I think it was to add some comedy to a tense episode. We all know it was an accident. He is a good character.
You're right it was creepy, especially the way it was filmed.
I think with the return of the boys they all need to re-evaluate their relationships. They can't go back. Part of the reason the incident happened was he thought he could keep treating Jian Jian like he did when she was 16. When he used to tickle her stomach.
I felt sad for him because he opened the cafe shop because it was something she wanted when she was little. Just like Ling Xiao became a dentist for her. They both clearly love her (I think in different ways). I know people are worried about the love triangle, but the show is trying to prove that they love her differently.
I think He Zi Qiu only thinks about having a romantic relationship because he wants their relationship to have some legitimacy. Also in the clips, everyone around them is matchmaking the boys to her.
Speaking of stalking, technically Ling Xiao used Ming Yue to stalk Jian Jian for 9 years. He was just more clever.
He Zi Qiu, true love is his foster father. Who wouldn't love him, he's a saint? But all of his choices, and sacrifices were to help his dad, I'm looking forward to their reunion. As to who he will end up with romantically, it's unclear at this point. I have a wild theory it might be Ling Xiao's sister. Or Ming Yue who used to have a crush on him but switched to Ling Xiao after he yelled at her.
I've forgotten the plot of the original kdrama. But is anyone hoping Han Zhi Sheng has an epiphany of some kind and turns over a new leaf? The actor just looks so earnest.
This show is doing a good job show how hard it is to adopt kids, and how difficult it is for adopted kids. Society seems to have a hard time accepting that an adoptive parent can truly love their kids regardless of bloodlines. I wish this were only true in fiction, but I see it everyday in real life too.
To any parent, step parent or adopted parent I feel for you.
I just watched ep 19 and 20..... all I have to say is how annoying yiren's cousin is!!!! she just makes me so…
I hate them too but I guess the point of them is to explain why the FL is always lying. She grew up in an abusive family, to prevent more abuse she would lie, to keep safe.
Just as the ML hates lying because he's seen how much harm it can do, the FL prefers lying because she hates conflict, and doesn't want to get hurt.
Can I just say the comments about this drama are hilarious. People seem to love it or hate it, and many seem uncomfortable with the ML either for his age or for his looks. He definitely an unexpected choice. I think he's a very well respected actor in China, and watching the show he seems sincere in his performance. This show isn't for people looking for eye candy or uncomfortable with the age difference, but it is light and fun.
I agree with @Alizwa, if this was Wallace Chung, I think this would be less of an issue, but everyone has their preferences.
Thank you for teaching me a new term: old cows eating young grass, LOL
No, the ML like Xi Shui better. You can tell from the end of ep 24. And yes. Many XS scene are cut of from this…
I saw that too, but he still said his choice. I have watched all the episodes now. I don't really speak mandarin so I can only guess what was said. I am looking forward to all the translations.
I have to say all the cut scenes make the show re-watchable, only so I can see what I may have missed in the first viewing. Honestly even though I am loving the show, the ML is a confusing character.

I think up until episode 24 his like for her is like a good friend or companion - at best I would describe it as affection, not really romantic love. I agree he only thinks of ZY as his sister, but we are meant to see she's a better fit for him (pretty, elegant, and smart). Where as XS is wild, unpolished, and uncivilised. I watch a lot of dramas that hug they have after the bombing situation is reluctant. I know the relationship builds a little after, with hand holding but remember, the ML didn't chose XS in episode 24. I think this will be the turning point for the both of them. I think the ML will have regret for his decision and figure out his feelings. She will probably remember he didn't pick her, and that determines her future behaviour. (I know this is a spoiler for anyone reading, but based on the BTS and ending song she clearly pulls through but I think people will presume she is dead).
For anyone reading this, the romance is a minor plot, most of the story is about the guilds'. It's really an action and suspense drama.
I agree I wish this drama was on a daily schedule, I hate waiting week to week.
From the way this is being directed/edited I feel like HMC isn't meant to have feelings for either FLs. His portrayal is fairly ambivalent.
In episode 21 (I think) feel like they cut an important scene. Xi Shui was aware she was being taken, and using her wits to figure out what to do. So how did they manage to tie her up to the bomb? There must be a scene where she is trying to escape that was edited out.
Also my little beef regarding the ML. He gets mad at Xi Shui for "always causing problems" but most of the real problems they have is due to his being "Holder."
As for Zhong Yao, her character is complicated. She's very pretty and the custom designers are encouraging it (although I must say the hats look cheap). Anyways I think Zhong Yao, was highlighted in the last few episodes as the more intelligent, appropriate parter for HMC, but the guys mind doesn't seem to be about romance.
I also think the Mechanic has a crush on XS, and he does a good job of conveying it.
I don't think this is romance. I also don't think Xi Shui is the same character from Under the Power (of course there similarities), only because I think the story arc is different.
1. She likes the ML first 2. She's already the queen in her field (but they haven't really shown her true power: poison) 3. I think she's going to go from unsophisticated to sophisticated.
But even if I am wrong, I like how different this story is. The action scenes, set design, and gadgets are pretty fun.
OK, I don't understand. Why doesn't Min Chu seem to care about Xi Shui's sudden disappearing?! I mean they were…
I think it's meant to be a cliff hanger. My guess is he either knows it's her tribe who took her and she is probably safe, or he needs to ensure that the first assignment is done first, before he can intervene and use the team. As leader he can't use his team for his own gain. - Keep in mind I am just guessing. I could totally be wrong.
-- My question is why did he cry when she asked him if he liked her. I was very confused.
