I think there is NEVER enough said about how good Kim Kyung Nam is. Like Tony Leung , he moves you with his eyes. We don't need to see big gestures or obvious facial expressions, because his gaze is everything. I think too Ahn Eun Jin, has the same ability. This show is so compelling because of the two of them. It's just, a 'must see' (pun intended)
P.S. does anyone know of a Joseon story that has nothing to do with being king/prince and a war for the throne?I…
"Splash Splash Love," is a nice antidote to the whole "Treachery" trope. It's not an actual Saeguk, but is a Joseon story, with some breezy history lessons. And it's a mild intro to the "time travel" trope, SO popular in K-Dramaland.
I may be jumping to an extreme conclusion based upon 1 teaser, but is this an homage to/ based upon "Fight Club"? (Brad Pitt, Edward Norton) I love a good bromance or sismance, but I can't stomach excessive violence, so just need a warning.
I believe it was because unlike in the west, girls couldn't inherit at all (I believe it was the same in France…
Britain and its Commonwealth countries made female inheritance difficult as well - so yep, it's pretty wide spread throughout The West until laws have been introduced to change it. (Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a good example)
Whilst watching this, I keep taking quick sips of my drink and putting it down...in case I get a jump scare and spill it all over myself 🤣🤣🤣 The fear of getting a fright is so much worse than the actual frights in this 😁
i don't get it....why is that old lady funding and supporting the team to find the killer??
This is an out of the box thought, but midway through Ep 5, I had a brain spark. I'm wondering if she's K's grandmother I.e. her father's mother?!? I've been questioning how K and her Aunt are clearly so wealthy (apartment, cars etc.) for no apparent reason. And based on K's parent's car in the US., also wealthy...putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 100 😆 maybe it's all from Yong Sook (the old lady in question)
So many of my drama fav's discussed here...maybe I'm more interested in the many, varied, marriage tropes, than I'm willing to admit 🤔 Thanks for another great article to get us thinking!
LMH is the king of non-con! Great analysis, seconded!
That's a great explanation, thankyou! I know it's a classic but I so far haven't been able to bring myself to watch BOF. You've given me a different perpective here - I might actually be able to do it, finally!

Lord_varvara, I'm kind of fascinated by this. Why do you think that is? Is it that his enduring position in the top 5 "Most Handsome Asian Male Celebrity" polls, makes it more palatable to viewers? It's weird right?!
Thank you, questioning what I watch happens to be one of my superpowers ha ha 😎completely missed that part…
I agree "watch responsibly" - you can't righteously form an opinion if you haven't viewed it at all. I kind of assumed, Squid Game being a social satire, the misogyny depicted was one of the things the writer was identfying and depicting, to show how it's one of Korean Society's wrongs. But as I said, too violent for me, so not watching for now.

I haven't watched Squid Game. Yet. Not much stomach for violence right now. Nor social satire. Give me fluff and romance for a bit longer. And if it's gender equality and acceptance of all, in that fluff and romance, I am there! I need more rec's like "You Are My Hero"
i was waiting for this article but the CLOY reference where he wrote her instructions, i didnt understand why…
I wasn't disturbed by his actions either BUT. You've exactly described it yourself with "almost like a parent caring for their kid". You could definitely see his actions as infantilising her - treating her like a child, rather than a grown, independent, intelligent and successful woman. I also don't think that was his intention (or maybe I don't WANT to think that 🤔) But it's so great to be aware enough to ask that question.
