It seems because drama is set during a time period that really existed, director is putting some efforts into making things as real as possible. Now it might not reach MingLan level concerning a Song-dynasty-set drama but I hope its quality continues to improve with episodes and also I hope that the director kept on inserting little moments or gestures that accurately depict the way of life of the Song population.
Also another thing I really REALLY appreciate about the drama = details about people hygiene during that era.
I cannot describe my glee when I saw a character wash the mouth right after waking up - AT F*CKING LAST !!! And I like how they briefly showed the process of all of this and that type of black liquid they were most probably using for oral hygiene back in 11th century. Thank you ! Plus I like the way the camera focuses on the hands that are being washed with that type of black soap right after entering a room. From the way the set looks it seems the director made a certain effort in describing the everyday lifestyle of a certain class of people during that time period. Guys if you are not appreciative of that I don't know anymore. Besides the streets look more real with some dirt or poodle on the ground. It brings more realism to the whole thing. Plus I like that type of lighting. Little details like those appeal to me. On the young cast, my favourite Female lead so far is Liu Xie Ning. I like Kan Ning don't get me wrong but watching the actual drama I am more drawn towards Liu Xie Ning calm attitude and gentleness. Very charming.
On the male leads I remain team Wang Xing Yue. He is definitely gifted with charisma. He is the youngest among the young male cast but his presence is strong and he is commanding. He knows how to play characters who impose respect.
I really like the dynamism between the sisters so far. This one here for sure is not for people that don't like eventful family dramas because I am telling you this is literally the main spirit of the show. Everything is "family". It is like Song dynasty version of Pride and Prejudice.
