The irony here because I couldn't bring myself to dislike Sang Qi. I even cried when he died in TBL. BUT his character as Zhen Yu in MM really annoys me so much.
Sang Qi to me is a better character at least he did care for MXL, even in his dying moments he didn't reveal the truth about her identity to the enemy so he protected her on his end.
Zhen Yu is just pure toxic and he never ever cared for Fu Ling at all. So the two characters shows contrasting differences to how they treat their disciple that they raised on his end, in its respective story.
To me, although, they do give off different auras but, I see them as the same person. FY and JY have the same…
When I said that I was referring to some extent, FY is still the same as JY despite different aura.
E.g. When Jing Yuan return, the first words he uttered was "those who hurt her or want to hurt her, will all die".
This is similar to how Fan Yue is as well since he didn't even spare those flowers during the Bodhi Village arc, when those flowers attacked BS, she wasn't really hurt but FY went there and personally killed those flowers himself. And how he did it makes me love him for that.
That is one hint which shows Both JY and FY are still technically carrying those same traits in them.
Another thing that is the same is Jing Yuan said he wanted to travel the world with Xing Yue and take her to see the outside world back then.
Fan Yue said to BS at the end, if she wanted to stay in seclusion, he will accompany her in seclusion, if she wanted to travel the world, he would also accompany her.
So to me, I don't really see the difference in terms of personality when I look at these traits as mentioned.
When Jing Yuan is serious, he is like Fan Yue but when he's like A-Yuan then yeah he is similar to Mumu if that makes sense.
But it is like BS said that Mumu is a part of Fan Yue, the original part of him (when he's not serious or on his guard) etc.
Fan Yue life experiences and back story during the time in Baize clan shaped him to who he is in the present time, but the core to his original being/qualities as Jing Yuan when it comes to the woman he loves is the same.
Like to me, I can see the difference between Bai Shuo and Xing Yue but for Fan Yue and Jing Yuan, to me they are the same quality/traits in them if that makes sense. So I don't separate them and for me personally, I love both Fan Yue and Jing Yuan equally.
But in the end this is how I saw it. I get that Jing Yuan has a more godlike aura when compared to Fan Yue but to me when I said that I was viewing more of the core to his character, they're both the same in that sense (at least he is to me)

I saw it as a gradual process too with these subtle hints and I actually didn't think on my first watch that it was happening "too fast" because, I personally find that the way Bai Shuo always challenges Fan Yue, like how at the beginning when Fan Yue wanted Bai Shuo to submit to him on his terms etc but in the end, Bai Shuo had the upper hand in this(which was revealed through what CS said as it was not part of his original plan), it is these little things in a subtle way that shows how she is so different to him when compared to other people that even TH made a point about it early on.
So how they fall in love is gradual but it makes sense to me. It didn't come out of no where.
But I do think that a part of this also comes from who they were in their past as JY and XY where it is the whole love transcends time from their past to their present. But who they fell in love with in their present life is their current self as FY and BS.

To me I was hooked into the story from the beginning even for the side characters.
It gets angsty later.
But its up to you if you want to continue or not
For me this was a good start to 2025 with the story and xianxia theme and not the overuse plot that I've seen in previous xianxia that I am tired of
