They really are. This is angst I can get behind. No noble idiocy and random abandonment scenes that make no sense. It makes sense, it matches the times and the positions. This script (and the acting, yes!!) is really something else, no sugar coating.

I think we can all acknowledge our school systems do an abysmal job at teaching history, even our own, forget other cultures'. If you're curious, and patient, there are ways to come up to speed, but it's all good, this is entertainment and we choose to consume it if it makes us happy, that's all 😊

I watched this mini series in elementary school in the 80s, the Patrick Swayze one, right? All I know is I was in love with Orry, I had no clue what else I was watching and it didn't matter 🤣

I'm with you on Korean history, we all started that way. If you're genuinely curious, you can look up info and learn as you watch. You'd be surprised. My husband has been watching Empress Ki and other sageuks and he's a history buff that knew nothing of Asian history, and now he's loving it.

Agreed, it takes watching one with enough action and great acting to get you hooked, before you know it you start researching as if your degree depends on it lol 😂

Re: politics in sageuks, when you graduate to full on dramatic sageuks, it'll take many episodes to even figure out who is who, forget what roles they play. They are all dressed the same and look like copy/paste characters. I've had to watch multiple dramas like this with the MDL character list open as a cheat sheet (a la 100 Years of Solitude's family tree) to remind me of who's who.

Taejong Yi Bang Won is starting these days, I'm hoping to check it out, I love a good political sageuk, especially from that era.

Red Sleeve is veeeeery trimmed down, there are no wasted or seemingly redundant characters vs other dramas. This is nice!
