I never really see Xing Yue and Jing Yuan as different individuals because I always saw them as "their past life".
When a person dies, it was said that a part of them will become the stars(in MM).

P.S. I am personally glad this isn't a repeat of Qing Mu and Hou Chi situation in ALP because I always felt sorry for what happened to QM and HC where they act like sacrifices to BJ and SG for when that time comes and that's just sad.
