Is this actually being adapted into live action? I saw many that many BL titles are getting a MDL page although there is absolutely no news about production...Donghua is very well executed tho!

It is a low budget drama afterall and this is a wuxia historical ming dynasty drama.. Not some fantasy or xianxia…
I get low budget! I actually like the Ming dynasty and their clothes style and how tumultuous times were then because with this details, very good dramas can come out, such as Sleuth of Ming Dynasty. I even have 2 or 3 upcoming dramas from that period for which I am waiting to air because I like how the plot of that era can mingle in dramas (The New Dragon Gate Inn is one of them) ....But the actors and plot line for this one are just a no-no for me. The male lead especially has the same facial expression in all episodes I have watched and that also makes the action moves look weird for me. Overall, it just isn't for me; after all, so many people, so many tastes in dramas

:O:O:O Liang Wan, Zhang Rishan's love interest from Tomb of the sand, is actually in this, even if for a lil while!

Episode 1 was boring, uninteresting and forgetful. I don’t get why people are jumping 10 feet in the air either.…
If you haven't watched many Chinese drama, you will not understand the high jumping or sword flying like some do in other dramas. Because it's a wuxia genre where they combine martial arts with fantasy, kinda. Also, this is a drama with plot, so it's obvious they will only show some basic introductions in the first few episodes, especially considering the length of it, and not be so straightforward and give all interesting details or even villains, unlike how korean dramas tend to do.

This is one of those dramas that is loved by everyone and hated by me. I need to learn to stop believing ranks as much and go in watching blind with no expectations. Don't know why but the actors just ...felt stiff in their acting and the CGI looks pretty bad that it's hard to get into it...

You can start with Time Raiders (movie). Not very well done but it presents the main idea of why everyone is tomb…
I do think so! Because in this big universe that the writer created, all details come back in one way or another! :))) Makes me wanna rewatch some of the old series to see details there as well.

He isn't in Mystic Nine. But Mystic Nine is based on FoYe who is from the Zhang clan which for some people can tie some knots regarding where and what the tattoo on Zhang Qiling means. If I am not mistaken even FoYe himself said at some point that the tattoo is a curse (which..can make one wonder about the immortality as well). Kinda sad that the writer didn't evolve the mystery of the Zhang family...I understand that he only mentioned that Qiling is older than FoYe

Hello which drama should i watch first before watching this?
You can start with Time Raiders (movie). Not very well done but it presents the main idea of why everyone is tomb searching. Not mandatory and necessary to watch though. You can however go straight and watch The Lost tomb 1 and The Lost tomb 2 (which ends in a cliffhanger that will be continued in this drama that has yet to air: https://kisskh.at/64387-heavenly-palace-on-the-clouds ). If you want the absolute background to the whole universe of the series, then start with Mystic Nine which can give you an idea about who Zhang Qiling is, kinda. Ultimate Note is actually a sequel of the Heavenly Palace which has yet to air. Aaannd, if you still hooked haha, you can then watch the sequels: Tomb of the sea and the Reunion drama which is split into 2 seasons

can anyone tell me if I need to watch the lost tomb 1 and 2 to understand this show?
Personally, I would say yes because you will not understand very well the relationship and the bond of the characters and also not understand why they are going to the tombs. The only thing that can bother you, if you watch the other series, is the ever changing main cast and the fact that between TLT2 and Ultimate Note, there is another drama that hasn't aired yet named Heavenly Palace. MDL page here: https://kisskh.at/64387-heavenly-palace-on-the-clouds Because TLT2 ended with a cliffhanger:D

The story is not bad, captivating enough, but the quality of action scenes and animations is very poor and distracting,…
CGI truly IS bad. I myself, as a fan on this series, agree. Unfortunately Chinese CGI in live action dramas tend to be...not very quality like and seem tacky if not used to it. BL adapted dramas are not very rich in budget unfortunately, although it might change soon enough. As for shorter...well..reason why it's not shorter is because every detail matters for the grand plot from the end. Even if it's something plain like a lotus soup bowl, those details matter a lot when the plot thickens up when the present timeline is present(episode 33+). I do believe tho, that this drama isn't for everyone. Some watched it exclusively for the BL content while other(like myself) watched it because of the final plot which is very lifelike regarding decision making.

just my 2 cents and need to lament about this season: for someone who is articulate in feng shui and geography,…
That is quite true for me also. From what I read from others, this drama is more novel compliant, whereas TLT2 wasn't really following the novel and added many extra elements and characterizations. Neo's Wu Xie and Luhan's from the movies and also the one from Sea Sand, are more smart (they have that leader aura not follower aura), whereas this one relies more on his friends.

Although I also paid for the subscription hehe, wanted to binge fast and high quality video! I did now a quick search online and you can find the engsub episodes on dramacool. Just beware of the ads as I see they have more and more ever since I've checked their website last. Also video quality seems a bit low. Hope it helps!

That's a shame... I admit to have watched way more korean dramas than chinese ones but in the last 3 years, in my opinion, Kdramas have gone down by alot! Same plot, same type of romances, short for me (as in 16 episodes is not enough for my type of consumer) and new actors that are being put into roles that don't fit or given time to progress. Korea has many webnovels and webtones as well, but they only adapt the cheesy romance ones which again, it's a shame. I am glad that lately China provides subtitles for international viewers while Korea still needs fan translators to do their work for free. Considering that China has so many censor rules (ghosts, BL, historical and costume limited dramas) they sure do a better work than S Korea does at the moment when they have no censorship rules

I'm surprised to see that Song Jiyang left so much of an impression on so many people from Untamed to want him…
For me, what made me saw him as Xie Lian was this video of him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJbeRZ98fTQ The grace of his movements reminded me of Xie Lian and his dance which pleased the Gods. Andddd not long after I saw this video with the actor of JGY where he is holding the umbrella which again made me visualize someone as XL:))) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR7vsKwBURM The actors for this will sure be hard to cast!

Is MDL's wish to become only a website for Korean dramas? Because dropping The Untamed rating AND Nirvana in Fire??? I mean, ok! I can understand that there has been a few people that maybe made an account just to give 10 starts rating to The Untamed because the popularity of it was and still is huge, but Nirvana in Fire didn't had that huge fandom...even comment over there were not as many...IF MDL deletes 10 start ratings from ghost accounts, why they don't remove also troll accounts that only give 1 star rating to Chinese and Japanese dramas? Because I see many trolls like that that drop 60 episodes drama from 1 episode with rating 1...Not fair system you've gotten yourself, MDL...Not fair
