It's not just the promotional material, it's the dramatic effects, the slow panning shots, the romantic settings (like that sunset lit on top of the building moment between NDS and SDM, I mean come on now! don't make it so obvious) There is just huge writer Bias.
Me personally, i'm just watching to see how the writer will give HJP a good ending, I can't figure it out, so i'm curious. I'm not invested in the main couple at all but rather focusing on these following character Arcs.

Right now though, he does have the older brother vibe to NDS. And the way NDS is acting is actually no different from how SDM acts towards WIJ.
In fact, I see strong parallels between

Both of the elder characters are harsh with their younger counterpart. But even in those harshness, we see some support/advice coming in.
And both younger counterparts act like ungrateful brats, that tries to hyper compete with their seniors.
This may have been the original intention of the writer, but problem is KSH and Suzy have such strong chemistry that their platonic scenes are looking like straight up romantic scenes. And NJH's romantic scenes are looking like straight up familial scenes.

To be honest, I think that has more to do with Go Kyung-Pyo for strongest delivery man.
I can't explain it, but I have never been convinced that Go Kung Pyo is ML material. Face wise I don't find him very handsome, and he lacks that charisma and stage presence. He make a decent second lead though.

The thing is there is a disconnect with the moniker Living Buddha.
According to NDS parents, he is called living Buddha because, like Buddha he is always giving, and giving. Even failing to make other people feel better. Basically it's like saying NDS is so nice, he's like Buddha. Thus the term living Buddha.
BUT, NDS himself has a different definition. In his mind he has the patience of Buddha, but when he shows these acts of patience and compassion, he is actually seething underneath, which he then tries to diffuse by knitting.
Quite a stark difference from what the parents were telling Alex.
In my experience, people who bottle up their emotions when their angry, can become quite dangerous people, as they are unable to express their anger in a healthy manner. And will always be in danger of releasing all the pent up emotions in a negative way.

I mean, if you watch the first 8 episodes, Samtech's success isn't in the forefront, they are barely squeezing by as it is even with help from HJP.
And when was the last time NDS put his company ahead of his girlfriend? Which is unfair to Chulsan and Yongsan as they are really banking on the business succeeding. I mean, Imagine the leader of the company, the guy who has the most shares, making decision using emotion, he would be kicked out of the board. But since he is 61% owner, who can kick him out right?
NDS dramatically changed ever since he cut his hair. I know NJH looks more handsome with his new hair, but I really like his original curly hair, as it really fit the fact that he is this goofy, nerdy coder, similar to the CEO of Pied Piper on the show Silicon Valley.
Just waiting for the foreshadowed betrayal, not quite sure who will betray the company, and for what reason. Hopefully the writer makes it believable.

but you still have crossed love lines here, and ship wars will still exist. The goal is not to have ship wars or love triangle at all IMO. The writer in this scenario, you, would get a lot of flak specially with KSH acting.
I mean we have to assume the chemistry from KSH and Suzy is still fire, and in this scenario, people may not buy that HJP and SDM just wants to be friend IMO.

DS's competitiveness with HJP starts in that party where they play Go-stop. I think that is the first time NDS realizes HJP may have feelings for SDM, and he purposely tells HJP, your history with SDM means nothing to the present relationship I have with her. I think at this point HJP is still confused with his feelings, but having someone challenge you like that, especially for macho men, will always have the same result.
When HJP went to grandma's house my heart was breaking for him. Like he did want to stop NDS from telling the truth, but once NDS agreed to take his advice, HJP was prepared to leave them, but then SDM invited him. Nothing wrong for him to have dinner since he does have a hidden relationship with Grandma, but the way NDS was kicking him out, lying that HJP had plans has got to irk HJP. I think HJP stayed for dinner because of how disrespectful NDS was being. Considering, albeit hidden, HJP has more of a relationship/history with Grandma and SDM, yet he is the one being kicked out. HJP being the protective older brother, creates a persona of a rich, successful, and kind man, because that is the man he wants his sister to marry, they chose NDS name because winning the math Olympics seems like the logical first step to become succesful.
When SDM seeks to find NDS, HJP finds that NDS is a loser and doesn't want his sister to fall for him. But as fate would have it SDM finds NDS anyway. But HJP knowing NDS is a loser, tries his best to make NDS the man he always dreamed his sister would marry, so he tries to "Fix" NDS.
NDS is being difficult because HJP is making him someone he is not, so he wants to tell SDM the truth, but HJP wont' allow it, because he hasn't' completely molded NDS into a wealthy man yet. NDS pleads that he wants to achieve success on his own ways, and not how HJP wants it.
SDM eventually finds out though before NDS has the chance to tell the truth. And although she blames her grandma and brother HJP, she ultimately gets angry at NDS, and they break up.
Add in a few angsty episodes, and SDM realizes she loves NDS for who he is, and not what his brother HJP has made him. They reconcile, and they live happily ever after.
This is how you avoid a love triangle and keep the same story.

In episode 3, when NDS and SDM are on the bus and she first notices NDS large hands, she comments on it and places her small hands in his larger ones. The reason she talks about the hands because its symbolism for the larger hand to comfort her smaller one. She feels taken care of by NDS. And this shows as every decision SDM makes, NDS just says yes. They have a physical bond with their intertwined hands.
For HJP, she likes that he is nosy in her affairs as it makes her better. Also for some reason, she cannot explain, she likes it that HJP is minding her business, it also provides her with a comfort she cannot explain. Like when she sleeps in his car. So eventhough SDM and HJP does not have a physicals connection to HJP, she still feels connected somehow to her. She felt such a strong connection that she thought HJP might like her as a girl.
Episode 6 Time Stamp 29:33. This stare from SDM to HJP, speaks a thousand words IMO.

Being able to write the flaws of a character doesn't equate into hate, it just shows ones ability to observe and record. When we are praising manipulative tendencies I have to defend. Since in real life, someone who appropriates somebody else's history is called fraud, no matter how romantic the reasoning.
The scene in question when you say to someone, ok you choose left or right, and i'll accept your decision. And you choose left, and then changes your decision to right. And I tell you, well sorry, I want left so tough luck if you want right. Is the definition of manipulative. It shows that in the beginning if you had chosen right, I would have vetoed you right away. Do you want a clearer example of how this is manipulative?

Hate is a strong word, NDS rubs me the wrong way, and is not my favorite character due to his manipulative ways.
The thing is, he prolonged/extended a lie that didn't need to get more complex. He also made SDM's future pain from finding out the truth much much more painful. And his insecurity and over competitiveness with HJP has really made him such a dark character doing things that is uncharacteristic with his initial portrayal in the first 2 episodes.
He never once hurt others? His decisions thus far, have been more about SDM than his company, that hurts his investors, his coworkers, his parents. He has been lucky that HJP is helping SDM or else they would have failed by now.
And as i've said in other post. For someone supposedly kind and warm hearted, he shows none of this to HJP, who actually is helping him more than anybody else in the show. No gratitude either.

HJP tries to discourage NDS from telling the truth, giving him some opinions that it can hurt he current state of the company. But NDS, who does not like HJP and feels very insecure and competitive with HJP is taunting HJP. He is pretty much goading here. NDS pretty much says, watch my short time with her is going to be more impactful than your letters. This is like a slap in the face tbh, and cruel from NDS.

NDS has not in anytime been keeping up the lie to protect Grandma and HJP. He even betrays Grandma's trust by telling about her eyes.
NDS has always been about one person, and that is NDS. He is not a selfless person, every move he does benefits him in some way. Even making the app for Grandma, makes him star shine brighter in SDM eyes.
HJP on the otherhand, keeps saying he does all this for the debt to grandma, but we all know that is not true. Yet, he can't take any credit for doing any of this for his love of SDM. In fact, all the good thing he does for the company just shows to SDM how close of a "brotherhood" NDS and HJP is suppose to have.
We should all pity HJP as a tragic hero, because that is what he is.
And all your doing is reminding me, how manipulative NDS has been throughout this series.
