I love this drama, because of the time loop theme in this story it's very interesting.. it's funny and hilarious..…
Thank you for reading! Indeed, this drama is certainly for people who are in the mood to watch something absurd. And yet, it still has a strong message as well!
This sounds a lot like the plot for the K-drama "Lovely Horribly," which despite the promising premise, delivered a messy plot and underwhelming story. Hopefully, this one will not follow along that path.
Everybody talks about her only in Korean Odyssey but her last role was in the Crowned Clown an she was terrific…
Oh, you are right! I watched the Crowned Clown but didn't recognized her until you've mentioned it! I still feel she didn't show a lot of range in that one either. I am hoping her character is written more complex here so she can showcase more of her acting. So far, I am liking her character :)
Wow! What an amazing start! Hope they can keep this great pace on! Love both leads but Kang Shi Yeong (the FL) showed some incredible acting skills. How she's able to show so much pain with just her eyes has impressed me! I liked her in Korean Odyssey, but she's showing a lot more range here for sure!
I really had to muscle through the last six episodes in order to finish it. The amount of filler is no joke and will keep me from recommending this drama unless you're a big fan of fluff. I'm giving it a 6/10 because the first half was entertaining and I really enjoyed the secondary couple's interactions (few as they were).
Finished this drama and gave it an 8/10, though a 7.8/10 would've been more accurate.
Though the plot was predictable, inconsistent and a bit of a mess, I didn't grow bored with the story. Unfortunately, the acting was subpar, which made me subtract more points. Although some actors (such as Wang Xin, who played Wu Yan) showed acting chops that surpassed everyone else, that also made the rest of the cast feel very novice. Their acting just felt quite monotonous to me, which made it hard for me to care about them.
Nonetheless, it's a decent drama to pass the time which dishes out a hefty dose of food for thought when it comes to "being passive in the face of evil". Full disclosure, I gave a brownie point to the writer for providing an active and always plot-involved female lead.
Loved this article! Made me remember why I even came to love this. I love the format, btw. I tend to skim to things…
Thank you, NotMuch, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The Last Empress was so good, the last couple of episodes really hurt it, I feel. But I still wanted to write an article because (ignoring those last episodes) it was an excellent series with a very strong (and active) female lead!
I think the fantasy aspect wasn't handled that well in this drama, tbh. Or maybe I expected the writer to better lay the terms, rules and whatnot of the angels.
As to The Nodku Flower, keep in mind that I have a soft spot for tragic characters and more mature/dark plot-lines so that one satisfied my tastes perfectly (and the pacing was great throughout!). However, if you don't enjoy those types of plot as much, I would recommend you alternate watching that one with something lighter like this one. That way The Nodku Flower might be easier to digest. :)
I'm curious to hear your thoughts once you get past the halfway mark. By the comment section and reviews, there doesn't seem to be a consensus, lol. Even I am still trying to decide whether I liked it or not. Though my impression of it is also marred by the other shows I'm watching, because I can't help comparing them. The Nodku Flower was a 10/10 for me, for example, which contributed in giving this show a lower score.
Meh.. He kinda deserves that. I understand that he came from a broken family but he's no different from those…
Hahaha not a problem, we all have our opinion and none of us are wrong. I tend to always have a soft spot for a character who's written morally ambiguous, always working as a shade of grey. And Woo Do Ha was actually the most complex character in this show for me.
Not sure what you're looking for, but I'm going to share my general opinion on the show in case it's helpful in your decision. I'm marking it as spoilers since you mentioned you don't mind them.
In general, the show starts great (the first half). The writer sets some plot-points which shows great promise. I was especially interested in the one involving the 2ML, who we learn is a fallen angel.
Unfortunately, like with many k-dramas, the second half doesn't deliver. The best way I could describe it, is that the story loses focus. Rather than focus on the problems or the angel-related "rules and lore", the writer chooses to focus on the romance, adding plenty of fluff to draw things out.
As a result, the antagonists lose relevance (I'm still unsure what was the point in adding them, tbh), the plot becomes predictable and the interesting subplots get abandone. The 2ML has little to no development. Although, to be frank, that's the case for all characters, really.
The story also wraps up in a rather anticlimactic way; with a "deus ex machina" sort of ending (which I'm not fond off). If you're hoping for a happy ending, it has one. It's just the way the writer got us there seemed very uninspired and was, therefore, disappointing.
Full disclosure, I still gave it an 8/10 precisely because the first half was really good and the director gifted us with some memorable montages. But my interest dwindled by the second half and I ended up skipping some of the fluff because I was getting bored. I forced myself to finish the last two episodes out of a sense of completion more than interest.
TL;DR: Would I recommend the show?
I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If you don't mind a simple story, with characters who don't get a lot of development, a great soundtrack, a good production and you enjoy romance-centric stories (fluff and all), then sure!
Otherwise, I'm on the fence whether you should watch or skip it. I guess you could always give it a try with the right expectations, knowing the first half loses steam should help diminish your disappointment at the lackluster way they end the story.
What a beautiful show! 10/10 for me. This is one of the few series where I would change absolutely NOTHING. Great watch and highly recommend it! While I loved all the characters, I found Baek Yi Hyun the most interesting and really kept me coming for more. I'm impressed by the actor and hope he lands complex roles like the one here, which truly made his acting skills shine.
