I hope you can keep reading`it, is a really good novel, the translation is much better starting from chapter 30, it`s like you`re reading a different novel, and from then it starts the fun, i remember that i wasn`t winned in completely too by the first 20 and some chapters.
My love for the novel make me willing to stick until now here, hoping that by writing comments and answering questions about the novel, other people will give the novel a chance to read, as it`s highly likely for people to enjoy the novel, if they liked the drama, as the bl content is not to much. Trust me, it can be read by even people who don`t normally read bl novels as Priest is very stingy with her romance, only enough, never too much, but his writing is so good that i still comeback to read her novels.

This is the last comment i will made on this page, as the abundance of irrelevant comments lately here, it`s stressing me out, and make me feel i waste my time here. Sometimes i think people are posting something just to increase the number of comments.

I wish people will try to start dicussions centered more about the drama and novel, real discussions, with more few and large posts that actually makes people happy and worth reading, and refrain from asking things that can be found by scrolling down or searching on the page.
If things continue like this, the valuable, informative and beautiful comments will be lost in the sea of repetitive and frustrating comments, and it`s a pity.

I will be happy to reply to questions like you are asking, helping someone who don`t understant something or having interactive discussion on something that can be interpreted differenty in the drama or in the novel, it would be much more interesting, but questions similar to the one you made is at this point even hard to find in the other irrelevant comments.

So, in the novel, the mask that ZZS is wearing is different that the one in the drama, it can be described as a single mask that has multiple layers or multiple thin masks that are tightly glued or united together.
Is mentioned at some point, or is implied, i don`t remember exactly as it have been some time since i read he novel, and if i remember right he has to remove a layer after a period of time pass or something like this, what i do remember in the novel it took ZZS a lot of chapters until he took the mask down, he didn`t reveal himself as early as in the drama.
So, in the drama he don`t have a mask anymore, in the novel, you haven`t arrived at the moment when he has taken`it down.

Another exceptionally good author is Meng Xi Shi, and it has a about 3 cultivation novels, and one historical that are curently translated in NU.
One of the novels was the novel that Sleuth of Ming Dinasty was adapted from and because they messed up the story a lot and they messed up in casting actors who actually has chemistry, i couldn`t bear to watch that drama more than one episode.

Thousand autumns it`s very similar with this novel, only the characters are a bit more different, one is a truly bad gay, a real villain, but decent human being, just realistic to the core and after living for a long time, he can only see and expect for the people that he encounters to show their dark, cowardly side, and who enjoys to challenge and bring the other romantic interest in danger all the time, or create situations, so he will be pushed to his limits and fall to the dark side. And the other one, very kind, wise and firm on his believe, nothing can shake him , lol, that if he can be good, kind to someone, he will, as he think it don`t cost anything, and the good things he does, it will be returned to him , and ever if he is betrayed over and over again he will still stick to this principle.
They make such an unique dynamic, that you can`t help but love.
This novel has a donghua airing in wetv now, and has a few eps released on youtube, named Thousand autums as well.
And the novel will be adapted in a drama too, as he has a mydramalist page made here.

Yes, it was racking my brain and don`t remember this thing to be mentioned in the novel. Any romantic relationship that he had, if he had, was not mentioned at all in the novel, most likely he was never in a relationship before meeting Wen Kexing, as i think he was taken from when he was little to train and then he was busy do the dirty work of that crown prince.

About the novel Guardian, it`s a bit more hard to connect with the characters and continue to read the novel, because of how the romance was writed and because of the abundance of mythology, that frustrates me too, i think that was a mistake, as it can really turn off a lot of readers.
I think what this novel do the best as, is how unique the author imagines and describe Shen Wei and Yunlan. Not only them, but the other characters too are charming, and different from each other, any of them were presented as a complete package as the two main characters, and this is what it motivate me to finish reading the novel.
I had an issue of how the the romance started, because it don`t do much to the overall plot and i can find`it hardly to believe based on the information provided, that the person Shen Wei was when he first meet Yunlan in the first life , at the part when the ghost king meet Kunlun, had enough self-awareness and experienced enough to know what love means, it appeared to me the ghost king to be more infatuated and grateful to the person Yunlan was at the time aka, Kunlun. And Kunlun as well, was described as caring for the ghost king more as a brother, than treating him seriously, he didn`t take his words seriously, and take him as a child sometimes.
Thus, i had i hard time to believe, this longtime deep love, Shen Wei harbored for Yunlan all those long freaking years, a lot of lifetimes.
Maybe he loved him, but the author didn`t manage to convince me.
I believe Shen Wei and Yunlan did come to love each other, but only in he present, only after having interacted enough and experienced how good they click together and are attracted to each other, and knew more about each other.
All that dramatic story of them in the past i feel it hinders the development of them as a couple, than helping.
Usually, the best moments that are experienced by the characters writed by Priest are getting better and better as you read, not the other way around.
This is something i observed, as the characters get closer, the funny, heartwarming and hilarious moments increase, as to give to readers and the characters a treat and compensate them for all the obstacles she put in their path.

That`s why i was saying lol, writing on chinese websites is problematic, you also said this, i don`t know to read, write chinese, i don`t go to those websites to comment, the majority of people here don`t. I do agree with you on the fact that people should try to refrain from writing comments about how it passed censorship, so as not to attract unwanted attention from China government, but if it didn`t happen until now, i think the chance of this happening now is low.
What i think a bit different than you, is that the people should write less about the BL aspect of the series, as by doing this, people will normalize and treat this drama like any other heterosexual series, this is a thing impossible to achieve, and i say this after i went to all mydramalist pages of danmei live adaptations.
The bl aspect is an extension of the bl novel that this drama is based on and this drama after all is trying to cater more to the fans of the bl novel, persons who like to watch bl dramas and people who are part of the LGBT community, these people are the majority viewers of dramas like this.
This is the one of the few places where they can write freely, without having to worry of other people saying bad or hurtful words about the things they like to read or watch, where they can also share and write happily about the bl aspect of the drama.
Why they should restrain to write about what they like, when a page like this where everyone can write unrestrainly and can share their joy about something they really enjoyed by watching the episodes, was made or exist.
It may seems that what they`re doing is not useful, like it may be more productive to talk less about the bl aspect of the two main leads relationship, as this will normalize the bl relationships and make them as popular as heterosexual one, but people will always like what they like, they will not like watching dramas like this more, if the ones who continue mentioning the bl aspect will stop talking less about this, people don`t change that easily.
And i think oppositely, it`s more effectively to talk about`it, to encourage people to try watching this kind of dramas, even if they never watched before a danmei adaptation, and after experience`it themselves, they will become more open to it, I saw this happen with a lot of people here.

A issue on this novel is that the first 30 chapters are translated by the weakest translator within the three translators that translates the novel.
The translation is more simple done and many nuances are lost. For the people who manages to read until chapter 31 they will immediately spot a difference in quality of the translation.
And another thing particular about Priest novels, i and as some people posted in their reviews of her novels in NU, the majority of her novels are hard to get into by only by reading 1-2 chapters, and get hooked by the story only after reading about 10-20 chapters, as the author tends to focus extremely on describing the events that it happens, all the important characters in those first chapters.
Essentially, she tries to show the big picture, and this can turn off some readers that have not patience or wants to read the novels as quickly as possible.
This happened to me too, and also, to fully enjoy her novels the chapters have to be read slowly, and sometimes it`s better to take breaks between chapters.
Silent reading is the only novel of her that hooked me up for the start, it charmed me so much, i couldn`t believe`it, but crime/investigation is my favorite genre, so this may have something to do with it.
