I actually knew /kinda guessed this drama Won't serve us swoon worthy passionate kisses like the best thing or the first frost, but that actually doesn't disappoint me or hold me back from swooning over their relationship bcz i Just love watching them do random things, walk, having intellectual talks & spending time together...scrolling through the comments, i understand the disappointment of some viewers but can't quite feel it myself😅 maybe i am just too used to getting only fish kisses for more than 70% of cdramas a year , only a few of them have intimate kissing scenes over these years, & believe me, back in the days, some of us have survived romance dramas with no kissing scenes at all 😅
Gu Man obviously lacks some medical school knowledge and have her shortcomings in background Research hahaha,…
"the issue is where/when did he do his clinical training/residency" that's exactly my context of the original comment. without clinical practice /residency, an mbbs doctor with a phD from johns Hopkins holds nothing to become an attending physician in neurosurgery
Gu Man obviously lacks some medical school knowledge and have her shortcomings in background Research hahaha,…
Age is not the big issue though, It's not quite impossible to become a neurosurgeon at the age of 26, the record of being world's youngest neurosurgeon was indeed someone who was 27 years old, the pathway is the problem here, too lazy to type now

i do not think you’ve got my context, he holds an undergraduate medical degree from SJTU (Mbbs for china which is 5+1 = 6 years in duration). Mbbs doctors are not specialist of any Branch, they are considered as general practitioners. For him to become a neurosurgeon in china, he must have a post graduate degree in Neurosurgery (6-8 years of residency, with rotation in general surgery for 3 years then Neurosurgery for 3 to 5 years)
Johns Hopkins University does not offer a standalone PhD program in clinical neurosurgery for international MBBS doctors.you can have a phD in 'Neuroscience' Which involves research and no clinical exposure, certainly nothing to do with performing surgeries,& it requires 3 years and It's called research doctorate
Johns Hopkins does have a MD-phD programme (of 8-9 years duration), which combines a MD and phd degree where undergraduate/mbbs/equivalent doctors do residency in hospitals in their expected subjects of specialty, eg. Neurosurgery. for international mbbs doctors It's highly competitive & exams after exams for years, You will need the USMLE step 1 with a top score, the USMLE Step 2 clinical knowledge with a top score, pass the USMLE step 2 clinical skills, clinical experience in the U.S. (sub-internships), strong letters of recommendation, research, and successful Match through the NRMP into a neurosurgery residency.
Hopkins MD phD neurosurgery residency takes 5 students a year. It is 7 years with two research years. In most years they took zero international graduates and in no year have they taken more than 1,even if LYS has done the impossible, thinking that he was at least 15 when he completed high school, it will be 15+6+at least 10 years for him to complete this whole thing. He will be at least 31(& in this postgraduate degree, there is certainly no way you can skip years and graduate early like skipping grades in High school), yet he was just there performing a neurosurgery as a main surgeon at the age of 26
and if he had just gone for the research phD,he would simply still be an undergraduate doctor with no clinical exposure or certainly not a neurosurgeon!

That wood conversation in ep 26 is so unhinged or maybe I'm finding it difficult to understand, wdym you were…
林 (Lín) means - A small collection of trees /A small wood/ a bunch of bushes 屿 (Yǔ) means small island. 森 (Sēn) means - A large wood/a small forest
NXG jokingly asks LYS if he was "五行缺木 "(Wǔxíng quē mù)? in his birth chart
There's a five elements theory in Chinese traditional philosophy, Fortune tellers calculate a person's elemental balance based on their exact date and time of birth, a practice known as Sheng Chen Ba Zi (生辰八字). the universe and a person's destiny are believed to be governed by five elements: 金 (Jīn) - Metal, 木 (Mù) - Wood, 水 (Shuǐ) - Water, 火 (Huǒ) - Fire, 土 (Tǔ) - Earth/Soil...If the calculations show that the element Wood (木) is lacking or weak in a person's birth chart, the individual is considered to be "五行缺木 (Wǔxíng quē mù)
To "remedy" this perceived imbalance and attract good fortune, A very common practice is to choose a name, or add a character to their existing name, that contains the 木 (mù) radical or has a meaning related to wood or trees. For example, names like "Mumu" (木木) or using characters such as "林" (lín - forest) or "森" (sēn - dense forest) are popular choices.
Just a historical correction that took place in ep 25 at 31:10. The timeline of the story in this scene was 2013…
YOU ARE WRONG. the facts stated in the drama are absolutely correct. In 2012, China faced significant U.S. Anti-Dumping (AD) and Countervailing Duty (CVD) actions, most notably on solar cells/panels, where the U.S. announced affirmative final determinations for dumping and subsidization, leading to duties on Chinese imports to create a level playing field. Concurrently, China imposed its own AD/CVD on U.S. cars/SUVs, leading to a WTO challenge by the U.S. for unfair practices, while also engaging in disputes over duties on steel products (GOES) with the U.S., highlighting global trade tensions in 2012.
Why is this drama called an idol drama? Asking because I don't know how the categories are divided
Idol drama is not a genre, it is about how the content is being delivered as a show. Chinese idol dramas were inspired by the Taiwanese idol dramas that were incredibly popular among young people in the early 2000s. The most important aspect of Chinese idol dramas is their audience. Their target market is teenagers and young adults, so many idol dramas focus on romance, featuring handsome and beautiful young actors in eye-catching costumes and beautiful scenery, the quality is not the priority. These days almost all of xianxia is basically idol dramas too.
did it get any better from ep 18? i stopped After 17 & hesitating to drop
i watched ep 18 yesterday, that was the final point of my endurance! i dropped it too after that, SAME "can't take it anymore" ...the writing is a cringe mess, sometimes the story isn’t well written but characters are,so i can finish the drama bcz characters are likable, but if the Writer kinda mess up both, It's hard to continue
It's so wonderfully shot and thinking that in the earlier episodes it was either him following her staying steps behind while walking representing him chasing her, now that scene just Shouts out "for this once,Let me chase you lin yusen"!!
