Not all ALP fans feel that way to be honest. I am a big fan to ALP too, but tbh, I didn't mind they changed the…
I love ALP too and I will always love ALP as one of my favourite.

I do believe Tianqi loves Yuemi on his end as someone special to him because he couldn't take the fact that Yuemi died or her leaving him to the point that he will gathered it together and turned it into the stone sculpture of herself.

It is just that side to him where he loved Shang Gu and indirectly(although not intentionally) hurting Yuemi that I didn't like on my end.

If it was before Yuemi died then okay I'll let that slide that he hasn't come to terms with his own feelings yet. But even after Yuemi died and he knows how important Yuemi is to him, yet he can still chase after Houchi to compete with Qing Mu to win her heart is what I didn't like and is a negative for me on his character.

I rather he come to terms with his own feelings the moment Yuemi died in his arms. Come to terms meaning he realized that he had always love Yuemi romantically on his end(and not let it be at the very end of ALP). I don't see him come to terms when Yuemi died because he can still chase after Houchi after Yuemi died(thats what I didn't like). I honestly dont doubt that Shang Gu is special to him but I like to take that how Tian Qi feel for Shang Gu is more familial love, since he did watched and raised her up when she was a baby. Both him and Yuemi did since they were the two people that Shang Gu saw when she opened her eyes. So for me, I want to take Tian Qi's feelings for Shang Gu in that sense of being a family type of love and not romance, and because he didn't look deep into his heart he confused his own feelings and when he realized his own love for Yuemi being too late.

Anyways the point of my comment was to say that I am a big ALP fan too but I didn't mind the change in MM because to me, personally, this change was done better for Jing Yuan since I love how he only ever loved the right woman(Xing Yue) and it has always been her. That change was a positive change that I love in MM.

At the end it is all a matter of preference and I won't go into this anymore since I've said it all from my previous reply why I love and felt the change was done better for me in MM in terms of their backstory.

Not all ALP fans feel that way to be honest. I am a big fan to ALP too, but tbh, I didn't mind they changed the…
Its just a matter of preference here. For me, like I said, and I'll just add to my previous reply, I came into MM because I am a big fan to the ALP universe and the world setting especially the God Realm portrayed in ALP, and I also love Tian Qi and Yue Mi backstory but I am someone who is opened to changes if those changes are done better in the overall.

If I am going to be honest here, I personally didn't find it appealing how Tian Qi loves Shang Gu in that sense and hurted Yue Mi in the process in ALP. That part I WANT to believe that his feelings for Shang Gu was more familial since he and Yuemi both raised her since she was born. But I would prefer he realized his own feelings for Yuemi the moment she died in his arms back then. I personally find it less appealing that Tianqi can still chase after Houchi after she comes back for a period of time in that sense. Again for me, I want to block out that part that I didn't like to see in ALP about his character.

Tianqi didn't realise his own feelings for Yuemi until the very very end of ALP, when he found out that she hid all these wine for him and in the end he felt regret that he realized his feelings too late.

With ALP, I did cried in the scene when Yuemi died because she died protecting Tianqi on her end and I ship and love the pairing because of Yuemi's strong love for Tian Qi. I love Yuemi that despite she knew it was unrequited on her side and knows how Tianqi feels about Shang Gu, she still cares and loves Shang Gu like her closest friend. Her death scene always touched me because even in her dying moments, she confessed her love to Tianqi and she is content knowing she was able to tell him her true feelings deep down. Tianqi knew about her love for him but he couldn't return them because of his feelings for Shang Gu. This was why he always use the most indirect ways to reject Yuemi when he pretends he didn't know about her feelings, and when he does that, it always hurted Yuemi in the process. So saying all this, Tianqi does have his negatives for me in terms of his portrayal in this relationship. I mean I can overlook the early part where he didn't realize his own feelings at the time, but a part of me still didn't like that he can still chase after Hou Chi because he knows that she's Shang Gu (chase after her like in a romantic sense, competing with Qing Mu to win her heart), this was even after Yuemi died in his arms. I wanted him to realize his own feelings when Yuemi died but when he showed me that he can still chase after Houchi like that, I personally want to block out, because that is a negative for me.

This is why for me in MM Jing Yuan and Xing Yue, I accepted the change for the better as the overall version because, sure it was changed, but the change was done better on Jing Yuan side because when he loved/fall in love, he fell in love with someone that is worth his confession, the right one. I love that change because like I said, I personally don't find it appealing to have their backstory reveal again in MM showing him loving someone else in the past and hurting Yuemi in the process. From viewers who was not exposed with their backstory, it is better with this change. I mean if all of us hated and find the Bodhi village less appealing because of Luan Zhu, I am sure most of us wouldn't want to see a backstory played out in MM where Jingyuan loves another woman in the past in his backstory which ties into the canon backstory for Tianqi and Yuemi in ALP.

As for what you said about "xianxia should have a lot of anguish, separations, misunderstandings and difficult experiences to make the couple grow and test them" <-- I disagree with this statement. No that's not true, it is because we have ALOT of these tropes in the past, we dont need to keep seeing that in the story over and over again. If we want those tropes, we can go back and watch those xianxia. But a good story involves looking at breaking through the overused trope. If writers keep making that trope that you said, it will make the story redundant and boring and overly done. I am personally tired of these tropes, I wanted a healthy xianxia where we see two pairings communicate and avoid the unnecessary misunderstanding and them working together. I love that it is done differently in MM because it shows a good story can be told if the writers try something new, and their story can still be written in a touching, angsty way that touched our hearts when that time comes. It didn't make me not cry for them, because I did. If you want misunderstanding then their backstory already have that in MM, Xing Yue went through that trouble to have Jing Yuan misunderstand her to protect him. She and him was both hurt in the process. Their love was short, but it was done in the way I love because I love this change where Jing Yuan, where he still kept to his original character as Tianqi when it comes to the woman he loves, but only this time, he loves the right woman that can return his love. I always love that side to Tianqi where he can go all out to protect the one woman he loves where he showed me he will choose to protect that woman he loves first over the three realms, that part stayed true to his character in MM but only in MM it was done correctly since he showed me he is willing to do this for the right woman(Xing Yue/Bai Shuo)

For me, I honestly went into watching MM, because I was a big ALP fan on my end, and because I want to see a spinoff story for Tian Qi and Yuemi(a pairing I ship and want a happy ending for), but I just watched it with an open mind as I was watching MM and in the end, I went from someone who said I prefer they kept the original casting for Tian Qi and Yuemi in ALP to someone who now appreciate the cast Ao Rui Peng and Bai Lu in playing their characters in MM and while I was questioning about the cast for Ao Rui Peng playing Tian Qi before all this, he had really won me over with his acting in MM that I appreciate him in bringing out the characters to life, since he had convinced me he was made for this role because he can play those emotional scenes exceptionally well, and he can bring out three different characters: Mumu, Fan Yue and Jing Yuan as if they are their own individual characters when it was all played by Ao Rui Peng himself.

So in the end, it is a matter of preference. I enjoyed MM immensely because this drama showed me that you dont need a toxic relationship filled with misunderstanding with a lack of communication that leads to separations to tell a good story, I appreciate that MM brought back that hope I once lost in xianxia that you can do it with a pairing that goes through obstacles together. A test of true love doesn't need to go through that unnecessary misunderstanding and separation. A test of true love can be tested by how other's try to create that misunderstanding but the love you hold for that person is strong and unwavering because you believed in that person, is a test of true love done in a healthy way. Just like how Luan Zhu used her method to create unnecessary misunderstanding etc, but Bai Shuo said she didn't need to "explain" anything because she trusts in Fan Yue(to not cheat on her) is one of the thing I will always appreciate because she trust Fan Yue over Luan Zhu. These two have this communication where they will try to communicate to avoid any misunderstanding that I love.

In the end, I am not saying this to diss the original Tian Qi and Yuemi story because I know this was the origin to their story and I still love them too, but for me in MM, I honestly just took this as a spinoff, standalone story in an alternate universe, and what will happen if Tianqi fell in love with the right woman. Like I said, I am always open to changes if they are done for the better and in my eyes, MM did changed the things I find less appealing so this is why I can accept what's changed and offered in MM and it made me love the character Jing Yuan/Fan Yue in MM verse even more because of this

Title Moonlight Mystique Spoiler
In 'Ancient Love Poetry', Bai Jue dedicates 60,000 years exhausting his Power of Original Being to delay the tribulation…
You're telling me something I already know in ALP. I only referenced ALP because people should not relate MM FY and BS the same as QM and HC because its different. QM and HC is NOT taking the form of reincarnation but FY and BS in MM did. That's the comparison I was trying to make and explain on my end.

Since in the end QM and HC became one with BJ and SG. So HC is NOT considered Shang Gu's reincarnation but more like her vessel for when that time comes for SG to awaken.

Whereas in MM it was explained clearly that FY and BS are both reincarnation to JY and XY and their past JY and XY had ended and their present life is FY and BS. I won't touch more to this since I've explained it all in my perspective in that post.

It made sense to me because i have seen it played out in another story before. So that is why I wanted to shed the light to clear that confusion there for some people and added that to my explanation.

Yeah I mean I felt like people got confused about how it was shown in the story but honestly this is how I saw it and it was pretty clear in that sense that it is reincarnation.

I feel a lot of people may have missed this, it could be regarded as a spoiler if you haven't watched it, and…
I didn't miss the 6th contemplation on my first watch.

I felt that it was this 6th contemplation that was able to destroyed the hidden heart (Mo Li) and in the end save Fan Yue(and the other side characters who died for a great cause), because it proved Heaven way of thinking was wrong because what Xing Yue failed to accomplish(through Heaven way) back then, Bai Shuo was able to with this 6th contemplation of "great love". So I love that addition at the end that shows a contrast in parallel that proved Heaven wrong back then.

As a big fan of Ancient Love Poetry, I have to say I am disappointed because they massacred the original world…
Not all ALP fans feel that way to be honest.

I am a big fan to ALP too, but tbh, I didn't mind they changed the backstory to Tian Qi and Yuemi because this change was done better in Tian Qi part for me since I personally wouldn't want to see a backstory showing Tianqi loving someone else in the past and Yuemi being hurt by this unrequited love again in MM. At least they still kept the core to his original character the same, but this time in MM, he is loving the right woman that deserves his confession.

For me, I accept the change if it was done for the better and in MM case, it was.

In the end, I don't relate this to the ALP or TLI universe but just completely take this as a standalone drama, one of a kind where it is a healthy relationship between Fan Yue and Bai Shuo that shares and goes through everything together and will communicate and avoid any misunderstanding, I personally appreciate we have something refreshing for once and not going with the usual misunderstanding and doing everything alone trope...

As for ARP, I have never seen him in another drama before, so this was the first time I've seen him in, and I reckon he played his character well between, Mumu, Jing Yuan and Fan Yue in bringing out the difference between the three characters to life. He completely won me over in his acting for his character in MM and, I went from someone who once doubted the choice of the cast for Tianqi in MM to someone who appreciate the decision in choosing him in playing this role because after watching MM as a whole, I can't see anyone else playing Fan Yue/Jing Yuan aside from Ao Rui Peng. He is the best choice in MM for this role.

As far as the story and plot goes, it does connect from each arc to the next and in the end ties everything together, which brings a sense that it all happened for a reason that serves a purpose(so that is not random, but carefully executed). If you look at this as MM and not being connected to ALP, it will be easier to follow the flow of the story in MM.
