The final 2 episodes dropped the rating so much for me, it turned from a medical drama with some romance to some…
I feel the same way. Last two episodes turned this drama from an 8 to a 6.5. Not only were they messy plot-wise, but the characters (FL especially) were inconsistent during those last episodes.
Making a medical drama takes a lot of work, so kudos for the execution and effort. The end of life issues are complex…
And those last couple of episodes is what made me give it a 7/10 rather than an 8.5/10. Despite the messy subplots, I was enjoying the show precisely because of the leads chemistry and mature, open interaction.
But the last couple of episodes show how big a coward the ML was, unable to properly think about what she needs (his support) rather than making assumptions based on his own feelings. I thought that was a jerk move and was handled poorly. He may have been there for her physically, but what she needed was emotional support.
Then we get all that fiasco about cutting communication. What troubles me is the message (which I've seen in other dramas as well) which is that when she's at her weakest, he will be there. But when the ML is at his weakest, he must deal with his problems alone and ONLY come back to the FL when he's recovered. I mean... isn't love about trust and being together in sickness as well as in health? It's a troubling message to be putting out there that you'll only be desired if your at the top of your health.
THEN add to that that Dr. Lee was in the know when the FL wasn't... and it becomes even more unbearable. She was there for the ML since the beginning. If anyone had earned the right and trust to help the ML in his time of need, it would be her.
Now, I could've accepted all that if they had AT LEAST addressed the issue. Addressed the lack of trust the ML showed towards the FL (because it was that) and have the characters deal with it. Have the ML understand that was he did was selfish (even if he believed he was being generous to the FL) because he, once again, NEVER took into account her feelings. Have the ML work to get the FL trust back via a second time-skip or something. At the very least, don't make it too easy for him to stroll back into her life and have all the pieces fit back perfectly.
Also, I agree with the shoes. How I saw it, they depicted the FL without the ML as a bitter, crazy woman. I mean she even gets that nickname! She wears uncomfortable shoes and doesn't act like herself, acting instead like the ML when he was in jail. It was so bizarre and unneeded. I mean... she looked unhinged. UNTIL the ML comes back, then she returns to how she used to act, dress and wear... Could they not have shown her still acting like herself?
TBH, now that I've ranted... I feel like dropping the rating even more to a 6.5/10 just for the mistreatment of the FL's character by the end of the show. So disappointing. And that's ignoring how they handled and closed all those messy, unnecessary plot-points lol. Even the whole thing about the FL's father possibly being euthanized was taken off the table and conveniently wrapped.
is this recommendable? hmmmm I'm currently watching something right now and looking forward on this any thoughts?
I'd say this one will depend on your mood. It is slow-paced and, if you're tired, you may have a hard time not falling asleep to it. There's more "intrigue" than "action" after all. However, the story is interesting and the characters are complex. It gets better during the second half, but --so far-- for me it's an 8/10 (with the first half being a 7.5/10, so this is a show that gets better as it progresses).
A good show, but probably a one-time watch and not precisely a show that has me on pines and needles waiting for the next episode; but which it's still interesting enough for me to keep coming back during the weekend.
Me: looks interestingMe: reads tagsMe: sees crybaby and weak female leadMe: BYE!!!!
I would advice, like some others already have, that you try it out for yourself. Personally, i don't consider the FL as a crybaby or a weak lead. In fact, her emotional intelligence, quick thinking, capacity to adapt and activness are things which earn her a most deserved spot as a "strong female lead".
Keep in mind that we are all differt. Something someone hates can be something you love. So it's better to try it out for yourself before passing judgment. My two cents ;)
The irony of having both leads from Love O2O & Legend of Fu Yao in the same article! I personally wouldn't consider Wei Wei a good character, simply because she isn't well written.
On that point, LO2O was the first Chinese drama I tried, which I ended up dropping. As a consequence, I refused to watch Chinese dramas thinking I would find the same poor quality of both writing and acting.
That is until I watched Legend of Fu Yao, which showed me Chinese dramas could be amazing! Now I've already watched, loved and finished 3 more C-dramas since then. One of them being "Nirvana in Fire" which also features quite a number of strong female leads, apt to be any person's role model for sure!
I agree that the relationship between FL and MIL in "Marriage, Not Dating" makes Mom a standout amongst drama…
Agreed! She was such a great character and felt so realistic. And, if you think about it, that drama actually had a very progressive message by Korean standards! And we can't forget the Grandma character, who was also a standout! I mean, she took her daughter-in-law's side and even stayed with her! It was so heartwarming!
I've only seen half of those shows and I agree. Other nice MILs that come to mind: > Come & Hug Me > Kill Me, Heal Me | Referring to the FL's mom with this one. Though she doesn't have a lot of scenes with the ML. Whenever they are all together, she treats the ML kindly. > Marriage, Not Dating | The FL & her MIL had some clashes, but through it all, they develop deep bonds of friendship, respect and love. The relationship between them is very similar to the one depicted in King2Hearts.
I feel the same :). It's a perfect blend of a drama that manages to feel both sort of lighthearted and emotionally…
Well with the amount of chemistry between the ML & FL, as well as all the visual cues we are getting, I'd be surprised if they didn't establish a romantic relationship.

My grandfather had tumors in his head and his death was painful and dawned out. He kept asking us to kill him because the pain was so intense.
The important thing is to make a distinction between living and simply breathing.
