Reading through the comments I can see that there is a lot of complaints about the lack of romance between the leads but as an older, married person, I would disagree.

I agree there is less skinship, sure. No random underwater scene, or resuing from a horse. Or other tropes one sometimes is used to getting. But instead what we have is a couple that care for one another, trust each other, help each other in their problems, gets a long with their friends and most of their family. What in essence is the the foundation of a happy long life.

Me too!

That's why I found those commenters so offensive. The show does a good job of contrasting the double standard that exists in this society.

Random rant. I watch this show on Viki and they have a feature where you can watch live comments. But whenever I turn them on, there is someone who wants to complain about how much the FL eats. It just annoys me.

SO WHAT IF SHE EATS! Let her. Aside from the fact that she's only a character. She's not fat, far from it. I am glad she's eating. I just found it really rude.

Incase you are wondering I did comment back to that user but it happens a lot. So I just decided to turn of the comment feature.

Those princess were pretty rude, even to their own mothers. Never mind their lack of grace and kindness. But I'm just referring this perpetual habit of blaming CSS.

Yes sometimes CSS is at fault, but she's not always at fault...and it would be nice if parents could stand up for her more. I am missing ep. 20 when her mom slapped mother Luo.

Really all her mom could have said was I would also be worried if it was Yang Yang. (the bias is dumb) Because even a 'perfect' girl would struggle in such a family. I am not implying Yang Yang is perfect. But she's not the problem. CSS mom is.

She feels guilty that she left her daughter behind, she's worried that LBY family will too difficult, and in general she looks down on her daughter for her lack of etiquette.

But her mom doesn't even try to teach her unless it's at the last minute. And honestly has she even once tried to hang out which her daughter, try to understand her. The only event is when she wanted to measure her clothes. And she gave up half way. After CSS said something wrong.

If you watch CSS with other women who are kinder, she seems to be able to learn. But most of the time her mom just starts with a negative, and proceeds to berate her. It's really frustrating to watch.

I really want CSS to find a patron/teacher/guide who will cares about her and really helps refine her her for life with the General. And I also really want her mom to repent and apologize for her lack of mothering her only daughter.

What I don't understand about this plot is why everyone blames CSS for everything.

I find it even worse when she is yell at her when they get home. Like can you not apologize and comfort your daughter. WTF! Why is everything CSS fault! It was LBY who proposed and the king you made it a command.

That's what I really found despicable!

It really is the neglect of her grandmother. But also her lack of motivation. I don't think she sees yet the importance of restraint. She also eat so slow. I would have finished the pancake on the road.

Wow also in ep.24 - her mom was was too much.

All those princesses and not a proper lady among them. All of them were really vicious. It was really too much writers!

I agree it's a problem. I hope there is a moment where she realizes how important court etiquette is to put effort in it and finds someone kind and clever to teach her. Her mom is not good in this department.

But I also think it's likely she never imagined she would marry up. And wanted a quiet humble life where she could farm and make furniture.

A-yao is a nice kid. He treated her pretty well and they were cute together. I can understand you feeling sad about it.

I hate this mother character. I can see what they are trying to do here with the tough love approach, but it's so frustrating to watch a mom deliberately alienating her daughter in the name of discipline. CSS is the one who never sees any compassion or care of her mother. I don't know why the writers/directors went in this direction but it pisses me off. Even if she is a strict woman she should display some love to her ONLY daughter. Directly, not behind the scenes.
