldly before the breakup. To me, it comes across as possessiveness more than true affection. Xu Yan isn't perfect, but she deserves better. She already admitted she was wrong for lying, she accepted his son, she put in the work with his family, and she's been extremely tolerant with Fang Lei. What more does he want? I'd like to see a handsome, well-intentioned guy enter the scene to treat Xu Yan right, and show her what real romance is. This ought to bring out the jealous side of Haoming. He needs motivation to put in the effort needed to cultivate genuine love and affection if their relationship is going to last.

Title Love's Ambition Spoiler
yo Fang Lei is so weird, like why you're so obsessed with your sister's baby daddy T^T
I think they had a fling in the distant past and broke up. Though that's no excuse to be hanging onto a man like old gum stuck to the bottom of a shoe. Lin Tao also behaves the same way, hanging around like some kind of stalker trying to drag Qiao Lin back home with him and ignoring all her protests. I see this kind of behavior over and over again in Chinese dramas, to the point where I am like, "Is this how people actually behave in China or is it how they are being programmed to behave from watching tv-shows?"

I agree that he's redeemable..... but if he keeps playing around with Fang Lei that'll change real quick. For…
I don't think she's mocking them. I think it's a mix between:

1) Her being upset with Haoming's ultimatum that she needs to perform better in public or risk losing everything she has built.
2) Expressing her displeasure and jealousy about the Fang Lei situation in the classiest way possible. She's not the type to sit around and act helpless.
3) Showing him (Haoming) that she will support him to get what he wants, even if what he wants is Fang Lei. It's also a bit of a guilt trip to do this publicly.

Title Love's Ambition Spoiler
HM tells her when she's trying to reconcile with him after cooking him dinner, he says "you are a superb actress,…
Don't forget that in the very beginning when they met by chance (which was entirely orchestrated by Xu Yan after frequently visiting his shop), she approached him under false pretenses. That was when she pretended to apply for an interview to work for him, acting like she knew everything there was to know about plants. He revealed to her that he knew she did it on purpose, but he was obviously still impressed (and even a bit intrigued) by this. Then she gave him the limited edition garden shears and he gifted her the osmanthus jam. Now, even though she did all this in the beginning just to meet him, she didn't have to continue on mounting up tricks and lies like she did. She could have chosen to come clean with him after that, since her objective of meeting him was accomplished. She had the option of starting a genuine relationship, even if it didn't withstand the scrutiny of his parents. But no, she continued on with the schemes, even though she knew he had the resources to keep tabs on her. So yeah, maybe he believed she did what she did in the very beginning because she liked him and wanted to get close. But because she kept up with the scheming and lies, it probably seemed like she wasn't genuine about trying to get close to him. So perhaps he felt tricked after realizing she was actually a bit ruthless behind the scenes, even against her own parents, while showing him a different face. But his nature was to take advantage of every opportunity, so he used her accordingly.

There are worse things Haoming could have done. I am so happy he didn't do anything with Fang Lei. I know he was…
I agree that he's redeemable..... but if he keeps playing around with Fang Lei that'll change real quick. For a man who is extra stern with Xu Yan when he's angry, he's not setting proper boundaries with Fang Lei. That girl is all over the place doing the most, threatening to harm herself every 2 days so he'll come running. Throwing herself at him like a bloody idiot. Who wants a man that bad? Then there's Haoming. He clearly still has feelings for Fang Lei, even if he tries to keep them repressed. He made it clear that he chose Xu Yan not out of love, but out of strategy. But if everything was just a performance, why has he suddenly turned cold against Xu Yan after all has been revealed? He was so warm to her before that she genuinely thought he had fallen in love with her, but even after she apologized and said she was wrong for lying first... he kept on treating her coldly. And while all this is going on, Xu Yan is feeling guilty everyday because of her choice to build her foundation on lies.... and like Pinocchio, she finds herself having to add lies to lies just to keep going. It's wild that she genuinely believes she can lie as much as she pleases but still have Haoming love and trust her. But then again, she tried to come clean and few times and he silenced her (probably because he knew the truth all along). I can't really say who's wrong or right... I just know that for them to genuinely love each other, they would probably need to start over.

OMG episode 14!!!! Lusi's performance was so riveting!!! I always found her to be highly talented but now I AM CONVINCED she is the best female actress in the industry right now, hands down. Sometimes they put her to feature in questionable roles with poorly written scripts, but seeing her get to use her full skillset as an actress in Love's Ambition is so refreshing. She submerses herself fully in the role, we can FEEL her emotions because they are so PALPABLE.... SO CONVINCING. Let me tell you, a good actor knows how to deliver a script, but a GREAT actor knows how to deliver without saying a word!!! She had me hanging onto my seat near the end of that episode... I was like.... "PHEW, she's so unpredictable, what will she do next????"

Ep 14 - the scene where she makes him the western dinner and tries to make amends …. Wow…. Bravo on the acting.…
I always knew Zhao Lu Si was talented, but her performance in this series, especially in episode 14, OMG... this might be the best performance I've ever seen from a Chinese actress.

After knowing what she went through this weight loss is even more evident and I'm so sadd seeing her like this…
Honestly, I hope she's alright and that the weight loss has nothing to do with her recent challenges. I know sometimes actors might gain or lose weight depending on the role, so I thought she lost weight to look more mature (more like an adult as compared to her usual girlish look). Of course, I realize she's wearing eyelashes and everything, which is a first (I've watched so many shows with her as the FL and she never wears eyelashes). So, maybe her career has gone to the next level in terms of having less cutsey, naive, ditzy roles.

Goodness, I've never seen this side of Zhao Lusi before. Her performance is much more mature than usual, which is surprisingly refreshing! And omg she's SO STUNNING!!! Did she lose weight or something? (I'm asking because her face is much leaner than normal). Also, am I the only one who squealed at the love making scene in episode 1? I was like.... Xu Yan ain't playing around...lol.

From the comments on here, we are probably amongst the few that have similar opinions on this drama. I think it's…
Crlon, it's so funny you mentioned this because the female lead (Wang Ying Lu) plays Feng Bao Bao in the show "I AM Nobody." And funny enough, that role requires her to be extremely one-dimensional (almost biorobotic), but this is intentional (and she actually suits the part quite well). But after seeing her acting in When Destiny Brings the Demon (and I must admit, she did try very hard to come out of her comfort zone), I am absolutely convinced that she was also miscast. It finally hit me that I never really appreciated how certain actors can be placed in almost any role, while others have to be carefully positioned in roles that suit their strengths.

On When Destiny Brings the Demon Sep 15, 2025
I cannot express in human words how overhyped this show is. I remember when I was first introduced to Arthur Chen as the ML in "Lighter & Princess," I thought he did an amazing job and overall, I really enjoyed the show. Then I watched Ever Night, and now When Destiny Brings the Demon, only to realize.... his performances are actually EXTREMELY one-dimensional—he's not a versatile actor at all. At first, I wondered if the issue was him being miscast into a role that did not suit his performance style.... and while this is probably the case, I still can't get over how absolutely listless and wooden his performance was (in When Destiny Brings the Demon). It baffles me because again, this approach suited Lighter & Princess perfectly, and Ever Night as well, so I can't say he's a terrible actor. However, after watching When Destiny Brings the Demon, I'm convinced that either he completely lacks versatility in his performance style, or he simply hasn't shown any improvement as an actor over the years.

Dear Nita, fans of the drama appreciate both his unwavering hard work and his dashing appearance as an actor,…
Thank you, this is a VERY well-seasoned cabbage. Not to be facetious though, when you say "the ML is indeed an adult who just shrank into a smaller version".... I wouldn't exactly call reverting into child form simply "shrinking" (wouldn't shrinking technically be him scaling down to a miniature version of his adult self?). Also, when you say, "Just a 2nd reminder; this story is inside a FANTASY world," when did I imply that I thought it wasn't? Are you trying to say that anything goes as long as it's in a "fantasy world?"

Title Shadow Love
I like Ryan Cheng, and I really wanted to like this c-drama.... but I can't be the only one a bit freaked out by the main premise of the show. I know I'll be shredded to pieces for saying this but having him (Ryan Cheng) turn from a man to a small boy and then to a man again is already a bit strange (considering that most of his fan base lusts after him). But then to have the female lead (Song Yi) take care of him in his boy form and fall in love with him in his man form... that bit is side-eye worthy. Personally, I find it a bit cringe, and even distracting tbh. I salute all the people that can enjoy the show despite the questionable love story.

P.S.: Please season your cabbages before you throw them at me. Thank you.
