She knew giving birth to a child in mortal realm meant draining her divine power? she told her son he needed her…
In ep 23, it was explained she did not know she was pregnant when BJS sealed her powers and left her in the mortal world. Because her powers were sealed when her son was born, he was unable to absorb her divine powers from her and he was born with a mortal body. She told her son when she gets her powers back in 3 years, she would take him to the Nine Heavens to gain Devine Powers but he died before that happened.
Is the fl strong fl? I want to start this but im curious
Yes, she is a strong female protagonist. She has been hiding her intelligence and strength to survive and to protect her sister while living under other people’s roof. They are basically homeless and penniless if not for the charity of others. They were able to make a decent life for themselves through their ingenuity and survival instincts. I finished Ep 12 and her flaming sword dance is just stunning. It reveals how she may have spent her childhood before her parents died. She has archery skills too. I can’t wait for further revelation of who she really is. I’m also guessing that she saved Lu Yun from drowning when they were kids.
Great minds think alike Wynndzofchange. I actually learned a lot about Chinese culture and its arts from watching Chinese dramas. Though I am of Chinese heritage, I was not born in China. At first, I didn’t know of the historical significance shown in the drama though I did know silk brocade was highly valued. After Frost-Elelweiss’s excellent research and reading the novel , I realized it’s not all fiction.
Many of these dramas touch on real events or personalities. For example, Under the Power, another of TSY’s dramas, the villain played by Han Dong is an actual despot that did a lot of damage to people and country.
Yeah I know that everyone is entitled to their opinions but I don't understand keeping saying how much you don't…
Agree with you but so annoying when anti fans think they can take over every minute.it’s worse when they end up attacking us for our opinions. Why would they post the same negative things over and slam others for responding? Makes no sense
ML and FL reconcile? Where did you mistake them to be at odds? Before YJL went to investigate in Nanzhao? That…
When I have more time, I am going to checkout your companion pieces on the dramas I have watch or will watch. Unfortunately, I only have a subscription on Vikki and they are slow in streaming the episodes so I end up watching the free mandarin episodes if I love the drama and can’t wait for Viki to stream. Watching the Mandarin version is not ideal because my mandarin is not very good but I make do.

There are some who are clearly anti fans of the actress and post negative comments of her consistently and even attack those who try to give another viewpoint to the female lead and are mean in their comments. Some dramas tend to get these toxic anti fans. I really don’t know why this is happening. It is annoying and negative to the point that I wonder if they get points for their negative postings or are they so in love with the male lead that they are jealous of the female lead and start attacking her? I am dumb founded…

Frost_Edelweiss, I just love, love , love your Brocade Odyssey Companion piece. Such a treasure trove of interesting annd wonderful information. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
For those who love this drama, do check out the postings by Frost_Edelweiss in her Brocade Odyssey Campanion Piece. It’s right after ‘Recommendations’ above. There is so much wonderful information about this drama, the Tang Dynasty and silk and brocade manufacture of the time. Of interest is that Nanzhou and Yizhou are real places and Prince Bai is fashioned after a real Prince of Nanzhou. And Nanchou did attack Youzhou. Link to Frost_Edelweiss companion section is below
Why r u so aggressive against JYY? Any specific reason?
Well, next time, just read through again before you response unkindly as this is a public forum. Believe me, I am not as delicate as you think but I am talking back when it’s warranted. In the past, I’d let it go, but after getting ‘beaten’ up in a forum where I wanted to be entertained, I am not ignoring it anymore. But I appreciate you owning up to your mistake
I also think there is a cultural divide. Some people forget the Chinese cultural aspects of this and that this…
Yes, Some of these dramas have fictional dynasties. There are some dramas where when I did a search, it says that the drama was set in fictional dynasties. Some characters in some of the historical dramas are real but some are not or are a composite of several characters.
Why r u so aggressive against JYY? Any specific reason?
Even if what you said happened in the drama, it’s your opinion that it is her ‘greatness ‘ that allowed her to do this and that she is a poor role model. .And i was merely saying it was beyond her control but instead you accused me and others of being a YJL hater. We are wondering why you automatically think we are JYL haters when we try to defend JYY? Now, that is a fact! You had asked us to explain so we did. So we are wondering where the aggression is coming from?
I read the novel and it provided a lot of insights into concubines and children of concubines. It’s really sad…
I understand where you’re coming from. For me, it’s a story more about how common people could have fared among the rich and powerful; a slice of life among the merchant class, with the understanding that it is fiction as well. To me, YJL is powerful in his own way- he used his innate intelligence, good upbringing as well as an honest and upright character to rise above what’s he’s been dealt. He is just a good person. Not like Zhao Xiu Yuan who is much worse in the novel. But the fact is both YJL and JYY persevered through hardship.
Her skill and knowledge to create red silk, and her talent and quick thinking during adverse situations She herself…
I re- read Lloudkat’s replies. She did not trashtalk YJL nor did I. Where did we trash talk YJL? Instead, you are trash talking JYY. I think most of us love both YJL and JYY and I’m one of them. I don’t think a person can truly enjoy a drama if one of the main protagonist is hated. I happen to enjoy this drama and took the trouble to read the novel. Also I like both main leads very much but I am not into worshipping them.
MDL viewers preferences are sometimes truly questionable. This drama is obviously rich in story (love, career,…
I also think there is a cultural divide. Some people forget the Chinese cultural aspects of this and that this is during the later Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).
