At E20 right now and am so hating the Xiao Siblings both Xiao Han and Xiao Qing. Such scheming cunning people. Also somewhat annoyed by Zheng Yi's toxicy Mom π. Hoping to see the much awaited chemistry b'ween our leads like everyone's saying here....
P.S. a small ques for Wang Anyu's fans please can you recommend some of his good works? I've watched Forever Love and now watching this.
I do understand that ratings and rating sites are all on perspective. Thanks for commenting your thoughts on domestic…
I agree with you on Parasite and Squid Game. To be honest, I didn't find both the shows as something new as well. I mean Japan has been making such content since a while and class disparity and wealth has been center point of films or dramas across the globe since the initial days especially when I talk about Indian Cinema, we had a movie called Mother India (1957), based on similar concept (though with Songs and Dances as usual :/), the only Indian Movie to date to make it the Academy Awards final round but maybe the reason behind the success of Squid Game and Parasite is that A. both released when world has been going through a turmoil (especially in case of Squid Game) and people are really fed-up with the Rich acquiring unprecedented amount of wealth in these times which they could relate with through this show and the other reason behind success of K-content is simply following a hot trend which started from the initial success of BTS as a global phenomenon then other groups followed which led to people being curious about Korean Culture and how Koreans live which then lead people to check out Korean Movies and Dramas, then came in Netflix in the frame and now everything Korean is GLOBAL whether Korean Cosmetics or Food everything is worthy of showing off or putting up on your Social Media account.

See that's what I said.... Perspective! Everyone sees things differently and have different opinions for that thing. I'll give you an example from my own country, India. In 2016 I guess movie called Bahubali released. That movie although wasn't promoting patriotism but was deep rooted in India's ancient culture and kinda promoted/glorified our society. It was a Big Hit one of the reason behind that was the use of CGI and the scale of production it was produced with which was unseen before. But it failed miserably in international market, why? Because that movie wasn't something new for the international audience. Hollywood has been making such War Costume Movies since a long time and so is China. So maybe one of the reason behind lower recognition for shows such as Bad Kids could be that there are already great amount of dramas based on similar concept. A few days ago I was reading an article about how Squid Game and Parasite changed the parameters of what is considered a Korean Drama or Movie. This could change the taste and preferences of the local audience too. I mean since Parasite won Oscars and Squid Game became the most watched Netflix series, everyone will try to replicate that success and grab eyes of International Viewers. This could totally change what we have been watching all through this time. Standards will shift, concepts will change, perhaps less rom-coms and more realistic dramas will be the norm in the future.
I feel that as a viewer, people should try watching at least 2-3 Episodes then decide to continue or not.
I don't think that it's about one site being harsh than other. It's all about PERSPECTIVE.
I mean how many of the international audience would want to watch a show which is promoting 'Xi Jinping Thought' or CPC's ideology.
International audience obviously watches something which is either universal or something which they haven't seen in their own local dramas. For example the romantic quotient of Asian Dramas is what the most attractive part for a person coming from "another world". I mean let's accept it Hollywood is really bad at making Fluffy Rom-com and they don't even make a lot of these Dramas to begin with. European Cinema is more realistic hence the audience wanna explore something different which then lands on fluffy light 'not-so-brainy' Dramas. Oh and also the majority raters on MDL are defo Females while I don't have the exact data to Douban's demographic but I feel there's a chance of males being majority (or a substantial amount) of raters on Douban. Besides then again it's all about PERSPECTIVE and Familiarity. I mean Chinese local audience would be more familiar with the show's concept and view it with totally different perspective while comparing to their real life situations than someone sitting miles away. Take Kdramas for example, a lot shows which are popular outside Korea/are rated high on MDL or other such sites are bashed/criticized in South Korea. Remember 'King: The Eternal Monarch' or Scarlet Heart Ryeo. International audience can be more biased towards one trend/idol/actor and reluctant to watch something which is rather unknown. Uhm like for example more and more international viewers either watch or find about dramas through Netflix or the ones which get hyped up on social media. Same goes with K-pop too like BTS is the THING while people never have listened to rather unknown or should I say less popular Korean singers/groups with way less massy selling point. I feel that as long as people are more open to exploring more content which sometimes is unheard or is rather unknown then those type of shows will get better ratings rather than just following one kinda trend while bashing other genre altogether.
I didn't watch around a third of the shows listed above and dropped Backstreet Rookie at E6, It's okay to be not okay at E2, Prince of Wolf at E1, Hundred Days at E2, Black at E5, Doom at your service at E3, Tale of Nine Tailed at E3.
Finally a Kdrama that got me outta my slump which lasted almost a year. I loved the FL and ML and their chemistry but this show had some elements which I didn't like for example ML's Family and the staff of the Gallery. Besides I kinda felt that something's missing throughout the show. And they rushed the ending tbh IDK why they didn't give a proper ending with the bad guys in the Jail or at least getting prosecuted and the FL and ML getting married? Anyway I loved Kim Min-jae and always feel that he's way too underrated.
Finally decided to drop it and dropped it after partially watching E23. Read the comment above to know the reason.
I totally get your point and the writing is definitely great no doubt but it's really frustrating to watch this show. Perhpas I might watch other 4 episodes in the future but for now I'm watching other shows which aren't as frustrating as this one was.
I am no LMH stan but he is not a bad actor. Is he overrated? Yes. Is he a bad actor? Nah. It's just that he chooses…
Yeah I think I overdid there by saying that he's a bad actor but tbh his roles in the past haven't been that great... I have watched Gangnam Blues and BoF and Legend of the Blue Sea were the first dramas that I watched 5 or 6 years ago but I couldn't see his acting in any of those dramas. Anyway I hope the Space Fever gets over soon. Ever since Squid Game and Kingdom or Parasite, definition of Kdramas and Movies seems to have different criteria. Everyone wants to stand out and make Big Budget, CGI driven shows with different concepts while losing its original charm like it's been so long since I watched a Korean Rom-com/Melo which used to give butterflies in my stomach.
Done watching this beautiful dorama!! Loved the concept and being an otaku myself and a single child of a single mom I could relate to almost everything. Loved the acting and the chemistry between all the cast. This one is one of those few dramas where I didn't skip a single second throughout the 10 Episodes. Wish it had more episodes :(
Gonna rewatch this one soon!!
P.S. I just wrote a review of this dorama here on MDL.
A Big NO for me!! GHJ and LMH doesn't seem to be fitting I mean I don't think they'll have chemistry plus LMH is a bad actor (No offence). He is one of those few big time overrated actors. GHJ while on the other hand is a great actor so technically they should either cast any other male actor or perhaps drop the idea of making a Space Rom-com. IDK even the concept sounds weird to me why a space rom-com?π Besides they have a really big budget which I think is a gamble. Big budget doesn't guarantee you the ratings or ad revenue or critical appreciation.
Just completed this show and I can say that this was a fun ride. The first Jdrama that I completed. (To date I've watched good amount of J-movies but not more than 2-3 Jdramas.) I was totally enchanted by Ishihara Satomi π π. She's really Beautiful.
The show isn't something new or different than your regular Rom-com/Melo drama kinda similar to the Rich Guy Poor Girl or CEO plotline except that the ML is a Rich Monk which tbh was surprising for me since being an Indian I didn't know that Japan allows Buddhist Monks to Marry π². Anyway the reason why I continued watching this was defo the FL and her comic family lol π Her parents are really hilarious.
Tbh this show can have a more than 8 star rating. I think that generally Jdramas are rated well below than their Chinese or Korean counterparts which have similar plots. The only issue which I have with Jdramas in general is that the Camera Quality or should I say the Visuals feel a lil outdated when compared to Kdramas. I mean this show is from 2015 yet it has same Visual/Production Quality of Boys of Flowers (Korean) from 2009. Idk why they have this yellowish orange tint? When Japanese are known for their Cameras worldwide lol ππ¬
I needed super silly; somebody stole my car's California catalytic converter. The FL looks like Im Ji Yeon from…
Yeah the one in poster looks totally someone else lol π Maybe cuz they changed the shape of her lips in the Poster I guess. Anyway Satomi is really beautiful π
Hoping to see the much awaited chemistry b'ween our leads like everyone's saying here....

I've only completed Secret Garden, Hit the Top, Fight My Way, Search WWW, Shopping King Louie, Korean Odyssey, Goblin, BoF, What's wrong with Secretary Kim and Vincenzo that too cuz I was a rookie back then when these shows aired except Vincenzo, and these shows were really popular. Oh and btw I liked Fight My Way and Shopping King Louie they weren't that bad maybe this list needs 'The Heirs' too, written by a popular Writer (Kim Eun-sook) infamous for writing clichΓ©d overrated dramas.
Fun Fact: I have a drop rate of 48% according to MDL's analysis of my profile lol ππ¬
