I also don't like the main actors that much, but nothing is confirmed yet, just rumors. This is the second time MDL add the rumoured main actors in the cast section, to take them soon after down.

Xie Lian is not weak and he don't look that weak in the novel.
He should look as being able to defend himself well and get himself out of dangerous situations, he survived alone for hundreds of years. He is presented as being especially caring and soft toward Hua Cheng. He is still a tough guy, his willingness to live with his head high after all the humilliation he has been through, all the hardships he has been through is very admirable.
He should be played by someone who at least is very talented, even if don't have much experience. I'm not that pleased with Ding Cheng Xin also, as he is similar and he looks as young as Winwin, but at least he had some dramas under his belt, and he really impressed me in Painted skin short movie made by Gou Jingming.
If someone who don't have decent acting, but he also looks young, inexperienced plays XL, it will make the character a naive, fool, weak, easy to take advance kind of character, that it's the opossite of how XL is in the novel.

I think the rumour that they are in talks with Wayv Winwin is not true. I would be too hilarious, he don`t have any acting experience, is too much of a risky move.
He looks too young, he still looks like he has baby fat, he is also tall and lean, he would look like a joke in ancient costumes
I like him as a singer, and i think that he received some training in acting , as i think SM does have in plan to let him act in China in the future, as he is a rapper in the group, and they are a lot of rappers in NCT better than him. But i don`t think they will try to cast him in a main role that has this much high expectations and can put a lot of pressure on him, as his first role.

This drama has Wang Duo in the cast, a really exceptional actor, and Cheng Yi too, it should get some hype.

Someone, just a moment ago mentioned Wang Duo as YWS, and i really agree, he is such a good match. He is a good, charismatic actor, who i can imagine playing YWS, and who can play convincingly bad guy type of characters. I saw him in L.O.R.D movies series, he was amazing really.
Oh, i saw he is in A league of Nobleman as a support role, and is playing a main role in General Order, i hope the casting is true. It seems he don`t really shy away from taking roles in dramas adapted from bl novels

Hu Ge looks too old now to play on ancient cdramas. He was still looking fine, attractive when he played on Nirvana in Fire six years ago, but still looking a bit older than his age there too. Now he really looks more older, and the ancient/period costume he will make him look more older. And if you look as his dramas, he didn`t stared in an ancient cdrama in years, i don`t think he will play YWS.

WOA, you`re amazing really, how i could forget about him, he is perfect as both HC and YWS.

I think chances are higher that he has a shot for YWS, if he want to audition for YWS, as i think in HOB they will cast younger actors. But i would love to watch him as HC too, as he really look young enough to play San Lang too.

He knows he is straight up evil and lives to his reputation'"---- i think the same, the reason why deep down this is my favorite novel is because of how YWS is writed.
I`m one of the few people that like the novel because of YWS and not SQ.
I feel the way Meng Xi Shi write him is brilliant, the most unique character i read in all novels translated of her on NU. Not many authors can have the ability to imagine and write a character as well as how YWS was writed.
The way he was writed made me from really hate him and want to beat him, to love him like not other, all because of how charismatic was writed and how well the events around him were described.
He stayed true to himself until the end, and is writed consistently until the end, he does what he wants, he don`t apologize when he think he shouldn`t. I loved that he didn`t apologize to SQ for all the bad things he did to him before he realised his feelings, and never tought too much or felt quilty for that, as he didn`t like him at that point, he treat thim as he would have treated others.
I also liked how fearless he is, never backing down on any challenge, any trap
even if he knew about it beforehand, even if he knew that he may die.
His willingness to face everyone , to not run away from things he think is not in his character, is really admirable.
SQ is as amazing also , i love how wise he is, and how he understand why YWS did what he did. The way he is showed that he started to like YWS after he realised that and only after he saw that YWS is really sincere towards him, and keep continuing to make efforts in that direction, and even after that, only after a long time has passed, taking his time, without any rushing, is brillant as well.
I find the slow paced and subtly development of the relationship between SQ and YWS, as one of the most realistic i read.

The novel was picked to be translated recently and will be completely translated soon. In case you didn`t finished reading, or you would want to reread the novel sometime in the future.

The novel is not too much, lol, the donghua is making the relationship between YWS and SQ more flirtlier and closer than is in the novel between them, at this point in time.
Meng Xi Shi style in describing romantic scenes is similar with Priest, stingy. Particular in her case, is that always at least one of the two main characters in all the novels writed by her is very shameless, and the main characters are bickering a lot in her novels.
Peerless is the most hilarious novel of her, it has both main characters as shameless , so they`re always digging pits for each other.
Here YWS is another degree of shamelesness, the most shameless character i come across too. If he wasn`t like that, he wouldn`t have managed to move SQ, who is not interested in being in a relationsip with anyone . I think SQ would not have any romantic partner if it wasn`t for YWS.
I was like, i wasn`t expecting much, but the donghua give us much more fluff and moments that can be explained as being ambiguous.
As i read the novel, i do know that a this point YWS is not realising his feelings, and is being his usual teasing and manipulative self, but those who didn`t read the novel, will see YWS as going after SQ because he likes him and maybe that a lot of things are going on, but are not showed, because of the censorship, HAHAHA.
I think they did this, for the scenes that happens in the future, when things are really starting to heat between them and YWS starts seriously teasing and flirtling, to pass censorship more easily, by explaning that YWS was like this from the start, and not give the impression that something changed too much.
I also think the casting of YWS will be the deal breaker and this will depend if the drama will be succesful of not.
If all go well, i really think the drama will be remembered for a long time.

Yes, i knew about A league of nobleman, but the cast is not bad and at some degree similar with the ones in the novel. I read the first chapters of the novel, the actors seems to give me a similar vibe, but i can be wrong. The author seems to be against the casting of Song Wei Long, is not as talented as other actors, but he seems charismatic in the trailer, so maybe the production team did the right choice.
The most important thing to me, is for them to have chemistry and they do seem to have here, and seeing them in the drama, will make me enjoy reading the novel more. The novel is really good and charming writed, i would be angry too if they changed too many things. What i`m grateful for also, the budget seems to be high, as the trailer is really amazing, it make me feel i am watching a movie.
I also liked the novel HOB a lot, is in my top 10 bl novels, i can only hope the actors give us XL and HC vibes and have chemistry.

Yes, you are on point, i realise too that all the discussions we made here is a waste of time anyway, as is unlikely that any of our guesses or wishes about the casting will come true, but that is the fun, to see if any of the guesses we are discussing here will come true.
As you said, i love the characters in Thousand autumns a lot, is my favorite novel, so i do hope they don`t miscast the actors.
Until now i have to say that all the casting done for the danmei adaptation dramas until now, was very well done, from Guardian, to Untamed, WOH, Immortality and Winner is King, to Light the darkness. I don`t like the cast of the drama Guardians of the Lands as much as the others, but that may change, especially as i read that Priest was involved a lot in the production of the drama, so the drama migh turn out great And Leo Luo and Arthur Chen were cast in Immortality as a lot of people wished, so you never know.
The reality is that danmei adaptations have started to have a much higher appeal for even actors that are well known, after all these dramas managed to make all the actors who stared on them to be much more popular.
Exemple Song Wei Long and Jin Bo Ran in A League of Nobleman, and i read that they are many people who has auditioned for the cast of HOB, so i think more and more actors will want to play in a danmei adaptation, and the competition will only get higher.

Yes, i agree, i also don`t see anything wrong in posting recommendations and discussing who actor would fit better playing which character, but you have to understand that it also should be a realistic opinion at least.
I mean, they both of them clearly aren`t both a match for SQ and YWS, as also they are really a lot of other good actors out there that can fit the characters well and take their place.
I`m just frustrated when i see people wanting and insisting that because costars that has good chemistry and managed to make the characters and the respective drama that they played in popular, have to be recommended to all upcoming danmei adaptations that don`t have the cast chosen.
It`s unrealistic, those actors had those characters in that drama adaptation that make them be noticed and get more popular, but that don`t mean that they are a good fit and the perfect choice to play any characters that resemble the characters with who they get popular.
No any actor, no matter how popular, are be a good match and do justice to any character writed out there. Sometimes, a less experienced actor or an actor who fit the characters appearance and vibe, can do a better job bringing to life a character, than an actor than is more skilled at acting and has more experience.
It matter as well if the two actors casted have a chemistry and connection similar with the characters from the novel who the drama is based or with what the scriptwriter imagines the characters to be played, if the story is original.
Also the probability that Zhang Zhe Han and Gong Jun will play in this drama is low. Did Xiao Zhan and Yibo played in any one drama together after Untamed, also, how high are the chances that the costars from Immmortality and Winner is King will ever get to play together in another drama?
In general in chinese industry, is very rare for some popular actors that had some insane chemistry to have the chance to play again in a drama as costars again. These that has, is because they are from the same agency, and make dramas especially for the actors that are signed to them to play in, and use them in several dramas.
And almost always, those actors that are reunited in these dramas, they and these dramas never achieve the same succes that the first drama that made them popular, because they were a perfect fit for the characters in that first drama, but the other dramas won`t have the same conditions that made them as popular in the first place.
I`m not against Zhang Zhe Han playing again YWS, he is not the best option in my opinion, but maybe he will have a good dynamic.chemistry with the actor that is cast as SQ. Gong Jun in the other case, is really not a good fit for SQ, he is no similar with Shen Qiao at all.
I also love SQ and YWS a lot, and i want the characters to be portrayed by actors that give me a vibe similar with the characters in the novel, and not be portrayed by actors who are used by their agencies or the production company of the the drama, as a stepping stone for them to play again together.

Also, if you don`t know, the novel Thousand autumns has more chapters translated than the ones in Novelupdates, the links can be find here in the discussion section named Thousand Autumns English Novel. The new translator updates fast, the novel has the chapters translated until chapter 100. I think the novel will be completely translated until the end of the month.

It`s because of the way you wroted the comment, like it has to be Gong Jun and Zhang Zhe Han and you will not think of everyone else as playing SQ and YWS, that i feel the need to point the fact of how unrealistic opinion is this.
After reading some comments made here and in Heaven Official`s Blessing page, similar with the one you made, knowing the chances for this to happen is very low, made me think that you`re one of those people who aren`t able to move on from WOH and are not thinking as realistic as they should. Not a bad thing really, you will realise this at some point probably, but it can be frustrating for people to read those kind of opinions, when they are seriously thinking and discussing other casting choices.

Yes, now that i think more deeply, height might not be that important when one of the characters is not described as very powerful, realiable, and as not having a lot of height difference, as in WOH or Untamed, or when both actors are young.
But in dramas adapted from novels like HOB and TA, it`ll be funny and a bit awkward if the characters have a similar or opposite height. Especiallly after seeing YWS and Hua Cheng so tall in their respective donghuas. I hope the production team take how they are presented in the novels and donghuas in consideration when they do the casting.
But if one actor is a perfect, perfect fit for the character except the height, i do think he should be cast, as they can have a way to make him more tall or less short, hahaha.

He did a excelent vibe in Ultimate Note, but his appearance is a bit too young for YWS, a bummer, but he has a shot if the production team wants to go for a younger cast.
