I've only watched up to episode 5, but I don't know if it's just me, the comedy is there, the romance will be…
It's mostly trying to be slice of life. I think I can relate to some degree to your opinion of the show, because while Seung-ho's ex wasn't annoying she was mostly likely used as a convenient plot device for 4 episodes (little screentime tho)
I think people love its breezy feel and that there are actually no major plots. I like the drama's vibes and conversations with some characters, despite feeling the writing is not polished. But I know there are better written slice of life or healing dramas here.
By the way, it has realest conversations / breaking down / argument between Asian parents and children so that's something the show is doing good than others.
I was actually surprised how good of a person he ended up being. I was expecting something bad. On the other hand…
I think I get that people do not want to see more of him, but I think this backstory was still necesarry to show Seok-ryu's point of view. I just think that this should have already been discussed on prior episodes. Because, I think we haven't spend actually that much on Seok-ryu's main story and growth (despite episode 5 where she found her dream still not enough for me), so I think there's not that much enough time to transition to romance if we're truly trying to be realistic here because of Seok-ryu's POV.
I liked Seok-ryu and her ex's backstory. Her ex is not a bad person, he's just a human and probably too exhausted also. While he said harsh words to Seok-ryu, remember that he's also a human, who's had moment of weaknesses and does mistake from time to time. He can be exhausted too, and that's normal. Of course, those real life couples who weathered all problems together are amazing, but some situations stop you from doing so. In this case, Seok-ryu already realized that she needs to realign herself everything and she needs to do that on her own. She needs think on her own, and figure things out on her own. Things are getting way overwhelming for her, her CPU heated so she needs this to step back and kill the switch (her relationship and the job).
I wished the writer had shown more of this from the earlier episodes...but anyway.
Judging from the conflicts now, Seok-ryu should just truly focus on realigning her life first, before any romance comes. I'm sure if Seung-hyo truly loves Seok-ryu, he would allow her to take her first steps in this new life just being by her side until she's ready to accept him as a lover.
I wished her mother didn't learn about her condition by overhearing it again...though, it's nice her mother hugged her. But...it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth that in the preview her mother was going recklessly through her stuff again...Also not nice from Seung-ho to say she's hurted her fam. (Way to go to pump her depression).
This should be a criminal offense under ICJ court to give this drama a rating of 8.4.People are just insane, this…
HARD AGREE. I think it's because some of the watchers here are not from Asian culture, hence they couldn't relate. It may also because some watchers were probably younger. This is hands down a masterpiece.
I enjoy the show and I really liked the premise of perfect daughter coming back home because she's having a crisis and breaking down. I really liked it. However, I felt that the writing was sometimes force and a little bit preachy instead of having natural dialogues? (Example: Ep 6 with Seok-ryu's mother and father reconcilation).
As much as I also liked that she found cooking to be something she really likes, I'd agree that the show is rather slow for a romcom and sometimes the pacing is uneven. I didn't mimd tho because I still enjoy the drama and I come to love the chemistry between the leads. I think it was ep 3 ending that I finally liked the show and love the leads chemistry. Their past scenes and child scenes were also adorable, but somehow, I'd agree that their adult selves didn't feel too real. The way the exes also kept appearing just didn't feel natural..like I don't know.
The romance confession was nice tho between the leads. I also think I'm becoming much invested between the second leads story they're adorable.
For the new sickness plot, I wish they didn't go to this. I'd agree with others that there are better plots than this, but also I liked that the story seems to be having plot now (??). I liked that in the preview we're finally shown that Seung-ho feels distant from her and that there are things he doesn't know about her, because show never discussed that really? Though, I'd hope that happened earlier without the sickness plot. I also hoped they'd choose a different sickness because sigh that's pretty overuse.
I also agree that it's somehow a lazy writing so the parents will be guilt-tripped instead of realizing their wrongs; but I truly hope the show will handle this better.

Anyway, my lovers from the star has serial killer plot as well I think?

The romance is slow burn and drama vibes is vibrant but leaning towards slice of life and family themes.
