Excellent drama. Takito and the rest of the cast is excellent.
It's very intense though, and it's taking me a long time to watch it. I just finished episode 6. and I downloaded the series in a year and a half ago.
There's a lot in here. Grief and loss over all are the themes. i like that Minako's story is embedded with Kikuo's. iit feels like she's coming along in a way with him on his journey, and so are we as the viewers.
Why does this sound exactly like the plot of the UK series Doc Martin? Which one came first?
this doesn't really sound like Doc Martin aside from a doctor going to a rural area. The characters seem different. Also this came out a year earlier and was also based on a manga. So i think it's safe to say there's no connection.
Fujiki is so funny in this. He was also gorgeous back then. I can't tell if I want the main leads to end up together or not because Okamura reminds me of all the guys I've met who were so extreme with their ideologies they can't actually use common sense.
The "age gap" of three years between a married couple in their 50s? Better stay away from Long Vacation, I guess.
Excellent response.
There's such a double standard, especially when this is so common in jdramas when the the male lead is older than the female one.
For instance the jdrama from two years ago where Kimura was paired with Matsushima Hikari who is 13 years younger than he is. I don't recall any complaints there. (nopbody mentioned the age gap in the comments there I see).
Here Amami is six years older than Kimura and somehow this is a problematic age gap. Ridiculous.
That said they seem mismatched as a couple. Have they ever starred in anything together before?
I like Koike Eiko normally but the way she speaks English is so annoying and overdone. Like how are we supposed to believe she grew up in the US. I get that it's a bit over the top to begin with but are they just relying that their viewership will just not know better?
I'm up to episode 8. I went to work one day this week and a client made a sexist joke and I felt myself channel Sakae with my feelings of disgust. This isn't the '80's thank you. Maybe it's because I'm a gen-xer and a woman and a geek but Sakae is very relatable (although I was never bossy like she was). Yoshida is so good at different roles.
I love everyone in this. I can't fully say I love the music parts but they're not as annoying as they started out to be. Other commenters mentions this too so I'm glad that was the case for me as well as normally I don't like musicals at all.
It's so nice to see Takito in a main role and also in a serious role. I'm early in (ep 2) but it's great. I've been in the unenviable position after my spouse's death where I didn't really know why he made some decisions, and it's a nice fantasy watching a character grieving, yet being able to trace his wife's footsteps and follow her.

If I shipped anyone it would be Nagi and her fan which probably doesn't work anymore, but I feel she would keep it as a symbol.

Edit: I'm on episode 5 and I'm shocked to say they've grown on me... somewhat.
