They also chopped this drama up and reassembled it. No wonder it is now so disjointed like a Frankenstein. :(
Speaking of director's cuts, The Royal Nirvana Special just finished airing with 12 episodes. I didn't follow the series but I heard that it's supposed to tie up loose ends from the original run. Maybe we'll see more "directors' cuts specials" next year lol

Yup same here. Along with the fillers, they cut out the important details linking the story together. It's funny that this drama had a huge margin of episode cuts - from 70 to 36. Other dramas weren't so drastic.
Hmm I was about to recomment 'The Promise of Chang’an ' to you with all smart characters but then ... I read…
Season 4 is out? I managed to find seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime and Google Play so will watch when I can finally clear my Asian list. King of the High Castle, is that a new drama? I remember watching The Man in the High Castle though, which is pretty similar-sounding. I'm currently following Promise of Chang'an just to see if the ending will be different from the source material, plus it's the only "serious historical" available at the moment.

I think only this year's productions moving forward would have better editing and flow, meaning those airing next year onwards (as far as long-drawn series are concerned). All these 2018-2019 productions with more than 60 episodes are suddenly forced to cut down for airing this year making everything disjointed. It's really annoying for the viewers.
After 5 episodes, the storyline is getting a bit clearer now. This series, in addition to what the synopsis says, is also about mystery solving and it seems like there will be different case-solving arcs throughout. From the opening credits and the progress so far, looks like there will be some romance but whether or not it's only a side plot remains to be seen. I think the story is slowly picking up pace after a slow-burn beginning,
Lol, it's a Cantonese term that's widely used in HK, Malaysia and Singapore, as well as by the Cantonese community around the world. Let me share some links for you to learn the meaning:
As depressing as it may get, I'm still hopeful for a happy ending because there's no "tragedy" tag here. Also,…
I think it's because the plot is based on the novel which supposedly has a happy ending. So far the story seems to be faithful to the book, I've been told.
How manny people come here after love of redemption.
This show was already on my plan to watch list earlier on. After L&R, most of us went for fluffy romance like Maiden Holmes etc. And then Cheng Yi fans went to Promise of Chang'an.
Haha :D Perfect cure for depression! There's anther show, no angst and no chills, only humour (and utter weirdness) - The School Nurse Files. But it's K-drama though.
