I think it might be a glitch. It happens with new airing dramas. Backstreet Rookie rating fluctuated when it first…
Private Lives seem to be glitching too. If you click on the rating itself, it tells you the average of what people are rating it atm. 3 different dramas started today, this site is cracking up lol.
I think generally most people are fair towards dramas and the genuine fans shine through. Don’t let the loudest get in the way of your experiences- ain’t worth it.
I can see why the ‘misunderstanding’ can be confusing. Because it’s referencing to when Woo Yeon tells Lee Soo she likes him & he says he only sees her as a friend. So far it’s implied that this is not the case & he has feelings for WY. Obviously WY would take his words and therefore this creates a decade long misunderstanding. Lol that’s confusion to me!
If you're looking for a more serious intense sageuk watch, this is not the one for you. I recommend checking one of the longer 50 episodes sagas like Six Flying Dragons or Empress Ki.
A more recent & shorter watch at 16 episodes would be My Country: The New Age, which personally I think it's a solid introduction to the sageuk world.
If you are however looking for a saguek that is easier to follow than most, with some familiar faces and an addictive soundtrack, this is the one for you.
It's lighter than Love in the Moonlight because it doesn't delve as much to the political landscape, and I'm tempted to say Hwarang lends from historical influence more for the setting.
Overall, I'd suggest to not burden yourself with too much expectations, as that might detract from your viewing experience. Take it as it is!
What if Tae Yi seeing Jin Gyum dying in the future & wanting to change the future is what makes her ‘create’ time travel? She goes too far & accidentally births a dimension where Alice is born?
What if detective Go Hyun Seok isn’t really a bad guy & trying to make the time prophecies come true at the expense of his life? Is JG a prophesied child that will end it all but paradoxically is part of the start too?
Will we finally get that wholesome family reunion of TY, JG & MH in its rightful universe that eradicates weird romantic feelings?
If anyone has compiled clues how time travel works please do share & let’s all work it out together!
The whole ep dragged and like pretty much nothing had happened, so I do feel like either it was a different writer…
(First sorry this was so long I’m trying to make sense of it all but failing to be concise because confusion).
I agree, many dramas this year have been okay or at least done things that havent made me notice it’s been filmed under restrictions. The filler wasn’t even funny to justify it being done which makes it frustrating.
I’ve made up my own crack theory that everything we’re seeing ‘going wrong’ from the weird mother son attraction to JG getting stabbed & the detective being the supposed villain is this is a parallel world in the making. And it creates a loop that sets everything off in this series. Bare in mind this is pure gut speculation because I’m with you I have no idea how things work. This theory is my poor attempt at comforting myself at this dire ness haha
Also just realised I’ve yet to reply to your other comment about needing an explanation about time travel which I’ll put here too as it links in. I definitely think it’s two different TYs and somehow Alice’s time travel mechanism means they travel back in time AND into a different parallel dimension. Combine this with the professor lecturing on how instead of a butterfly effect, you can create two parallel timelines. Which would explain Alice being so apathetic.
Remember that boy who kept getting beat up by his older brother & he used Alice’s ‘services’ to go back. He however kills his brother & I remember thinking I’m surely the younger brother would cease to exist since he stopped his brother (quite literally) beating him up. He wouldn’t be the same jaded hurt boy growing up. This confirms the multiverse theory. And since somehow time travel = parallel dimension hopping, Alice quite questionably keeps using our universe as the place for their clients.
But it raises questions for me. Does every time you time travel creates a new timeline/ parallel world? Can you really expect there to not be butterfly effects at all? Do those time cards have set amount of uses since they keep burning every damn time they’re used? Are there time lords guarding over this book and time? Should we expect a bad doctor who crossover? Okay I joke for the last one but we shall see how the second half plays out.
My feelings exactly. Because now they are going to write around the script to justify that, instead of writing…
Honestly I get you! Give the FL some agency! She has brains so write her using her intellect, it’s okay to save herself once in a while?
In still giving a huge benefit of the doubt but my expectations have lowered significantly to save disappointment. I’m open to surprises and we still have a month left so anything can happen.
The thing is this was mentioned at the start his JG found TY to have resemblance to her mother. Personally if I was TY the way JG is acting like a mother’s boy bluntly put and randomly always hugging me cause I look like his mum- I’d run a mile lol. Red flags man haha
You should watch Train if you haven't. It's a good crime drama with parallel worlds that will help you get over…
I watched it last week and it being so fresh in my mind is perhaps impacting a bit how I’m seeing Alice. Train was successful in its world building & despite not everything being answered, the tight narrative made it passable. Alice is sliding in that it’s rules are messy.
TKEM refers to another drama called The King Eternal Monarch that aired this year that was abysmal & all over the place in its writing about parallel dimensions. Hence why my expectations were higher for Alice, especially since the premiere was done so strongly.
The whole ep dragged and like pretty much nothing had happened, so I do feel like either it was a different writer…
I’m not filler averse I think when it’s done well, it can add more depth to the characters or bring a bit of fun to the show. I mean I did chuckle at JG’s karaoke but it didn’t need to be a long stint. Generally got confused by the slice of life feels.
EP 7-8 are examples of his not to do filler & I agree nothing seemed to have happened. Or worse, they could’ve been tighter by reframing Ep8 by fleshing out the last 10 minutes. The last 10 minutes s intrigued me because it was actual plot development despite it being tacked on like a badly done epilogue.
I wonder if COVID impacted on what they could film so ended up with this weirdness?!
I wanna see more backstory for people like MH & development of how Alice came to exist. Heck who are the time bandits and how does Seouk Oh Wan know so much. What is this Book.
It’s tiresome watching all the leads’ main storylines centring on how much they’re fixating on whatever version of Tae Yi they’re dealing with.
I am 90% certain that a different writer stepped in to write this episode. You don't drop the quality of something…
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was true because they must’ve missed the initial briefing & decided romance is the way forward. That and the hammy villain reveals & inserted corny scenes mocking JG’s way of functioning.
No wonder why the inconsistencies in writing are glaring wider now
My feelings exactly. Because now they are going to write around the script to justify that, instead of writing…
I agree. The initial setup was so promising & the mythology it was building was pretty sound. So sound I was willing to let minor characterisations slide. However now that we’re at the halfway mark I can no longer justify them as minor inconsistencies. For example, they’ve overplayed the damsel in distress trope for Tae Yi. Being from a parallel dimension doesn’t mean she needs to be the exact opposite of her alternate counterpart.
The issue I’m facing is that we only have 2 Tae Yis so far. We aren’t seeing anyone’s alternates so I’m getting confused at the science part. I feel like they’ve dug themselves a hole by setting up Alice from the future AND there being two Tae Yis. In some ways it could’ve been simplified as they’re doppelgängers but that’s not proposed in the series.
They keep introducing scientific theories but not committing to them, so this series might as well be fantasy instead.
I thought this series could be what TKEM could not. One where they properly delve into the mechanics of time travel & parallel dimensions and no nonsensical romance dragging it down. I perhaps made a mistake.
I love the premise & sci fi/ thriller crime premise too much to give this up. Wishfully thinking that this series can still be salvageable. Just no more fake out villains please lol.
Same! I'm so confused about the mechanics of time travel in this one and so far we had only some scapes of information…
I’ve only just got to EP7 & it didn’t really propel the time travel plot forward. Just confirmed what we already knew- the book containing information how to stop time travel.
I think yes they’re going with the multiverse theory and correct me if I’m wrong but somehow I’ve pieces info from the elusive Alice team & Seok Oh Won that a parallel world can arise out from a time loop? So I’m waiting to see that happen to explain the two Tae Yis co existing in the same world.
My gut is saying TY holds the key to time travel as she’s got the final pages of the book & she’s written as a scientist who has the knowledge to unpack the mechanics.
I’m still not sure how or where the rogue time bandits fit in. And im not convinced with the fluffy well intended nature of Alice helping people to heal. It may have started like that but the detached nature, using client labels & them actually killing people doesn’t bode well. The system is corrupt & their superior righteous nature being from the future is grating on me.
Also I’ve minor potential plot hole/ confusion. How on earth did that drone scenario get brushed off in the week if JG’s little week excursion back to 2010? Why is it never mentioned that TY met him 10 years ago or was it really that much of an insignificant meeting she forgot? Or has a parallel world arisen from this?
I’m really fearing my own ideas might never get deeply explored on the show lol. Anyway keen to hear your thoughts!

If you’re looking for a less angsty & more offbeat watch, Zombie Detective is the one for you.
It’s refreshing how it’s not taking itself too seriously. Embrace the strange vibes- you might have fun with it!
