I get why fans want some form of connection back to the original story too. Since that is where their backstory started.
But from the writing perspective, for fans who never got exposed to their backstory and watch this as a standalone, they probably dont want to see Jing Yuan(Tian Qi) loving someone else in the past and Xing Yue(Yue Mi) being hurt by this unrequited love in the process.
To me, the change has its pros and cons. The change was done better for Tian Qi for me but cant say the same for Yuemi with what was portrayed in their backstory revealed as Xing Yue and Jing Yuan in the past. But I want to believe she did that because she wanted to protect Jing Yuan from the danger on her side in the past.
I think MM compared to TLI has the least connection to ALP which is somewhat sad for fans and I get that, but in the end, I guess we can just take this like a standalone.

I rather they implement that wedding between them that we want to see, at the end of episode 40. I don't want it to be a special package if there's a choice. But whatever it is as long as we will get the JingYuan(FY) and Xing Yue(BS) that they filmed onscreen then I will take it. I need them to get that HAPPY EVER AFTER, AND PLEASE LET THIS BE A SATISFYING ONE! 🙏

Pros: Yuemi loves TianQi wholeheartedly she will never do what Xing Yue would do in the past to him.
But the change in this shows that Tian Qi loves Yuemi in the past, and in that sense I do like this better because the original story how Tianqi didn't realize his feelings for Yuemi until it is very late which leads to his regret and Yuemi love was unrequited when she have to see the man she loves, "love" another woman, and this person is her best friend, so I see the change is a good change where Tianqi love was changed in the drama as Jing Yuan
But the change (for the con) made it seem like Xing Yue didn't love Jing Yuan in the past and hurted him like we saw was sad...

Yeah I felt that it is easier to forgive if it was in the past than the present. I mean not after how we saw both FY and BS care for each other. Even BS was hurt when she saw that slight flashback, so I rather if its any pain etc this happened in the past instead.
I am sure Jing Yuan still loves Xing Yue on his end even when it was without a doubt judging by those scenes she did hurted him from all this 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔

I don't like that she hurted him like that, but I rather it is the past and not the present time. I am sure she had her reason for doing that, one that is yet to be revealed, but when she fired that arrow at him in the past.... 😭😭 guess we will find out when that time comes. I believe Jing Yuan still loves her though despite all that 🥲🥲
