I had the same thought - that the empress dowager was the mastermind behind the framing of the Di family. I think she was jealous because the founding emperor, her husband was so close to Di Shengtian and she was always left behind, waiting.

I expect her to at least dig into the truth. Everyone says that there is no way the Di family could be traitors so Anning with her position could at least find out the truth, and use it against her father to make Anle's life easier. She may not be able to take revenge but she could use it as leverage.
Novel readers, does it seem like Anning's character was watered down in the show? I feel that she is there just to remind everyone how the Han family should feel guilty about the Di family. Her introduction was great but since then, we just watch her wallow in pity and guilt.
I wouldn't recommend this show but it is one of the few shows that I watched to the end despite a badly written script with a messy plotline and extremely stupid protagonist characters.
The villains kept winning which was annoying as heck especially when the easy wins were due to the lack of brain cells among the good guys.
The romance was not all that great, but I like the visuals of Xu Kai and Guli together. They may not have the most amazing chemistry, but I did enjoy the sweetness of their scenes.
Yet, I felt compelled to finish this drama which was why I gave it a decent rating. Somehow it did not feel that the 30-plus hours I spent watching was a loss. At least the ending was better than most of the recent dramas. It was conclusive and happy for some.
