It was clear since Day 1 where his loyalty lies: to Pyeonggang only. Yes, he loves his tribe but he is willing…
But you know what? Despite all this, Geon knew that the Princess would understand him the most. Hence, he volunteered as an envoy. It would serve him a purpose either way: If he’d get accepted, he’ll be able to somehow mend his relationship with PG and the Crown Prince who is now the king. If he’d be ordered to die, then his grief and sorrow will end.
You see, at this point, Geon no longer cared. He’s basically dead.
Why is everyone surprised about Go Geon in ep 18 finale?*spoiler in the comments
It was clear since Day 1 where his loyalty lies: to Pyeonggang only. Yes, he loves his tribe but he is willing to do everything to balance all the badges he has under his name and be with Pyeonggang. He loved her since they were kids. He grew up as a royal and everyone in the kingdom expected them to marry each other in the future.
And you expect him to easily move on from that love, dream, future— just because of Mo Yong??
No offense but no matter how great Mo Yong is, Pyeonggang cannot be easily forgotten by a man who has been in love with her for so long. Geon’s love for her is pure, very pure to the extent that he thought all the decades of strife between the two tribes could be mended through his “Master Plan”, and that is their marriage. That his “master plan” will solve everything and will lead Goguryeo to great heights. But of course, we knew what happened to that plan. It initially failed due to Pyeonggang’s rejection. Still, Geon was hopeful. His plan will still work, he’ll make sure of it.
Mo Yong came to him at a perfect time: when he needed to heal from Pyeonggang. He needed someone to help him mend his broken heart. But his cunning self also couldn’t resist to take advantage of Mo Yong. Mo Yong knew this that’s why she was very apprehensive initially to give her love to Geon. But all her resistance and apprehensions vanished as she fell head over heels for him.
Geon also loved Mo Yong. There’s no doubt to that. But it wasn’t enough to make him forget about his love for Pyeonggang and for him to throw away his master plan.
WHY WAS GEON WASTING AWAY IN SILLA? The GeonYong stans resent Geon for being so ungrateful to Mo Yong after rescuing him that night. But remember that to an empire’s loyal generals like Go Geon, they’d rather die than live as a traitor to their own country. His family may have usurped the throne but they only did it for their beloved Goguryeo. Yes, they may have not been loyal to the royal family but they have always been loyal to the empire. Rescuing him from his possible end, only to become a traitor of the empire his family valued and protected for years, is death in itself. Mo Yong failed to include that in her calculations when she decided to save him. Or, she knew it all along but got blinded for her love for Geon. We cannot blame her. We cannot just expect someone to leave her loved one to die.
However, Geon’s ego couldn’t take it. Precisely why he couldn’t love Mo Yong anymore even if he wanted to because she took away his honor— the only thing he’s left with. Mo Yong even made their entire Gyeru tribe be branded as traitors. Remember, only Mo Yong has teamed up with the assassins. Not the Gyeru tribe. Gochuga made sure that he’ll usurp the throne with his own hands, as legitimately as possible.
But since Mo Yong rescued Geon and brought him to Silla, the people Goguryeo would naturally think it was as if Gyeru tribe planned this all along with Silla. Hence, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the whole Gyeru tribe was annihilated for betraying the empire. Geon was born to protect the tribe after his father. He was willing to do so... and yet Mo Yong took that away from him. Imagine waking up alive but in the enemy’s empire and being hopeless about the situation. Although there is gratitude in you heart for the second chance at life, the pain of of what was lost weighs heavier.
His tribe could have been still alive if not for Mo Yong. They could have only been stripped off of riches and become slaves, but no, MY’s plan of saving him killed his whole tribe and family. He has no one else left now. Hence, his grief... his resentment... his anger towards Mo Yong. She tricked him. Making him resent even more the fact that he tried to love her.
Yeah. They also cut dajung doing blackpink dance and daeyoung singing to an old song whilst fixing washing machine…
Now I have this dilemma of whether to rewatch this or not. Perhaps not too soon as I don’t have the luxury of time at the moment. Makes me more infuriated with Netflix. They should try harder, even just with the translation/subbing part.
Not sure about drama, but Han Ji Min was in several movies that totally different style. For example Two Lights…
Thank you but it’s not about the style or genre of the project, for that matter. It’s about her acting delivery, her technique, her style. It seems that she has a hard time delineating her characters from each other. She uses the same approach each time. Anyway, this could be considered as nitpicking by someone who has seen her in several projects. I know how difficult it is to be like Yoo Ah In who effortlessly transforms from one project to another.
Can anyone tell me how he became younger? Was it coz of that old man?
Yup, it’s because of that old man in the first episode(and that episode where Dajung helped him move his cart). It’s implied that he’s a deity/God. Kind of like the ones in Goblin who co-mingles with the humans.
I came back here after comparing the versions from Netflix vs Viu. As usual, I’m disappointed with the Netflix version as it did not only fail to sub beyond the surface (korean nuances and jokes translations were meh, didn”t even bother subbing the episode titles), it also cut some important scenes. One example is when young Daeyoung sang to a sleepy young Dajung over the phone as the latter’s condition for her to rise up from bed.
The execution was okay, the actors were great, but this season felt like a whole different drama. Had this not been introduced as a sequel to THE phenomenal Love Alarm (2019), I would have not set my expectation high, only to be let down big time.
Could it be because the director changed? This new guy/girl really had a different take and interpretation of the story with the previous director. Even the filming style, cinematography, and scoring that we really loved during the previous season which were even considered the catalyst to the success of it, was not followed through properly here. This sequel felt so underwhelming in a lot of ways.
Now, regarding the script. I understand that the main author of the webtoon already decided the endgame, but making or watching it in live-action just wasn’t convincing enough. Not even to me who understands Jojo’s plight and the choices she’s made thus far. Here, her relationship with Hyeyoung just felt too contrived and Sunoh was deliberately written to be more rude and emotionally challenged than he was 5 years before. If this was the writer’s intention then he/she nailed it, at the expense of good storytelling.
Nonetheless, this is still a pretty enjoyable end to the great Love Alarm story. But I definitely prefer the first season more in terms of filming technique. That was really a very good highschool drama.
Gosh, my heart is going to be in all sorts of emotions next week! Gotta prepare for the worst. This drama truly has managed to surprise me in the most delightful ways possible. Last 2 weeks!!! T____T
One of the better dramas that is currently on air but this comment section is more quiet than a convent on a weekday…
Hahaha! I laughed more than I should. I have to confess that me and my girls are kinda part of the silent supporters as none of us are big on the new-generation-kind-of-way in showing support where it involves a touch of marketing and promotion. We, the seemingly older folks, just watch legally on the official distributors and then gosh over it in the confines of our private messengers.
Will surely try to form the habit of leaving comments here and there to intrigue others.
Ik, just think about this: when the series was filmed, she was 15 and he was 29. That's a 14 year difference and…
You are right, it supposedly shouldn’t be an issue like how Kim So Hyun can easily film with co-stars more than a decade older than her. But in this drama, it’s very obvious how Kim Saeron is quite uncomfortable with the setup, although she openly states she’s fine. She also couldn’t deliver maturely some scenes as needed, which shows how she’s too young for the role. Nonetheless, this drama is good and enjoyable but it felt, at least to me, like it’s a drama between a brother and sister. They just exuded such vibe.
Thank God I'm not the only one here who feels like this. I feel like I've wasted my time watching this drama,…
IKR? The comments and reviews here made me think that perhaps I’m just too negative to catch on the humor and the fun side of this drama. I really did not enjoy any of that.
Decided to watch his for Holy Week and it has been the best decision ever! Made me reflect a lot about the life I’ve lived/been living and my relationship with the people around me, especially my parents. My personality is similar to Hong Dae Young/Ko Woo Young’s that I felt like every scene is for me.
Kudos to the team, especially to the writers, casts, director, and LEE DO HYUN! This young actor really has been stellar in his performance here. You have a very bright future in the acting industry, Do Hyun-a! Makes me feel so proud as I first noticed (and crushed on) him in Still 17.
Can someone please clarify, is this postponed or cancelled? Very sorry for the production team .
Initially, the production announced they’ll be postponing the next episodes to edit their content. But just now, they announced that they’ll be cancelling the entire show and will be busy contacting the actors regarding the cancellation. T_T
