Title Love beyond the Grave Spoiler
Just imagine it's a switch of roles where Simu is ml and Duan Xu is fl, then it makes all the sense. In male centric…
Yeahhhhhh. At least early on in the mortal world DX had some power. He took down that enemy camp single-handedly, beat that initial battle, beat that one on one battle with the other member of the All-Knowing, etc. Gosh, even after they exchanged the first senses HS gave him her spirit lantern and then he got to temporarily be a badass spirit user when she was vulnerable. So even if HS was objectively more powerful, the drama still maintained balance by depicting that DX was also powerful in his own way as a mortal. He had his own plot with the war stuff, which got compleeetely glossed over in the first 30sec of episode 13 (I think). Then he went to the Void and since then his characters only real purpose has been to chase after the FL no matter how much she pushes him away or even blatantly rejects him. Even upon his return to the mortal realm he lost his position as a general, and his screen time became mostly about pining for the FL. Some of his individual plot did come back, but it got overshadowed very quickly when the FL went back to the mortal world and they got reunited. Then it became all about the ML chasing her, even after she rejects him some more 😂 I only watched until like 30, but he uses his whole fake wedding to chase the FL even after she pushes him away again. Yeah they get together, but she’s initially reluctant until she very formally agrees. Then there is some reciprocity of feelings, but not for long. Apprently there is a 5 year time jump in episode 34, the ML needs to get rescued by her in the mortal realm, he’s literally killing himself and making himself physically weaker each time he gives her his senses (he knows it, but doesn’t tell her and keeps doing it anyway), and he also gets kidnapped / used by the bad guy to control He Simu. It all just continues to feel really imbalanced. OH, and then she breaks up with him again 😂

I don’t think that the issue is with power, per say, at least not for me. What the issue IS is that the ML stopped having much of a purpose outside of being a golden retriever to the FL after he went to the Void. They never developed the history with his sword, even though it clearly has connections to the spirit realm. Even back in the mortal realm the vast majority of the plot was about him chasing the FL. Whereas in the first few episodes he had his battles, his fights, his scheming and she had her own stuff. Yes there has been some of that back in the mortal realm, but it hasn’t been developed much. The biggest issue I had was the complete imbalance of the romance. The drama has been all about him chasing. All about him pining. About him clinging onto here with very little or no reciprocation from her. She stole his memories of the illusion. She called all the shots. She pushed him away / rejected him again and again. And he continued to chase. Continued to pine. Wasn’t allowed to move on, etc.

Yeah I had the same issues and ultimately dropped it. I’m still following the discussions cause I am curious…
I loved the first half so much. Wasn’t too impressed with the last third. Wish the secondary characters consumed less screen time, wish the main leads had more, wish that Xie Zheng wasn’t written into the background and that his revenge plot had more screen development and I wish he had more of the spotlight. The secondary characters / relationships had more development than the ML in the latter half. Not everyone agrees, not everyone cares, and that’s okay 🤷🏼‍♀️

The drama started off really strong, but lately it’s starting to feel like a chore to get through. The male…
Yeah I had the same issues and ultimately dropped it. I’m still following the discussions cause I am curious about how it ends, but I have like four other dramas that I’m into right now. I think I came into LBtG with some residual saltiness about similar complaints about PoJ, which lessened my tolerance for unuequally developed / capable leads lol

I like how you automatically take criticisms like this and believe that the OP is misogynistic and making the criticisms because of gender. I have the exact same struggles with this drama and it has NOTHING to do with the gender roles. If the roles were reversed and it was a powerful ML with an underdeveloped FL most people would still have the same complaints. I would. I believe most people that are struggling a little with this drama would like to have their leads on equal footing. Stop making insinuations about a critical posts like this.

Not super impressed tbh :/ He did all of the chasing. Literally. He even chased her with his wedding.

Noo i was just about to ask if this drama have equal weight in romance.😭I'm tired of oneside with ml doing…
Yeah it’s very one-sided 😞I mean she does care about him romantically, but he does 90% of the chasing and I watched through 28.

In episode 29, she starts acknowledging her feelings for him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t hear her, she’s in…
Yeah that doesn’t count in my eyes. :/ I ended up dropping.

Yeah so this is a drop 😞I got weary of the one-sided romance and after spoiling myself on upcoming stuff I realized that I wasn’t thrilled to find out that DX has literally done ALL of the work with the romance. Like all of it. Even the wedding was him chasing her. Upcoming trailers seem to indicate that DX needs to get rescued and then he gets used somehow as a bargaining tool by the villain. I think I just realized after finishing episode 28 that I had stopped getting the butterflies during the romantic scenes, and that I actually preferred DX with Wang Suyi and felt more excited at the idea of them having an arranged marriage. After realizing that last night I was like oh, well maybe it’s time to drop. I wish He Simu did more chasing an carried more weight in the romance. I also realized I missed the very early episodes when the leads felt equal. They haven’t felt equal ever since they all went to the Void.

Yes kind of agree. 28 eps in and Simu is still all over the place in terms of her character, one minute a terrifying,…
Yeah I like He Simu as a character and she’s got some good development, but it would have been nice to see her pursue him a little instead of watching the same dynamic on repeat for 30 episodes. I am still enjoying the drama for the most part, but I don’t get the warm fuzzy feelings about their scenes anymore because it’s more or less the same. Duan Xu chasing. Duan Xu pining. Duan Xu getting rejected. Duan Xu pining some more. I would have been doing a lot more swooning if He Simu was chasing him more.

I guess her indifference has lot to do with her character setting, she is like this in the novel too but once…
I don’t mind the role reversal at all - if it was a cold and distant ML and a warm FL I still would have wanted to see him chase her fo a bit if she spent the entire show chasing him and getting rejected over and over again. I would have wanted her to take steps to move on and see someone else. To me it isn’t about the gender, just the imbalance of the romance. I get He Simu’s character and appreciate her development, but it still bothers me a little that Duan Xu has done all of the chasing, spent the drama getting rejected and hasn’t even been allowed to have another love interest. It’s not like He Simu is the only character with trauma and a difficult life. Yet the drama has become mostly about Duan Xu trading his five senses to her, chasing her, getting repeatedly rejected, giving some more, getting rejected, etc. It’s the one sidedness of all of it, it wouldn’t matter to me if the roles were reversed I still would feel the same, I just wanted to see her chase him a little.

Still enjoying the drama, but I am on episode 27 and am starting to feel a little annoyed with how one-sided the romance has been for 70% of the show now. We haven’t really seen her chase him at all. I had high hopes for their reunion in the mortal world, but outside of a few scenes of implied jealousy she’s just as cold and distant as ever. At this point I wish that Duan Xu would have been allowed to entertain feelings for someone else. Like how much more do we have to watch him get rejected again and again? 😕I do sort of know what happens in the upcoming episodes, but I was really hoping we would get to watch her chase him for a while. It doesn’t look like we will.

Just today and tomorrow
It’s the streaming company’s decision to release one episode per day and they do it for a lot of reasons that I personally don’t fully understand. With Pursuit of Jade we had TWO WEEKS of basically having one episode released per day and it likely to keep their viewers coming back for more episodes and therefore increasing revenue / profit from viewership. It’s probably the same in this case. We are supposedly coming up to some BIG scenes in the drama, and the novel readers have been saying that the best scenes in the novel are coming up in the drama. So if they drag it out a little more, all of the viewers will keep watching and it boosts their revenue. They’re taking advantage of the pivotal scenes coming up with the wedding and the excitement for it. On Saturday we should be getting two episodes.

why are they sleeping with the windows open during winter?! ive been wondering this for so long because of cdramas
I think that because they also have fire hearths and things for warmth that opening windows helps with the oxygen flow. If they always had their windows closed, perhaps the fires would suck up all of the oxygen.

I like HeJia Feng Yi so much for what he's trying to do for Simu. It sucks that we only get one episode :( I really…
We have only one tomorrow too 😞
