Before this turn into a verbal bloodbath can I please point out that rape is NOT kink. Getting spanked, is a kink.…
Oh yeah, I’ve been reading yaoi for over 10 years now so I’m unfortunately very aware of how often this rape culture is utilized in many East Asian countries as a tool for establishing romantic relationships (elsewhere around the world as well) :( I saw that article too and think it’s interesting to read and helps explain that recurring theme. There does seem to a small—*small*—shift away from that, where rape is treated appropriately, but it’s definitely slow coming and appears to be the minority.

Also your English was perfect! :)
On Love Sick: The Movie Mar 23, 2020
Is this going to be a remake of season 1 and/or season 2? Seems a little soon to be doing that, no? Granted, it’s been done for other lakorns (My Bromance comes to mind) but as one of Thailand’s BL forefathers, Love Sick has that classic, nostalgic feel that makes me think you should wait at least 20 years before re-doing it lol

There are bls before this that have done this before though
Yeah, but that’s because BL is not the same as gay (or LGBT) romance. BLs are stories largely written by straight women for straight women. As such, they fantasize and fetishize gay men and include numerous tropes (which is often why you see evil girlfriends, gay-for-you, husband-wifey (which gahh I’m with you I can’t stand!), etc., and don’t even get me started on the rape culture that’s prominent in BL, which is a whole other topic entirely.) There’s a reason that they often seem similar and repeat the same themes over and over again. Some Thai BLs are good about stepping away from this these constructs and serve as positive guidance, inspiration, and visibility, but if you want realistic representation might I suggest Gay Ok Bangkok, Diary of Tootsies (which is based on real-life events), and What Did You Eat Yesterday (Jdorama), to name a few. I do agree about this helping set the standard going forward. :)

Well based on Tossara in terms of acting and ability to portray dark themes, my hopes are low lol

Thank you for clarifying and differentiating CNC from rape (and for putting a name on what was described). Not my kink, but interesting to read about and with how often rape is romanticized in BLs and elsewhere, it’s good to see you defining what these authors/screenwriters should perhaps be using in their works rather than actual rape, which is so violent and heinous and one of the worst invasions of someone’s person and well-being and not romantic at all.

I’ve read before that GMM doesn’t really reuse their BL lead actors for other BL series (not including sequels—different…
Agree! A lot of BL actors will say they’ll only ever do another BL with the same partner, I guess because they’re most comfortable with that person and not comfortable with a gay role. I do know that Krist has said he doesn’t want to do anymore BL, so that’s probably why we aren’t seeing him in any. But Singto seems to be more open minded about those roles in general.

I do wish they’d break the pairings up as well (at least after the show’s promotion) bc all I think about is the disaster from Friend Zone where people were haaaaaating the character Sam who cheated on Singto’s character and shipping Singto’s character with the one who seduced Sam even though he was in the wrong too. I saw a lot of SingtoKrist shippers in comments here and on social media and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was anyone other than Singto playing the character, would the backlash have been as bad (that is, maybe people were even angrier because it was “Singto” that got hurt). I don’t know, I’m sure it’s much more complex, and I digress, but I do think it kind of goes to what you were saying about switching up the pairings and separating the actors from their roles.

I’m honestly not sure! Lazy Subber said it before when they talked about OffGun being cast in TOL and how it was kind of a big deal for that reason. If I had to guess, I’d say (1) probably marketing strategy like you said. People love shipping their OTP and maybe it’s hard to pair them with another male lead out of fear of upsetting the fans and if they pair them with a female lead, they can still market the BL fantasy; and (2) LS also said that a lot of Thai actors do BL because it has the potential to make them famous and gain a lot of fans to jumpstart their career, but they don’t want to do it long term, so maybe GMM recognizes this and employs a similar tactic since it works to their advantage too. GMM feels like it’s a well-oiled machine in the entertainment department, definitely knows what it’s doing. That said, the fact that they are starting to put some actors in multiple BL roles suggests maybe they’re changing their stance on that? Time will only tell on that one.

wait are some people really that bothered by the "kiss" that was blocked? I mean, I thought it was great...Sarawat…
Yes I’m so excited and happy for how popular this series is! So many good qualities that it’s sad to hear it’s being reduced down to a kiss for some. Guess that explains the recent interviews and videos where the actors seem to be playing up the fan service (and explanation like in Win’s snippet above) as if they feel they have to compensate for that kiss scene.

Yeah I thought the kiss fit the scene and the mood perfectly! Lazy Subber said the director said there will be a better view/kiss in the next episode so maybe that’ll help appease the ones who were disappointed.

I’ve read before that GMM doesn’t really reuse their BL lead actors for other BL series (not including sequels—different shows entirely) (Off and Gun being the exception, and actually Singto too) so if he’s signed with them he’ll probably be put in different roles whether we like it or not haha. He is a really good actor though so I can definitely see him going far!

Sorry but they can express their feelings, but what they cannot do is leave the other ship (FighTor) in bad terms…
Ohh are the comments coming from outside of MDL then? Like social media sites? I remember being surprised at the Perth/Saint drama from LBC and that most (if not all) of it developed elsewhere, so maybe that’s what I’m missing? I don’t follow much “real world” stuff beyond what Lazy Subber posts lol so I’m assuming it’s stuff people have said on here. Certainly it’s never okay to belittle the actors for superficial things, but the worst I’ve seen here have been that the scenes were boring or fluff, which I think is valid critique rather than attacks on the actors themselves. I’m just genuinely confused about how complaining that SaiZon are getting less screen time is seemingly being equated with FTTT hate. Also agree—Saint and Zee are wonderful; there’s no denying they have amazing chemistry. A good, sexy counter to the cuteness that is Jimmy and Tommy ;)

Being sincere and realistic, I disagree with most opinions. And I still have a hard time understanding why 'sex'…
I think most people are just lamenting the fact that the editing and screen time is disproportionate, so it hinders continuity of the story. Sure, some people have said they prefer sweeter, less explicit stuff, and while people will naturally prefer one couple over the other, I think that if the director and showrunners had given both story lines roughly equal screen time in each episode (since both are supposed to be the main couples), then it wouldn’t even be as big of a deal. In other words, it’s the format, not the characters or their storylines, that’s getting critiqued (for some people anyway, myself included).

Why can’t people complain about FTTT getting a lot of screen time? How does that hurt anybody? That’s part of their opinions and feelings. Is talking about distribution of screen time only permissible when you’re raving about it?

And I haven’t seen people talk negatively about Saint and Zee the actors, unless I’ve missed something (which is possible given the number of comments) in which case I’m happy to look and modify my statement accordingly. Nobody is dissing the actors or their hard work. All of these complaints /are/ going to the production and editing.
