This drama is heavily conservative …that’s a turn offf
Edit: read my responses to other comments that try to poorly salvage the show before doing anything cause I’m tired of repeating the same stuff to 500 people

Yeah so the dynamic ultimately becomes who has the heaviest leverage over the emperor himself cause Confucian ideals (I believe) dictate that he should repay them with kindness even if the person did the bare minimum. It also places the emperor in a weak position where is one person was responsible for 75% of the work which led to him becoming emperor then that means that person is also if not just as powerful more powerful than the emperor

Yeah I understand that but I feel like this dram places more emphasis on the transactional relationships the emperor has with either his concubines or zisheng himself. Like the more favor he owes you the more powerful you/your clan are which sort of ties into ancestry and military aiding. This is where I’m confused.
I am so confused by the power dynamics within the palace…like what determines who is the most powerful. Is it ancestry, army/troop numbers , or political alliances?
Honestly I don’t even know how to feel about this drama…only feeling I can describe rn is that I feel like a rainbow experiencing a range of emotions just like how the rainbow has a lot of colors. Sadness and happiness all mixed and Vibing together
I would like my life to be like Yeom Change Hee where I would be at the place where I am destined to be. Would…
I don’t think yeom Chang hee is purposefully destined to be at the places he ends up…more like he makes peace with the circumstances he’s in and it kinda feels like destiny….there’s never a wrong place to be really cause life is full of uncertainties but it’s up to how you deal with that and face it. Whatever mistake or right thing you’ve done has led you to that place and in that moment so make peace with it and maybe you’ll find something.
Why do you think the drama is a sympathy tear jerker bait?
overused formula of dire situations being elevated to an overly dramatic level and has zero to no depth. The nuances surrounding those dire situations aren't necessarily explored neither are the solutions proper ones. They make a systematic failure the fault of an individual and their personal choices. Take the veteran for example. He should've been compensated by the gov't, but they didn't do that and instead he was subjected to a life of loneliness. Instead of him losing trust in his country and his gov't he places the blame on himself. I feel like that's insanely contrived and it's even laughable when you realize the god herself didn't care about the man until his final moments. When things are overly dramatic. Rowoon's character and how immature he is was already portrayed on the current ep so i won't elaborate on it. I did enjoy your article though ^-^
Ngl the entire premise of this drama is sympathy tear jerker bait and that enough is annoying and then coupled with rowoons character and their immaturity with the everyone can be saved mindset makes it unbearable and unsalvageable
“Youth is lonesome without particular reason….nobody talks about it but it’s harder than growing old” I can cry for ages about how much this sentence resonates with my sould
