Back here for my annual rewatch. Probably because of SJSxSMA chemistry. But reading recent comments, I just want…
Joo Eun and Woo Sik break up before he starts dating Soo Jin. This is clearly stated in the first couple of episodes. I can imagine a bias towards the FL, could cause the assumption that they're lying, but nevertheless, it's clearly stated that they did nothing wrong.
The worst that could be claimed is that having a relationship with your best friend's ex, is taboo. BUT Soo Jin feels that Joo Eun utterly betrayed her, by setting her up for PUBLIC HUMILIATION on a blind date, when they were at uni. Not something you can just forget and move on from! For Soo Jin, they're NOT friends! And as they say, you can't help who you are attracted to, and who you love. Even so, Soo Jin makes efforts throughout the drama, to protect Joo Eun when she can. As does Woo Sik. They are both good people who deserve their HE.
Back here for my annual rewatch. Probably because of SJSxSMA chemistry. But reading recent comments, I just want to defend the 2nd couple. There is NO cheating in this drama!
I really want to like this, and there's been enough to keep watching, but the casual violence, played endlessly as comedy, is just so overbearing. I find it overwhelming for... reasons; but it just reduces the quality of the drama in general.
Damn you Cho Na and your comprehensive lists ๐. My PTW list already needs a comprehensive edit, but yep...I'm considering actually handwriting these ๐ค
The timing of this article, for me, is perfect. I find short form dramas are a great antidote to doomscrolling - which in current times, is just scrolling! There's fewer draggy moments for my brain to get distracted, so I usually manage to stay focussed. The only issue I have is figuring out where to access them... Now how to win the algorithm battle on the YouTube account I share with my 11yo...
Kwak Shi Yang, playing the horrifically co-ercive and violent character, Chung Hwa Seo, who murders his wife; apologised once, in a facetious instagram post, and everything was forgiven. https://www.sportschosun.com/k-drama/2024/09/sc-issue-im-sorrygood-partnerji-seung-hyun-guaciyang-16336 No shade to KSY. He's right. It's acting. But it really highlights what people value, when it's compared with Ji Seung Hyun having to make multiple apologies, to appease the public, due to playing a character having an extra-marital affair.
I absolutely love this! Cannot comprehend that they're training for the Iron distance. Olympic distance triathlon would make more sense. Regardless watching them tri so hard to keep learning and progressing, is my happy place. A lot of this is on YouTube if people are looking...
"In a hellish reality, she becomes a true judge by dispensing justice to wrongdoers". That sounds a lot more like…
That's a singular perspective. Judao Christian and Islamic lore, are not the only ones witb demons, heaven, hell etc. This is a Korean Drama. And they're all stories anyway so this writer has every right to make up their own version.
Blkittykat, I absolutely love this editorial! My first love was Cultural Anthropology and the importance of myths, to understanding a culture, cannot be overstated! It just gives so much more meaning to the viewing experience of movies/dramas, when you have an insight into the myths that influenced them.
Thanks for your very clear explanations and great examples, of each of these myths in shows - you've helped clarify some things for me, in a way that the dry academic type versions I'd tried, did not ๐ณ
Completely side-tracking but the teru teru bozu reminded me: It's both funny and creepy to think about how many rituals or sometimes superstitious practices, we undertake on the regular, that are based on really horrifying origins. Neck ties is one example that springs to mind...it's not a ritual per-se but still a daily symbolic men's attire, that has creepy origins in the plague.
Another awesome article Badass Bunny! I feel like Jeon Mi Do should get a large mention here, along with her 2 cast-mates. Despite the epically tuneless renditions in Hospital Playlist, she's actually a renowned Musical performer. The terrible singing in it, is testament to how good an actor she is!
Oh, and I think Kim Sung Cheol is starring in Hellbound 2, very soon!
Exactly. I prefer it when the subbers give explanations in brackets. But honestly I thought he was pretty well known ๐คทโโ๏ธ ...Netflix shows, restaurants all over the world...
Well...google ๐ Subbing a person out of existence and replacing their name with a pretty awful (IMO) English chef's name, is a very weird kind of whitewashing.
I see "melodrama" and I think South Korean makjang. ๐ฅด๐คจ๐๐
Yep makjang this is not ๐ Whenever I see the melodrama tag on a KDrama, I think 'mellow'. If you went by the dictionary definition of melo, it's definitely different to what you'd expect. (Sorry for my annoying alliteration ๐ฌ๐ )
