Review Reborn Rookie
There is an error in your review (that I liked by the way), the writer isn't the one of Reborn Rich, it's Kim Soon Ok. What makes I could consider to watch the drama. Since she entered her "crack makjang" journey (before she was writing "simple" makjangs, and quite good ones), her stories are crazy, almost a parallel universe with its own rules where realism doesn't apply, and even playing with the codes and having some self-parody aspect. What makes I loved The Penthouse, one of the rare drama entering my Top10 during last years. I liked also Escape of the Seven (particularly first episodes). As I take your review as a legitimate warning, I still think I may have lot of fun, knowing her writing style.

Ep8: again an interesting situation that the drama takes the time to develop, about the mother and son, in the madness to get good results at school at any cost. The mother actress is wonderful, and I think anybody who watched Queen Seon Duk couldn't forget her.

Ah, you made it to 5! Will you keep going?
Ah ah, probably. It's indeed a procedural. Sometimes really over the top, even trashy, but it's easy to watch, a bit funny and based about the situations. I've learn each case is from true facts (a bit changed yet). One of my favorite actress in it, but her role was written too roughly, so she screams a lot, and it's not an excellent performance like in From Now on Showtime. But what can she do? She just does the best she can, as the role is written.

At episode 5, there is something I really appreciate: for some situations before, it was too quick, not developping enough for suffering the harshness of the situation. As an example: the murder of the hero's wife, really too fast paced without we can endure the psychological situation. But at Episode 5, the terrible situation of the young primary school teacher is well exposed, with (what I find) realistic details about how someone could be manipulated then traumatised. Of course, it's costly, because at 30:00 in the episode, we are still on it. But I find it worth it. It's really the kind of rough and raw psychological situation I was hoping to see in this drama. Nothing "over the top" or even silly like many previous events of the drama, but a real human truth.

It's not really a proper procedural. By Episode 6 the cases start to intertwine more (and callback to earlier…
Thanks.
I will push at least to Ep3 then, as there is an actress I like a lot at this point.

I rate high this episode one, it's excellent, very effective screenplay. But obviously, at end of episode, story just leads to a procedural "one episode = one school". (like Flex X cop, taxi driver, or many other recent kdramas). All of them excellent on episode one (or first few episodes), but just leading to a PROCEDURAL, the kind of boring thing I prefer to avoid. As if it was made like western series with many seasons. BORING, I won't continue this one, 'coz I tried to continue Flex X cop, and it was boring fast at episode 3. It smells the exact same thing. I won't waste my time.

I deleted all my reviews, including the W one, because I think I'm not good at that.
But I would be curious to read yours.

Almost 10 years later, I'm rewatching this drama... How i wish i could turn back time and watch it for the first…
It can't be outdated, because the script is awesome! You can't go back in time for the pleasure to watch it for the first time, but you can feel the same pleasure of watching for the first time with the season 2 visual screenplay "W four worlds". Short video teaser:

Thanks for dropping that drama name "Sandglass" , The Lead actress who's recent drama i notice her fascinating…
Well, it's 8 years since I started, so I'm quite cool about the amount of work. But what I can say that is important: I didn't want to do that, as it was looking like the kind of big writing project you never finish. The first year was just to grab ideas, and I said to myself: I won't do it unless I get 3 huge and awesome ideas. Bad news: it happened. Then, it's quite cool, I was in a crazy project, but convinced by the power of ideas, in short: I had no choice but to make it until the end. This kind of crazyness. However, it was not the first story I write, but it changed everything about my way to envision writing. I never lived something so mad. But ok, now I'm cool, I know what means "open the mind door". I don't need to be deported in a psychatric hospital. LOL.

My username is just a way to say "hey, look at my profile", because I share the link to "W two worlds" season 2. A visual screenplay of 40 hours, telling what happens after the drama W. It's called "W four worlds" and it's even more crazy than season 1. I'm currently working on the pictures on the last 12 episodes, as I achieved the full rewriting. In case you liked (or even loved?) W, for sure, you will be mind-blow by this season 2. You can read on the main page of my blog (check the page below) the style of the story: I just tell what you can expect in this.

I also did few AI videos (just for trying) and got a better version of the trailer, as I could do the dialog lines better than in the photo version:

I loved her in Queen Seon Duk, it's half why I watched Sandglass. Other half is because it's the 4th biggest rating of korean TV history, and I was curious about top dramas of all time. It talks about serious historical events happening just few years before, and I could read: when Sandglass was airing, the streets were desert.

The actress is beautiful in this drama. It's also well directed, even with 4/3 format, and my reaction after watching was: why they didn't continue to make dramas with this kind of raw and powerful tonality? This drama is supposed to have invented the future format of kdramas, with a (short) 24 episodes story, but the lessons were lost. After that, it was rare to get a drama with such an intensity and a natural feeling, looking like older movies.

Even the background music are beyond this world:

I don’t know if I’ll watch it all the way through. There were a few good funny scenes, but overall it’s uneven. Plenty of scenes sound fake, the guy is often passively forced, his role is poorly written. The main actress’s personality feels more like a dowager queen than a fatal, manipulative concubine. Too many useless encounters even though the plot doesn’t advance.

Main character is Jang Ok Jung. (just renamed "Kang")So, if you watch this drama, you'll know about her:https://kisskh.at/5570-jang-ok-jungBut…
Yeah, it's a little situation we see in Queen In Hyun's man, with the actresses. The drama with Kim Tae Hee is an exception (from a wonderful novel), exploring that her situation was more related to a political context. So she's the heroine, begins as a nice lady, but turn to be ferocious later. Still more nuanced than other series and movies showing this famous historical figure as a "most beautiful femme fatale ever but highly ambitious and totally bad".

No, but I wonder if there will be a link. Sometimes, there are generation of shamans, transmitting their knowledge. So maybe the Joseon shaman is her ancestor.

In ep 1, when FL meets the modern shaman/fortune teller, the shaman actually mentioned the names of 3 older time-travel…
The confusing situation about acting is inspired by Queen In Hyun's man, sure. However this drama barely sticks to this genre as there are back and forth time travels (almost scifi genre), while the basic genre is only one travel. Also, as the fortune teller explains, there is a possession on top, refering about a drama like Mr Queen for example.

Are the Joseon's characters here all fictional? or are there any inspirations from real historical figures?
Main character is Jang Ok Jung. (just renamed "Kang")
So, if you watch this drama, you'll know about her:

But most of other movies and adaptations of this famous character shows her as a villainess.
