But he reconciled his guilt and his internal conflict which over extends to the general plot too so there’s no point
On D.P. Season 2 Jul 29, 2023
for anyone who was looking for some connective tissue with the stories in season 2 i would say it's best not to. season 2 works perfectly as a compendium of short stories highlighting individual stories of individual people and hammering a consistent theme and message throughout. Throughout every episode of season 2 we see the system being the problem and not just the act of bullying and I think that's the genius of season 2. season 1 in contrast of does sort of go along those lines but emphasizes the role of morality and knowing what's good and what's not instead of highlighting the system.

god nihilism has beaten itself so deep into our society and our brains I too felt that her change was dissonant but she's a mother herself...how can you not be empathetic and destroyed on the inside as a human being after seeing all that. it isn't something that has to be gradual everyone has a capacity of good inside them

to say the entire show is an unbearable stupid circus show would be an understatement...I hate the constant bemoaning of regret and stuff like jesus its been ten years. If you're sorry do something instead of just bemoaning

Thank you so much for this…I barely have an understanding of macroeconomics so it was hard to grasp but simplifying like this makes it easy to understand

Not all period dramas are like this and both Rise of the phoenixes and A Dream of splendor are really great example of this. Specifically with Dream of Splendor where the female characters don't compromise but rather fight back against the system, hold their ground, be independent, and call out any sort of inherent biases perpetuated by others. Just because it's in the past doesn't mean you should be passive about it and it being in the past doesn't absolve it from being problematic. Also the characters and their characterization aren't made out to be annoying with nonsensical plot lines.

Uhm whuuut?
My only gripe with it is acknowledgement and subversion.. i could care less about original story lines really and even considering that adaptations are supposed to be a translation into a different medium so obviously some changes are allowed but thats besides the point. From the tone of the show to shaoshangs characterization resulting from implicit biases about modern women and the liberties they exercise, everything just feels wrong fundamentally and i'm not comfortable with how hell bent everyone is on passively consuming the show and not acknowledging valid criticisms like mine. It's a reflection to what i'm saying about there being an agenda being pushed when people use the rhetoric of "well thats how things were in the past". Thats a flawed argument because it's the equivalent of saying it's fine to depict racism for "realism" sake all the while not acknowledging from a creative/directorial and audience standpoint that it was a bad thing then and it is a bad thing now. It's not simply my interpretation of the show there are subtleties clearly being portrayed which can substantiate my concerns.

Very glad you get my point and yes sure i guess this is a to each their own sort of situation but a lot of people are hell bent on salvaging the drama from valid criticism and its weird and conerning
