I'm on episode 6 and boy is it terrible. The editing is horrendous, fight scenes laughable, writing and plot confusing and spectacularly botched. But I'm still watching. Why? Amazingly for the female lead.
I'm seeing so many mixed reviews. The biggest reason I'm watching this. It's a Xian xia. An epic love story that spans life times with lots of angst and amazing chemistry btn the lead. I haven't had that this year. For me the best Xian xia of last year was love and redemption. I know that angst and chemistry aren't all that makes a Xian xia but it's one of the biggest factors that pull me in and make me stay. We haven't gotten to the angsty part of this drama but I know it's coming. And as the director who directed this also directed love and redemption. Got my fingers crossed. As for actors, I'm adjusting to xukai. After seeing him in court lady that happy go lucky mischievous character to being serious 100k year old god. Just like how I had to adjust from seeing him in the legends then seeing him ling jian mountain. The man experiments and I like that about him. It's my first drama with Dong Yu. She has a mature face and her acting naughty and playful may feel off at the beginning but as her character grows and matures she is coming into her own. Gonna look for more of her work.I saw Liu xue Yi in more serious roles and I'm adjusting seeing him in a playful one.
I enjoyed watching this, my room com guilty pleasure. The only thing that was a pet peeves was they wanted me to believe as an independent woman with a previous relationship she was less sexually experienced than a virgin in his first relationship? I see it in a lot of dramas that them man has to take the lead, but usually the man is older or more experienced. I have no idea why I'm talking about this here but seeing the FL as deer cought in headlight or as a log on the sofa as if she had never kissed before while she had a whole a** relationship before just rubbed me the wrong way. I mean you want me to believe that they were just holding hands before?
I love my big actor/actress drama. But sometimes I feel some productions rely too much on the star power instead of the plot, pacing and overall quality of the drama. But this I just started on a whim. Didn't know any of the actors/ actresses I just liked the investigative genre an I don't regret it. Wow what a gem. It reminded me of ancient detective how a gem of drama it was. Love Chuchu and Jin Yu. Watched until ep 22 and I'm looking forward to his answer. And I what makes me love this even more is smart ( semi smart) villains ( the help not so much). The eunuch just really creeps me out like a hidden snake ready to pounce. And the elaborate plan that Duke Chang seems to have is just intriguing.
It was fore shadowed since the first act. I knew that Seo Bok was going to die. But still I wasn't prepared when he died. Even after the gun shot I wanted him to survive, I wanted a end credit scene where he opened his eyes and see the world life at it's most beautiful. But that didn't happen and I guess that's the reality of life. But then again I wondered what life he would have alive and thought that death was probably better. I know I would choose that. Why should I leave forever If that means continuous pain and suffering, all for the benefit of a greedy few. But damn his death stung. The third act reminded me of the book of the ones who walk from omelas. That there were people who wanted joy and continuous happiness coming from immortality in this case and then Seo Bok is the one who has to endure continuous misery and pain. And how some who know would gladly let that happen as long as they get what they want.
Watched it for Bo Gum and So Dam. I knew if was a slow slice of life kind of drama. I've been watching to much action, thriller, mystery k drama and a lot of costumes c dramas and wanted a change. I liked it. Though I did a little self editing with the skip button. And yes some plots and plot progression didn't make sense making me scratch my head with a question mark. I'm going to blame the writers for that. All in all I enjoyed it. Maybe I just wanted something a bit full to fit my recent mood.
Lol. Wait he did that drunk? Wow. Even more respect. Shi de was in pain, heart broken he wanted shu to so bad but also knew that shuyi hated him and wanted to hurt him. He had to share all those emotions while drunk?
Ep 2, mnh, Sam and Yu's acting. Giving a standing ovation. But seriously Sam, wow. When shi de broke down on the hall way, saying sorry and asking to start over, he was a broken man and how Sam portrayed that was just chefs kiss. This ep was a rollercoaster of emotions.
Maybe it's his writing style? lol. Same thing happened in JOL, scripts for other ladies were better than FL
Haven't read the novel for joy of life. So don't know how they changed the fl character. She didn't seam infantalized a XW. She just seam weak. There ia a difference btn innocence and full on infantalization. An example is rong rong she could be deamed innocent, but XW is just hair splitting. Even the 6yr old XW in the novel has more emotional maturity. But still this is just my opinion. It might not seam like that to all. Usually I can't stand when a fl is written like that and just drop. But this the character dynamics btn the 7 devils is just a joy to watch.
Binged watched 28 episodes and now reading the translated novel while waiting for new episodes. The world really intrigued me and wanted to know more. One thing I will not forgive the screen writers is what they did to Xiao Wu character. Why do they keep infantilizing the fl?
Finished episode 11 and I want to hunt the writers down so we can have a very loooong talk. Why? Why? I felt like I had been hit in the guts, and that was a very dirty punch. This drama is a roller coaster of emotions. Lord the acting was superb especially on those gut wrenching scenes everyone delivers especially the actor playing So Mun. Gonna keep an eye out for more of his works.
68 episodes? Oh lord. The cinematography is insane, I'm in love with the sets and costumes just breath taking. But whose decision was it to make the male leads play their younger selves? The story opens up with them being in their late teens? My suspension of disbelief really had a hard time with that. All in all the acting was wonderful. I don't know why I kept comparing it with story of minglan. Wondering if this is when it should've come out.
Luke warm review but I like it. Ok maybe Im biased cuz of Hu yi tian. I really like his character Gao Shan ambiguous and never say what he means. Now he got me wondering about his feelings for Lin wo. Yes he likes her, that was established early on but him acting on them now is it him just letting his emotions go? (He almost did that before)or is it a calculated ploy of some kind. Their love may look beautiful, I'm sure we are going to get some sweet moments but there are going to be some hurt coming when his past comes to life. So the question is are they going to hold on to this rose of a love with not thorns but barbs at its stems? Theirs an image of them standing on a thin barb wire with their backs to each other in the intro theme, that doesn't bode well. But the title you complete me gives me hope for a happy ending.
"I'm sorry...... I saved you the day your mother abandoned you." Oh that scene has stayed in my head for a while. My favorite relationship dynamic is the brothers. There is so much hurt wondering how they are going to overcome it.
Watching this for Ireine Song. Staying for the sweet tooth inducing fluffy cute story. I don't know why but I think the height difference is cute? Ireine looks so tiny next to him.
