Yeah, it's destined to be a cult classic. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it but...It's missing star power: add Lee…
I think this show doesn't sell enough fantasy to gather big audience. Like competing slots of weekend theatre versus matinee cinema. Most people want to tune-off from real life, and not see a replication of their life on-screen! :'(
"sitting face to face... feels a little aggressive" let me join the liberation club too. i have found my people!
Confession: I find face-to-face silence stifling & awkward. Which is why I normally fill up with small-talk, even monologues, being the fake-extrovert that I am. I wish I could be Mi-Jeong, and zone-out whenever I want. :')
IDK if i should be laughing about it, but that long jump just made me laugh so hard 😭 the way his body looked…
Please... the fact that Mi-Jeong & Mr. Gu seem like they'd be the ideal candidates to settle in the countryside while the latter gets adopted into the family as the son-in-law... [just like Ki-Jeong seems likely to get it on with the single-dad, and Chang-Hee looks like he'll be the eternal city-bachelor eventually, with the older siblings having moved out in the near future]...
But I know despite all the potential behind these setup... it is very likely not going to manifest in ANY of these end-game scenarios! xD It seems like it is *that* kind of a drama, & I'm perfectly okay with it! :P
Gong Yoo, Han Hyo Joo, & Teo Yoo are watching this. Also Gong Yoo wrote under his IG caption “ I worship you”…
I find it so telling that Jungkook & other famous idols were watching 25-21/ Business Proposal and now GY and the oldies (like me) are watching MLN (& perhaps even Our Blues!) ^^
even tho I haven't started the Taiwanese version I think you should try to watch it first since the korean remark…
Hi. Genuine concern for all those (like you, who haven't watched). If you're trawling twitter for regular updates, I'm SO sorry, but the 'big suspense' is going to get spoiled by some random user eventually, before this remake is released. And that would be *such* a shame, from a story-telling point of view & keeping personal biases aside! I would highly recommend you watch the original before any spoilers get to you. The payoff is so shocking but worth-it, you will actually NOT mind watching the remake (once it airs), as it won't take away much of your enjoyment-factor.. really! Ps. The plot is a little complicated, and a *lot* of us have had to watch it multiple times [un-willingly cuz of the blink-&-you-miss complexities, or just out of sheer love for the story!] Watching the original once, will not hamper your remake-watching experience... :D
Ha, ha! I feel your frustration. :)I maybe biased but actually, I kind of admire that J-doramas have the gall…
Absolutely! I love myself some cutesy, non-sensical titles like 'Anohana' (short for Ano hi mita hana no namae o bokutachi wa mada shiranai).... [can we give the best 'long-title' award to this already?] xD xD However, when the mis-translations crop-up and ruin my viewer-experience, I throw hands, cuz that's really the last straw [case in point: Boku-Mada]. Like translator-san, you could have made the effort in the episode, atleast? :P
A recent culprit of a similar crime is the Someday or One Day Remake. They had the choice of sticking to the original Tw title: Xiang Jiang Ni (aka Want to See You) or the Eng Working Title: Someday or One Day (bad title, not tragic). The languages are phonetically similar enough to have a Korean title with the original meaning, Sang Gyeon Ni. But instead it's called 'A Time Called You' with a native title called 'Naegero Wajwo' [meaning ' Come to Me']. Like, WHY? I swear to God, Remake-teams are the WORST offenders, making everybody's lives difficult.
This reminds me of my home-land tradition, where a child is born but only ONE official name can be put on the birth-certificate. So, every distant relative, whose name-pitch didn't get picked, just decides to call you.... *whatever they want*!!!!! Even if their 'nicknames' have zero relation to your official name. And rarely ever are coherent enough to make sense in any human language [read: kids named after sounds] -_- You are just expected to respond to your multiple monikers. Sorry, I went off-tangent with my rant. But yeah, similar situation, I must say! xD
Wow. I LOVE this article, thank you for doing it. It's personally one of those topics I could speak hours on, having learnt Japanese as my 4th language, AFTER English as my 3rd... and figuring out my life became so much easier because Asian languages are so close in syntax/ sentence structure as Indic languages (which are my 1st & 2nd languages, btw!) ^^
As expected, the titles I imagined would make it, did. The titles I never imagined also made it in! xD As I personally know only ONE language out of the 5/6 MDL Asian-country languages (i.e. Japanese)... I must highlight this weird tendency of creators from Japan, who decide to pick titles, that aren't titles at all, but rather long, verbose phrases, which are even a MOUTHFUL for native speakers and thus have to be (cutely) shortened (which may or may not eventually cause a breakdown of the title when translated to English). Off the top of my hat: Hanazakari no kimitachi e (Hana Kimi), Kikazaru Koi ni wa Riyuu Ga Atte (Kikazaru), Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (Koi-Tsuzu), 0-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii (Cheri-Mahou), Watashitachi wa Dduka Shiteru (WataDou), Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (Nige-Haji) etc.
Aren't long phrases such as these already setting themselves up for being mis-translated (& disappointing us?). Honorary mention to " Boku wa Mada Kimi o Aisanai Koto ga Dekiru" (shortened to Boku-Mada) which luckily goes by it's English Name 'I don't Love you yet' so it isn't as difficult for non-speakers on MDL. However, the translation is SO simplified, botched up, and completely wrong, it makes me livid, and my blood boil. Why? Personal biases aside... the mis-translation crops up in the ML's monologues multiple times in the story, AS WELL AS his theme song, thereby ruining the essence of the phrase, *within* the story as well! The marketing team knew the title was so long that it couldn't be a working title (hence Boku-Mada), and the lazy translators just stuck to whatever half-assed title was picked, because they couldn't bother otherwise (for a more nuanced & accurate translation). Ugh. It makes me so, SO mad. Can Japan, for the love of God, start choosing titles which can make everybody's life easier? Please! -_-
"Given Qu Chuxiao's previous roles, I feel like he'd be Ren lol"Are you trying to spoil the manga-ending, Sir?…
I think the only confirmed cast is Qiu Tian. The weibo hashtag seems to claim so, at least! :') Also, Qu Chuxiao has always given me 'sad, tortured, emo' vibes, so yeah, I guess he isn't a bad fit! :P Let's see, I don't mind him as Takumi either! xD
'A wedding would probably just be a formality at the point the story starts'. What I mean by that is that the couple is already at a stage where they are very 'domestic' and 'mentally married', instead of traditional k-drama couples, that hold hand first, then go to amusement park dates, etc. etc. Our couple is already in the 'advance' stages of a relationship.
Recent rumors attach Qu Chuxiao and Liang Sen (Leo Liang) to this project. Given Qu Chuxiao's previous roles,…
"Given Qu Chuxiao's previous roles, I feel like he'd be Ren lol" Are you trying to spoil the manga-ending, Sir? xD xD The fate of his previous characters is a certain match, but does he fit Ren's visuals? :P Liang Sen without hair is perfect for Yasu. Still cannot believe they haven't casted Takumi and Nobu yet! T_T
Rainless Love in a Godless Land. Although, that requires more brain-power to process than SD1D. You could take…
Oof!! What if i told you they took that one scene, and made it EVEN better? T_T my favorite scene too! The lyrics of the song here are even more heart-breaking :( i could send you a translation once you're done watching, cuz yt translations are just WRONG! xD
Yeah, the CP is very much in love, and the story/ narrative kinda flows backwards through generous flashbacks showing us just HOW much the two love e/o. A wedding would probably just be a formality at the point the story starts! :') Jun-Jun couple is a cute name for the two... but there is a slight catch with that! ^^ And the RL house looks super cozy! <3 I can imagine that being the couple's love nest! <3

I think the subs do a disservice to how beautiful the script/ dialogue of the j-version was! Perhaps, the people hating on it, didn't understand the nuance, and the depth of emotions behind the tragedy of their situation, which is very beautifully captured through the lines they speak! Knowing a little bit of grammar & syntax definitely helped me appreciate it almost as much as the domestic audience. I went back to the original after the j-version cuz I was in a mood to cry some more after the finale! xD
That said, a scene for scene comparison will leave you disappointed. But I noticed they trimmed out a lot of fat (side plots) and adapted how the leads are viewed by the society to a very japanese context!! And bonus: it's one of those rarer j-dramas that received a super high budget, and thus has k-drama style visuals, cinematography & editing, so everything looks that much more polished, in comparison to standard j-dramas! :P
Still, if you choose to watch, I would recommend the youtube subs which are tad better than the ones on other not-so-legal platforms! :')
This and more than blue are the only Taiwanese dramas I've seen and some of my favorite of all time, please recommend…
Rainless Love in a Godless Land. Although, that requires more brain-power to process than SD1D. You could take it up as a nice challenge! Bonus, the same team is behind the two dramas! Another Taiwanese masterpiece from the same production-team [3 phoenixes] is 'In time with you'. A widely loved story & a modern classic, but I personally couldn't stomach the old print. Watched the j-version and loved it to BITSS! <3
there's no appartment rooftop in the drama Just the high school rooftop💀 they have their balcony but that's…
Agreed, but I have a feeling a young couple in their early 20's taking a rooftop-apartment (which are common in Korea) as their first shared-accommodation makes a lot of sense, as they are known in the drama-world to be super affordable.
For those of you who have watched the original.... which classic rooftop-apartment from the k-dramas would you like to see as Jun-Hee & Yeon-Jun's Home? <3 My personal bet/ favorite would be the FL's apartment in Doom at Your Service! :')
