I interpreted them both meaning the opposite of what they both said. When the grandfather asked "should we help him [Zhao]" and JQ said yes - I guessed that they really meant breaking off from the Zhao family. Even if they did not know about the adultery, they would have known about the loans or at least had an inkling of other unscrupulous things they did. We should also remember that the only reason they married JQ to a Zhao was because they barely escaped being eliminated by the king. They probably thought being with a family that the King had good relations with would ensure their safety. But since 6 years have passed, they probably believe it's the right time to cut them off.

the director directed the hell out of that library scene..I love how long the tension kept building and building. I also loved how calmly LJQ handled it instead of exploding. His calm demeanor was far scarier and menacing than if he reacted violently instead
