And yet, there are people who will continue to do it, because it's not black and white and no matter how wrong you or anyone feels it is, it doesn't change the fact that people are different (whether you think it applies or not) and they will make choices differently and according to their own situations/feelings/circumstances. This is simply the reality of human nature and unstable emotional decision making.

I agree that Chi Cheng should let SW know, I guess I just don't think he should do so directly. As I mentioned originally, in this were not a pre-written scenario (created for the sake of drama XD ) then in a rl situation, in Chi Cheng's position, I would have just encouraged/coaxed him to go and see his mother, making it so SW could find out about her sickness while CC also didn't break the promise to the mother.
The more messed up thing I still think is she doesn't realize how this is messing things up between them. Chi Cheng's value for her, as SW's mother (making him see her as his mother-in-law) is far outweighing her value for Chi Cheng, who she just sees as her son's kind friend. It puts a different spin on the dynamic of things.
Over all, yes, just our opinions, the show will play out as it will, regardless of what we say or feel! :D

Even if you say all that, some people will still choose to keep a secret because different people will be able to carry a different level of burden (or not) or will feel different things in that scenario are important (or not), etc. Obligation (when discussing family and emotion) is relative to circumstance and consequence, there is nothing binding anyone to do this or that, people will choose what they think is best at the time. It is what it is. Chi Cheng and SW's mother are choosing what they think is best.

I disagree, because this depends very much on different people. Not all people will react to this situation the same way. For CC, he obvs thinks he's being loyal to his mother-in-law and protecting SW by taking on this burden, he also seems to have hope he can find her better treatment to extend her life (as we saw him asking the doctor) probably so he can give SW good news and not bad news. SW's mum thinks she's protecting SW and she thinks CC is just a good friend who can help her protect her son. This kind of situation (and variations of it) happens to some people, so it's not farfetched.
But yes, coaxing SW to go and see his mother on his own, would more naturally solve this issue.

Just a thought about the situation with Chi Cheng keeping SW's mother's illness a secret at her request. I see all the discussion here, but one thing I think is also a factor in her asking him to keep it from SW is because she has no clue about the extent of their relationship. She just thinks CC and SW are good friends and that CC is just a good guy (as she's said before about him), she likely thinks CC and SW have separate lives back in the city and don't even see each other so much, and that SW is busy with work and she doesn't want to interfere with his progress. She just thinks CC is a rich friend who has a lot of free time and no emotional investment, he's just 'being a good friend', she has no idea about what is going on with them and that she's causing secrets to be kept between them and creating problems and pressure in their relationship.
If she knew they were a couple (and accepted that they were a couple) then I think she would be much less likely to ask CC to lie for her, based on her personality too, I don't think she'd ask him to keep it such a secret for her.
As for how to handle this on CC's side, I think he's not wrong for choosing to respect her request but, if it were not a pre-written scenario in a novel, I do think he could navigate this situation by simply coaxing SW to go and visit his mother, SW is smart, he wouldn't take long to see that something isn't right with his mum. That would solve the problem without revealing their relationship to her or breaking his promise to not tell SW.

Yep, but also those two characters lack presence/aura, especially WZ, he looks very generic. When they decided to cast a 'manly/masculine' character for WZ they must have just thought 'muscles' because both CC and CY are 'manly' just fine, but they're tall and thin, not muscular like 'ripped' which I think this WZ is probably under his knitted sleeveless vest and shorts combo π
