I'm not sure either because I didn't get the chance to watch the fan special alternate endings. I only watched the official ending on episode 48. I tried to look for the extra episodes but couldn't find them. But you are right, one is with happy ending and the other is with sad/ open ending.

I feel you :) Yup, there's usually only 1 truly epic xianxia romance drama per year. I don't think there's any more for the rest of 2020, hopefully we get another one next year.
