needed to come back here after watching this drama when it first come out because people on social media were…
Hmmm. I think it really boils down to their love language. It’s not because He Su Ye does things for her then he’s putting in the effort and she’s not.
He Su Ye’s love language, apart from quality time and physical touch, is acts of service. He loves doing things for Xifan, treating her so lovingly like she deserves. But do not forget that Xifan’s love languages, apart from quality time and physical touch, are gift giving and words of affirmation. She buys him flowers, gives him rings, and says beautiful things to him— mostly assurances about how he’s hers, that he’s no longer alone, and that he is loved— such things that He Su Ye hasn’t received/heard since his Mom died. Xi Fan definitely filled that hole in his heart. Of course, before they dated, Xifan was oblivious to her true feelings. She didn’t realize that he likes He Su Ye romantically, he merely regarded him as her friend, her confidante. Her past relationship was still looming over her, she wasn’t fully healed, that when it was clear that He Su Ye wanted more out of their friendship, she just couldn’t reciprocate yet that leaving was her best option.
Note that when Xifan finally realized that she’s healed enough to love again, she went all out. Even gifted He Su Ye a ring to fully claim him as hers, erasing whatever doubts he may have about her love for him (if there’s any, the guy was so down bad!!).
If we’re still keeping tabs, it’s actually Xifan who’s been putting the effort in making her love known— she expresses it in words and deeds. Note that it was always her who does it first— she was the first one to confess, not just once but twice!, she was even the one to ask her out, and she’s the one who proposed! All of these made He Su Ye filled so love that his abandonment issues were far gone, he even was confident enough to let Xifan study abroad for how ever long she needs as he knows she’ll always come back to be with him. 🌸
Episode 13 and not liking FL very much, she knew she wanted to go abroad for studies, and yet became close to…
The thing is, she didn’t realize she was already falling in love. She merely regarded him as a friend. Note that he was the only one she’s comfortable talking about her inner struggles because the people around her already had their biases about her life (parents wanted her to continue her ties with Yan Heng and the hotel as they thought this was the more stable route and she’s not getting any younger; her best friends are also Yan Heng’s friends that she’s not comfortable talking about specific details about how he’s badly treating her, and thus confirming how they’ve always viewed him as the bad guy in the relationship).
He Su Ye offered her a world where she can just be herself, free to talk about her views, thoughts, and even plans of the future. Her confidante. It was only months later when she realized that she’s actually like him romantically and if not for the alcohol, she would have continued ignoring her feelings as the thought of a long distance relationship is still traumatic for her.
Some of his fans don’t like her as there are hints that they could be secretly dating.
Riiight? Notice his interviews with her too, they’re very comfortable and can express their thoughts well. I also enjoy their bickering off screen, and how they challenge each other’s opinions but still being respectful. Plus the way Linghe had all these bold ideas for their intimate and romantic scenes was also a plus. As a third person, it’s maybe because Linghe somehow found in Xu Ruohan a match in these scenes, she can keep up with the intimacy level he can put out for said scenes, which is rare in C-drama world.
Dir. Randy Che was a cinematographer for over a decade before transitioning to a directorial role, so that explains why the cinematography here is top-tier 😍
How is this couple not in the top 5 in the list of BEST CHEMISTRY Couples of Chinese dramas ? They are literally…
This couple for me is still the only one I’ve seen who has great romantic chemistry. Their intimate scenes felt like watching real couples serving 🔥🔥🔥 No awkward moment at all, and didn’t even feel rehearsed.
Yeah, actually it’s really hard to rely on Netflix and WeTV for translations so if the drama is on iQIYI, I built the habit of watching it there first then just rewatch on other platforms.
I absolutely loveeee this drama, first cdrama that has hooked me whilst airing. Now im here waiting for 2 episodes…
same! This is the first c-drama I’ve ever watched since it got released, and had been religiously waiting for its episodes daily. This fan girl life is not easyyyy 😭
I find myself rewatching THE BEST THING in between to get over the long wait.
As a native Mandarin speaker, I think his Mandarin is very standard and doesn’t have any noticeable regional…
I understand. The thing with this theory though is that Pursuit of Jade team had a whole year to arrange their schedule with Linghe for dubbing. Linghe is quite known to have worked hard to finally dub himself in his projects. While his projects since PoJ maybe scheduled one after the other, no one’s stopping his agency to schedule dubbing sessions fo PoJ if indeed the production demanded for it. That’s what they do— scheduling work properly as all of them would benefit.
Plus he’s been in Hengdian since filming PoJ, dubbing would have been easier logictically. And this is why I feel that choosing a voice actor this time was deliberate from the production’s side. Not saying that Linghe’s voice isn’t ideal, but voice acting is a totally different skillset that even Linghe himself has admitted that he would require more practice to at least hone the craft.

Sorry I worded thst poorly. He’s from Jiangsu Province so his native tongue is their dialect there. He would be taught Mandarin growing up but can’t really call it native tongue. Plus his pronunciation and tone would be different from that of the standard Mandarin that’s used for TV unless he’d work so hard to perfect it.
don't know why ml who already has god gifted voices are being dubbed on. This happend in HDY with cheng lei and…
Director’s preference. Also, Linghe isn’t a native Mandarin speaker so perhaps the Director specifically wants to hear the standard Mandarin and a voice actor might have sounded better than Linghe.
