You are right. This is most likely the reason. Viki's subs are usually much better at translating than what Huace provided.
A shame that this drama gets mediocre subs, because I'd love to have high quality subs for this drama. I can just imagine what beautiful lines they are actually speaking 😭

Just watched ep 26 with subs on viki and I really wish the translations would be better 😭 I'm thankful for all the subbers out there, but I'm not really satisfied by the quality of the translations, at least on viki. I can wait much longer for subs if I know that the subs are more accurate and better.
The conversations make 90% of this drama and even without Chinese knowledge I just know they have better or more beautiful conversations than what comes across.
For example user JulesL on MDL translated the confession scene once in the comment section here and it was so much better translated, which is such a bummer, because people won't know how beautiful it actually was, if they just read the subs on viki...

I'm actually quite sad about that. Why are the translations for Chinese dramas never that good than with Korean dramas?

I usually overlook bad subtitles in Chinese dramas and don't complain because I also was once a translator on viki, so I know how hard and time consuming it is... But this drama deserves so much better. I can't accept half-decent translations for this masterpiece. I really hope they review their subs on viki at some point. 😢

This is obviously not a drama for you. This is a character-driven drama. The skips won't make you connect with the characters and their stories.
I recommend you to watch other dramas and stop wasting your time :) Maybe you will be in the mood for this at another time.

The acting is superb so far, especially the ML. But I'm quite disturbed how they try to make the violent behaviour of ML "romantic" sometimes with the bright light and romance music in the bg... But it's not the first time this happens in Asian dramas, so I'm not surprised 😅 Can he please stop strangling and threatening her...
The ML is hot tho... no question 😅 I've already liked the actor in drama "Our Secret".

I'm on ep 3. The ML is dead serious about not being busted but has her name saved as Shen Man Ning on his phone?! Or did the translator made the mistake 😅

I think her being single all her life and a virgin is not unrealistic at all in her situation. She took care of her brother and niece all her life and was working non stop. Where in the world did she have the time to have some romance or be in a relationship? And she doesn't seem to be the type to have one night stands.
And the older you get the harder it is to find someone especially if you have a family situation like hers and with the high judgmental society South Korea still has.

Hairstyle seems to be popular... Dong Eun has the same hairstyle 😂

She's not my fave character, but I like her as well 😂 She has funny dynamics in the later episodes 😄 But yeah, she is quite immature for her age. I thought she is maybe 18/19 but turns out she is 24 😅

How is every character in this drama so likeable?! Everyone is so different and charming in their own ways. This writer really has a knack for writing beautiful characters and relationships! Even in Go Ahead. This is so rare to find and I'm so happy that I could cry.
Just finished ep 30 and this drama gets better with every episode! People complaining about 40 eps... but 40 episodes are just not enough for me!!! I'm saddened by the fact that we just have 10 eps left T-T
This drama is my remedy right now. I feel so connected to the characters and this village.

And after watching ep 29... how cute are Hong Dou's and Hong Mi's relationship? The most realistic portrayal of sisterhood that I've ever watched. I just love everyone so much! I wish I could write so poetically like Damai to express my feelings, but I'm just not capable of that lol

Yeah I still feel robbed of a reunion scene of them >_<

Oh my! I loved when they were talking on the phone in ep 28 and in Yunnan it was windy and at Hong Dou's place it was raining. So meaningful and well-written!
Because when they talked at the campfire what they would like to be after death Hong Dou said she wants to be the wind and Zhi Yao said he wants to be rain!

That's ridiculous. Can't "old" people have romantic scenes?
And she looks much younger than her actual age. People are too much on the internet and don't know how "old" people look like.

btw she had quite some romantic scenes and sexual tension in her previous drama "Lost" :P

Yes, but that was not the only reason that episode was so sad. She visited her best friend's parents and they had tearful conversations about Nan Xing :'(

Never seen anything other with Crystal Liu, so I don't know why she has so many dislikers... Is her acting not good in other dramas?

She's phenomenal in this one and I fell in love with her acting and ethereal beauty 😊

The pace of this drama is slow and there is a lot of focus on the villagers as well. But it's worth every minute. It's my fave airing drama at the moment and I'm sure it's gonna be one of my all-time faves as well. So yeah, highly recommended 😄

imo it's overall slapstick comedy. It's not my type of humor as well, but the story and acting is still good. And sometimes I even think it's funny. Watch further and see for yourself if u can overlook the slapstick comedy 😅
