Many of those who read this comment section probably think this drama is universally not liked and is a flop.…
LOL
It's just not liked on MDL, we are a special case. I value MDL review/comments more than some outside statistics.
And on MDL, everything you have on that list of Netflix Kdrama shows are ranked higher than the king. Not sure about the last 2, but the first 8 for sure.
And your comparing Goblin? A show that was produced in 2016? Your reaching a bit to prove a point don't you think.
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
Whatever. I'm kinda over this whole thing. You got your opinion, and I got mine. I'm not convinced with your explanations and think your wrong, and I think i'm right.
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
121 is the second time it happens. And according to your theory that is the second prime number. But it's actually the fifth time it happened based on your theory, but Lee gon pretty much says, it's the second time it happens. So you and lee gon are contradicting yourselves.
Nope, Lee Gon will die way before it reaches infinity, and when he dies the flute goes bye bye, and thus time freezes will stop happening. Nice try though LOL! On the flip side, lee lim will also die of old age way before it reaches infinity as well. In fact, by the time they both die, time freeze will only be 6 months, based on your logic.
So 6 months is not equal infinity. Math is fun right :)
I don't think your even reading my explanations, this is a waste of time LOL,, let me know if you have a better theory, in the meantime i'm out of this convo, nice chatting Magnolia :)
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
1. When lee gon said second, he meant literally the second time it happened. As in the park was the first time, and the 121 seconds is the second time. I mean it's pretty clear from dialogue. Or did lee min ho screw up again? So based on your theory, second should be the second prime number, not the fifth, since your saying the 62nd prime number and the 62nd time are parallel. So this alone, makes lee gon a bad mathematician.
2. Ugh, lol, you just don't get it. Didn't I already give so many examples... anyway, I won't argue with you on this anymore, agree to disagree.
But out of courtesy, let me play along with you for a while...
The fact of the matter, lee gon used the whole multiplier and compounding theory to add dramatic effect that time will stand still forever pretty soon. But if really get down to it, you will find it quite laughable.
The 550th prime number is 3,989, which means after the 550th time they use the time gate, time will freeze for 6 months. But for time to stand still this long, he would need to use the time gate once every day for 1 year and 6 months.
Let's do some further dissection. Using your theory, let us study some more. Let's assume, lee gon never gets the flute from lee lim, and the flute stays broken in half and time stops happen continually. We have seen when lee rim dies, the flute disappears, so we can assume when lee gon dies, his flute will disappear.
So lee gon is 28 years old, and let's assume he lives to be a 110 years old. that is 82 years. So we know that 550th prime numbers gives us 6 months time freeze, assuming he uses it everyday one time. And we know that he can still age in the real world.
So let's add up all the time that was frozen. if you add the seconds starting from 4, all the way to 6 months. You actually get 82 years. Which means, by the time that time is stopping 6 months, lee gon would already be dead by the 550th time.
Now, I know your going to say, well lee gon is going to stay in the time gate world to slow down his aging. Ok. So instead of the 550th time, it will be a bit higher. As you said, things in the time gate is 60 times slower. So in the time gate world, he will be age 110 at approximately (82 x 60) 4,920 years in the real world, which is 82 years in the time gate world. The prime number for 4,920th prime number is 47,713. At this point, time will freeze for 72 years per.
So yeah, at no point in time will time stop forever as claimed by lee gon, it is mathematically impossible, even considering his and your flawed logic. But hey it sounds cool, and for dramatic effect, but mathematically impossible.
Oh oops, i'm not suppose to poke holes in your theories. My sincerest apologies!
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
Not sure if your trying to defend the show, or finding more math mistakes, but you found another one. Ugh, i'm getting kind of tired giving you free math lessons. But here we go again...
1. As you say, as mentioned in ep 5, 1 min in gate is 1 hour in real world. In ep 14 he has to travel 26 years to get to 2020. Roughly 4 months, according to him, inside time gate world. Ok let's use an oft used mathematical process called ratio and proportion. What do we know we know as you said 1 minute in time gate world = 60 minutes in real time. So the equation on the left side is 1/60. While the right side of the equation is x/26 years. But since we are using minutes, we need to convert 26 years into minutes, which comes out with 13,665,600 minutes. So the right side of the equation is x/13,665,600 minutes. Then we solve.
13,665,600 x 1 = 60 times X
13,665,600/60 = X
X = 227,760 minutes
Now we convert the minutes to months.
Answer is exactly 5 months, 5 days and 23 hours. Hardly roughly 4 months. He was off by a lot in his calculations, which is kinda sad, since he's suppose to be a mathematician.
I won't even factor in the number of times he goes in and out to "guide" tae eul to the right path, nor will I even consider how he survives 4 months in the time space world without food, water, going to washroom and etc... let's keep it simplistic.
I'm starting to think that lee gon isn't a very good mathematician. But thanks for showing another mathematical failure on lee gon's part, I completely missed this one.
Every wonder why there are balloons in the time gate world. It's because time is suppose to stand still in the time gate and they act as reference to remind the viewers of that, that is why the gun of tae eul was not supposed to work. But as soon as the flute was made whole, and lee gon defeated lee lim, the balloons start moving, so time isn't standing still anymore, and thus the time gate world isn't going to slow aging anymore.
Like I said, once the flute was made whole, time did not stand still anymore, and thus aging is not suppose to slow down anymore. There's nothing to support that time should still be slowing down. In fact, if time is still suppose to slow down in the time gate, time should stop whenever they land somewhere, which it doesn't seem to indicate at all. Once the flute was made whole, the whole time stop, time slowing down also stopped happening. But sure if you want to use your imagination to think that they can live 3,000 years in the time gate world, then more power to you.
That is the translation from netflix, and the translation on google translate. Sounds pretty much the same to me. So it's the right translation.
And lee min ho did say multiply, square root, and prime numbers.
Then he says, "at this rate, time will stop for a whole day the 62nd time it happens". The connotation of at this rate, means there is an acceleration of time freeze that is being compounded by multipliers.
"There will come a moment, when the world both Tae-Eul's and mine will stop forever". Once again, showing compounding time freezes. Science is rooted in logic, you can't just come up with random numbers, which in the end prime numbers are. There is no pattern in prime numbers, nor do they represent some scientific theory. They are just simply numbers that only has a factor of 1 and itself. When a car accelerates, it goes on a compounding velocity. It can't increase by 5, then increase by 2, then increase by 13 the way prime numbers do, it's a gradual, compounding increase in speed.
Look at this 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,18,23,29, 31 the prime number list.
Have you ever seen momentum work like this? from 1 to 2 to 2 to 4 then back to 2? That is not how science works, imagine throwing a ball as hard as you can and it's slowing down, then speeding up, then slowing down before it reaches the target. Aside from creative writing classes, maybe take up some science courses too.
As much fun as it is to argue logical facts with a creative writer such as yourself, I think we can end here.
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
did he also make a mistake in saying "multiply"
You still didn't answer my question of how merely getting squares of the prime numbers = compounding time freezes? And I'm guessing your just going to ignore all my examples and explanation. LOL, what a waste of my time to write all of that...
So let's ignore the whole dialogue, and lee gon's theory and just use yours then, gotcha! Because it's a slip on lee min ho's part or script or netflix translation, because you know squaring prime numbers is a valid time stop theory. Gotcha!
Teacher: Magnolia Cream how did you get this answer, you didn't show your work, plus it's the wrong answer...
Magnolia Cream: Gotta use your imagination teacher! If you let your imagination wild, you'll see the truth!
Good thing we have such a smart person explaining these things, what would we do without your fantastic, logical explanation, LOL!.
Any mathematician, would laugh at lee gon's theory, and that's a fact.
Like I said, his theory sounds cool in the show, and it's dramatic. But mathematically and scientifically very flawed. Thus a plot hole, that is never resolved and ignored in the ending episodes.
The emotions between them started earlier. But i'm not surprised that we are given only 2 episodes left for actual…
oh wtf is that LOL, people are crazy!
I mean, I guess i'm just speaking about myself then LOL. But yeah, I don't do much idol/actor worship, so I can review a drama regardless of the star power/controversy it is mired in.
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
1. But time flows in the time gate, why would you assume time is moving very slow? Then the bullet that hits lee lim should have moved very slow, if you think time moves that slow for them to age of 5,000 or more. That doesn't compute, even if use my imagination. FYI, using ones imagination still needs to follow some sort of logic. You can't just make up numbers and make up logic that don't make sense, that is not what imagination is all about.
2. and 3. So basically what i'm getting here, is you found some parts to be boring, so you had to use your imagination to liven it up? Ok... not sure what to say about this... I mean a show that requires it's viewers to expend so much imaginative effort... yeah 10/10 indeed...
I've got in my hand the best script in the world. A blank piece of paper, go wild!
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
they are talking about square root not square in lee gon's explanation, and they definitely multiplying the numbers. Also, he explicitly says, and we also know as viewers, the second time is 121 seconds, so how did you jump that 121 is the fifth time?
And if we are just squaring the prime numbers, and not actually multiplying, then mathematically and scientifically the amount of time does not compound, thus the time freezes should not increase.
I don't understand what you are not getting here. Succession of prime numbers does not equate to a compounding number, but merely a succession of numbers. Is this part hard to understand? I mean, I get your defending the show and the math, but at least come up with a logical explanation.
Look at the logic. Lee gon is saying time is increasing multiplicity, which means each time freeze gets multiplied by something. And in this case he says the square root or square of the prime numbers. So basically if time stops for 1 second, the next time should be bigger. And the 3rd time it stops will be based on the 2nd time it stops, and the 5th time is based on the 4th time it stops. You see, the increasing time stops is supposed to be based on the number preceding it. This is the paper trail that is needed for a compounding time freeze theory.
Let's talk about something in real life terms. You know mortgages right? imagine if you had a mortgage, and I said your monthly payments are $2 a month, but it will increase by 2% per month. Which means by the 12th month, you are paying $2.52 after 12 months. As you see this is called compounding interest, which means every month your payment increases. And after a certain time, let's say the 62nd month, your mortgage is probably some high number is like $50 or something. That is how compounding interest, or in this case, time freezes works.
For 121 seconds to become 85,849, there has to be a mathematical paper trail. You can't just say well i'm squaring all the prime numbers. That doesn't make any logical sense at all, as there is no multiplicity nor is there any compounding being done. SO, if no compounding is being done, time stops should be consistently 121 seconds every time.
It's like saying 1 x 6 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 10 = 86,544 seconds. Where is the math here? I mean the prime numbers don't even follow any pattern.
Like try to argue based on logic, and not just trying to fit your narrative. Like I said, if you can show me a compounding/multiplicity theory that works, then i'm all ears, and would be grateful. But otherwise, this is just one ginormous plot hole that was covered up in the ending episodes. Like i appreciate your imaginative, and like to use your imagination, but this is math, it's a technical subject, not creative writing 101.
Imagine this...
Banker: "Sir you owed us $85,000 for your 62nd payment" Me: "Wait, I only borrowed $20,000 for my mortgage and my 1st payment was only $121, how did you get such a big number" Banker: "Well we just started squaring prime numbers each month" Me: "WTF!"
The emotions between them started earlier. But i'm not surprised that we are given only 2 episodes left for actual…
Kdrama watchers have matured, and like myself are in the 25-40 year old range probably. So I think they still would have criticized the story regardless of controversies.
Plus the idol worship on actor/actresses are in the decline, so people don't blindly watch a show for a certain actors/actresses. Don't get me wrong the stans are still there, but I think it's less than before.
I'm not sure, this is based on a manhwa or web series is it not? I don't think they can change the story that much from source material, right?
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
You've mentioned that sq root of 293 is 17.117, which you say is roughly 1 day, it's not though. 17.11/24 = 71% of 24 hours, which actually equates to 61,344 seconds, which is not 86,400 (24 Hours/1 Day) seconds.
Now using your logic, 121 second, he clearly says happens the second time. So 1.732 is the sq rt of 3, and 1.732/24 = 7.2% of 86,400 seconds or 6,235 seconds. So using your logic, the second time should be 6,235 seconds and not 121 as he says.
Like I said, no matter how much math I tried to throw at this, it didn't work, and your not even doing it properly, as he clearly says he MULTIPLIES the time stop against the prime number.
But nice try anyway, even I could not figure out how they got their math. I'm not even a math major or anything, but I can certainly do simple arithmetic.
The only way the numbers make any sense, is that they just randomly Squared, rather than sq root of the prime numbers. And they did it randomly, and not in sequence. And some of the numbers don't even correspond to this theory. Plus there would be no multiplicity in it anymore, which mean time stops would not be increasing, but it did.
I think, someone on the PD team just whipped out their iphone and just started chucking out random numbers. But hey, it's fantasy genre, so the numbers don't need to make sense I guess.
Disappointing too, it would not have taken much effort for them to write the math out properly, I guess it wasn't as dramatic? Math is boring I guess. You can defend the smartness of the show, but wrong math is wrong math.
If you like a drama that challenges you to think, give it a try
1. You only gain eternal life, if you live in the world where time stops. Otherwise if you are really eternal, lee gon and tae eul would not have shown to be growing old in the end. In fact the whole concept of eternal life didn't make sense, since once the flute was made whole, time did not stop in that middle world anymore. Thanks for reminding me of this plot hole which I did not see before.
2. I highly doubt this will get a second season. LG being the savior actually is a "twist" that has been used in many many time travel stories, it was hardly unique. I've seen it done better in other stories as well that made more sense.
3. tae eul and lee gon from the looks of it, did not have children. also it wouldn't make sense it's the son of theirs. The writer, in her want to make the story for complicated, made too many mistakes in her writing that left too many people dissatisfied. You have an active imagination, that's good, you'll need it when your watching the king.
You know what I think is unintentionally really funny about this show? The FL kisses the ML on his cheek already…
I think for me at least, a reason it may have taken too long to bond are two things.
1. Subconsciously DH met SB when she was a HS, so he still kinda sees her as this really young lady, who in his mind is probably still immature. For some men, it takes some internalizing to date someone substantially younger than them. Of course there are also men, who only date those who are far younger than them.
2. SB is an employee, so technically there is also that subconscious barrier to not want to date a coworker or an employee. It's like a professionalism thing.
3. DH is just a good guy, so he knew he was still with super toxic YJ, and he would feel guilty if he even considered it.
But in the end, DH saw the good in SB and her maturity, and everything fell in place, albeit late.
This is really disappointing. It's making me sad. Only 2 episodes left for their romantic love story. I'm sure…
The emotions between them started earlier. But i'm not surprised that we are given only 2 episodes left for actual proper romance.
It's kind of a Kdrama formula though, some of them don't even get a first kiss until the last episode. I don't know if it's a strategy to keep people interested till the end or not.
no, it's not. people who live in homogeneous societies are used to seeing only one kind of people and cannot distinguished…
I mean people in Britain get offended when they are called scottish or irish. Or people in Australia when they are called Kiwi's (New Zealand nickname).
And Japanese get offended when they are called korean, or chinese and etc... When you meet an Asian, do you just say, oh your from China right? We don't because that's offensive. Even though we can't recognize the difference of Chinese vs Taiwainese, Korean vs Japanese, Indonesian vs Malaysian, Indian vs Pakistan, we should never assume, much less make a statement that they all look the same.
Like i've been mistaken for Japanese due to my pearl white skin, even though i'm chinese, and it makes me uncomfortable when it happens. Not that I have anything against Japanese, but rather I am proud of my culture. So someone saying all Koreans look alike, is very dangerously close to saying all Asians look alike, which I think is really wrong.
Yup! only a couple more eps left, how can we not finish it. Hopefully everyone is satisfied with the ending.
It's just not liked on MDL, we are a special case. I value MDL review/comments more than some outside statistics.

Banker: "Sir you owed us $85,000 for your 62nd payment"
Me: "Wait, I only borrowed $20,000 for my mortgage and my 1st payment was only $121, how did you get such a big number"
Banker: "Well we just started squaring prime numbers each month"
Me: "WTF!"
4. I may check out Primer then.
It's kind of a Kdrama formula though, some of them don't even get a first kiss until the last episode. I don't know if it's a strategy to keep people interested till the end or not.
@Jackie the Penguin Never said that. Bye

It is, if you plan to pay attention to details. If you are looking for something to watch with your brain off, is not for you.
LOL! you like to contradict yourself all the time don't you?
