no annoying persistent characters (the exes appear but only for a couple of scenes each and were told to basically f-off).

This is the first time I'm truly enjoying a historical drama (and I tried to watch many highly rated ones), even subplots, side characters, political intrigues: everything is interesting and engaging, no need to fast forward empty and repeating dialogs. Wow.

First of all, I would find it really weird to suddenly be in a 10 years old relationship without living through it. Not the same, even if there are memories.
But, assuming it's fine, after the first change no one is dead, it's just a friendship that got broken. For me it's not worth risking going back in time and causing yet another unpredictable change. If, on the other hand, the friend died, then yes.

I must say, when I read the novel (after the first week of airing) I started enjoying the drama even more. Especially the gaming parts stopped being so confusing and started making sense, plus the translation had some explanatory notes here and there (like about the meanings of names, or the Jade Rabbit rover story). And since it is moved to screen almost word to word, it wasn't confusing.

I'm just rewatching eps 13-14 over every day to keep my spirit up

Wan Peng acts exactly the same as in Meeting You... I do like this kind of character but it's just weird, I keep having flashbacks all the time.
