I spot three actors from My Dear Guardian in this drama.

1. Fu Cheng Peng -- Brother He, He Wu.. he played a high ranking police officer in My Dear Guardian, even went undercover as a criminal.

2. Zhao Xun -- The serial killer introduced in ep 8. The actor played an army officer in My Dear Guardian, he also goes undercover with Fu Cheng Peng's character. It's funny both actors are playing the bad guys in this drama. They were phenomenal as undercover agents in My Dear Guardian.

3. Xu Hong Hao -- Chief Tan, FL's teacher in both the dramas lol.

His hair as Bai Jue in the first 16 episodes was indeed not ideal, I agree.

FIYS and ALP aired at the same time. At that time, I was eagerly waiting for FIYS cause I loved the novel, so I decided to watch it live and keep ALP on hold until all episodes are up.
I absolutely loved FIYS, and I'm also glad I waited until all episodes of ALP were up before binge-watching it. ALP officially became my #1 c-drama, not just Xu Kai's #1.

If you are looking for another romance drama of Xu Kai, I suggest Wonderland of Love.

Btw, I noticed you have watched The Last Immortal.. then you should know, Bai Jue and Shang Gu (ML and FL of ALP) are parents of Yuan Qi (ML of TLI).
The stories are connected in the novel, but the dramas were made as standalones.

I meant, the novel does not open with Bai Jue and Shang Gu, it opens with Hou Chi and Qing Mu.

Bai Jue and Shang Gu's story is told in flashbacks in the novel, whereas the drama opened with Shang Gu and Bai Jue, so basically, going by the novel, the story starts at episode 16-17, and the first 16 episodes are told in flashbacks in the novel.

Hope you will like it. But again, no pressure, it's alright if you don't. Not everyone has same taste, and it is understandable if you cannot get into it.
I have also found it hard to get into a few incredibly popular dramas.

She's a movie actress who won best actress award at a very young age. Usually movie stars don't star in tv dramas, so it is quite rare that we get to see her grace her presence in a drama.

She also got unfairly criticized (more like bullied) by some of the usual tv actresses' fandoms in China for not being beautiful yet starring in xianxia drama, so it is understandable that she didn't think of coming back to do more dramas.
I personally believe these critics should get their eyes checked out, cause wdym she's not beautiful??

ALP is adapted from a novel. First 16 episodes are told in flashbacks (is what I heard) in the novel, but the drama chose to expand on it, and I thank the scriptwriter for doing that. You will understand why later, cause I don't want to spoil.

The producer of this drama, as per rumours, filed bankruptcy. The producer also mistreated Xu Kai during filming. Don't remember his name tho.

And when I mentioned about us being selective about believing or not believing rumours, I did not mean the rumours you talk about. There are other rumours, for example Yu Zheng x Xu Kai not getting along.

We seem to want to believe them. I do too, btw.

I saw this rumour on X a few times, even saw it on MDL too.. it was even talked about among our own Xu Kai fandom.

I'm not keeping track of these rumour sources (especially of a guy who has mistreated Xu Kai) I saw some time back to divulge them.
I'm not that miserable to keep track of these things anyway.

Rumours about his bankruptcy or rumours about his mistreatment of Xu Kai?

Cause some us seem to want to be selective about it -- believing some rumours and dismissing other rumours as "don't believe rumours". Whatever fits our narrative.

For marketing, they require more funding. If the producer turned out to be unreliable (like going bankrupt), then investors would not show much interest in marketing the drama.

Anyhow, I can see how my comment can be misinterpreted as me trying to discredit the drama because of the producer's alleged bankruptcy. Nah, I just don't like the producer but I still am excited for the drama. We can do both.

Just like being a fan of Xu Kai but not liking his company's boss, Yu Zheng.

I'm not deleting any rumours (I heard) about the guy who mistreated XK, sorry.

I heard the producer of this drama is bankrupt, and we are seeing the consequences of it.
