I watched the first episode out of curiosity. I enjoyed it, but I think I will wait to see if she gets her own…
The key is "No fault divorce", SK doesn't have it yet (Although there are provisions for divorce if there is mutual agreement). It means you have to technicallly, legally, find someone in the marriage to 'blame,' for the divorce to be allowed. But most places don't have NFD. For example, UK only enacted laws for NFD in 2022!
Jeon Eun Ho's (PO) totally throw away comment, late in episode two, is a big one IMO. To paraphrase: Jealousy is wasted energy. If your partner is willing to betray you, forget about them. They are not worth wasting your time, energy and emotions on. 'Cheating' is just one form of betrayal. I am interested to see if this show explores any further.
Totally different take here but...if it were a real workplace, and I were a real attorney, I would tell HR. They're having sex in a wellness space that's meant to be available for everyone. That is NOT cool (cheating aspect aside) On that basis, I think they chose that location for a bigger reason, i.e. they want to get caught. As to why; I hope that gets explored in further episodes.
Thanks for this! You've given me a whole list of dramas to consider. I LOVE modern C-Dramas, but I'm not a fan of the costume drama genre, mostly because I've found 'historical settings' can often be used to reinforce gendered stereotypes. (I.e.females being considered less than males, in a range of ways) This list definitely makes me more optimistic!
Ahhhhh nostalgia. This screened in the early evening slot on ABC in Australia, through the 1980s and 90s. My siblings and I, got away with unsupervised viewing at that time of day! (It was much less scary than Dr Who, which was right afterwards) I blame it for my early addiction to Kung Fu movies. Very disturbing to watch it as an adult and realise how impregnated with double entendre it is(sorry for the bad pun).
I love this article so much! THIS is the stuff that makes me love MDL. These gorgeous examples of what bring us all together. The many differing points of view, that actually show how much we have in common.
I am running with my interpretation of this as a "How I came to join MDL" story: I came across MDL, after watching Three. 3! So Ji Sub dramas, in a row, in 2016/2017, and really wanting to know if "Meeting your first love in childhood" was a KDrama 'thing' (read: trope). I hovered around as a non-member of MDL for another couple of years (because. Reasons.) Until I finally read an editorial I loved, and felt compelled to put my comment in - I can't remember what exactly, but probably one by Cho Na TBH 😁
I still find that trope troubling, but I am happy to know I am not alone in my committment (read: addiction) to Asian dramas.
Serendipity is a 'fated' or 'fateful' co-incidence. For example, you somehow accidentally end up moving next door to someone who turns out to be your soul-mate... So all those people who say "There's no such thing as co-incidence", believe in serendipity. I.e. that it was 'meant' to happen due to some higher power - fate. It's the stuff that kdrama tropes are made of!😁 Expect this drama to be all about fate.
I watched this coz of the ML facial expression. Always so mad no matter the situation😂
Very late response, sorry, but I was the same.! He has the perfect expression for the saying "If Looks Could Kill". If I knew how to make a meme, I would 🤣
I totally agree TaherRamzan! Serendipity's Embrance sounds soooooooo pretentious to me. The literal translations, Is it fate? Is it a coincidence?; get me contemplating and engaged. Serendipity's Embrace just makes me roll my eyes.
