I've also been progressing through the Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong, if anyone is interested in learning more from this period through first-hand accounts. It's fascinating. There's barely any mention of Seong Deok Im, though, but it's great for fleshing out San's trauma and understanding his behaviors through his mother's lens. I love how she calls Deok Ro the most evil of men - and how she describes what he did in relation to his sister and the court ladies, it took me right back into the drama. Such a great read.

I'm on my second rewatch - because what the heck is getting over this drama, it's not possible - and I roped my hubby into it. He loves his sageuks and his favorite is the Fairy Palace subplot...??? 😂 I think when we get to ep 13 he's going to check out. Btw super excited about the nominations, here's hoping for an upset, Kang Ha Neul-style 🤞 the competition is *intense*

She reminds me of how Gong Yoo played an 18 yr old in Big. They're both amazing actors, but the over-the-top-ness of the performances is a bit much. Guess she needs to, to differentiate 18 from 21 and make the growth believable 🤷‍♀️ I got no excuse for Gong Yoo heh.

Definitely. I'm most excited about the commentary track, tho it's the least likely to get subbed. There are so many fans that have translated so much, I'm hopeful 🤞 The fact that the director is re-editing the whole drama is so exciting too.

Not like Mr Sunshine, where that one ends in an apotheosis of crushing defeat for the current generation and hope for victory tomorrow in the youth that remains behind. This one ends with death and redemption, but in a very different, intimate way. Mr Sunshine spaces it out over a few episodes, too, this one overwhelms you all at once. Be forewarned. It's glorious, but it's heavy.
