Lol drama MDL comment section went from 1k on 2 june to 32k today with loads of comments full of analyses, positive and negative reviews. One can say whatever one wants on MDL but achieving a number like this on the forum here for a drama of that standard with zero luilang in the cast, is an achievement in itself.

Wang Xing Yue is my fav young Cdrama ML now. I think he got it all : X factor, acting chop, s*x appeal. He only needs to keep on working, remain humble and pay his taxes properly. Hopefully he will ger to work in gritty realistic modern dramas like "The Long night" or "Bad kids" or great modern fantasy dramas "Reset"

"Don't be angry Ah Li" Xiao Heng to Ah Li in ep 7 if I am not wrong, right after she helped her cousin Ye Shi Jje and when XIao Heng invited her upstairs to drink some tea and give her advices. Why I love this line is because of the way XH delivers it : full of teasing and sexual tension - the intonation when he says Ah Li. And they way he was looking at her standing in front of her a lil bit too close. I was like chill man 🥵 !

My favourite parts are When they meet in that nunnery in episode 2 : the tension, the stares, the fans, the cat-and-mouse game, the teasing, the sensuality in the voice etc... I think the drama won at this moment. I liked every XH fight scenes he is so charismatic when fighting ! When XFF stabbed that POS I cheered like crazy.

Great description of the fight scenes in TD. Wang Xing Yue with his Gregory Peck face would have shone in golden era HK drama/movies. He got raw potentials.

The chemistry in TD is thrilling and tastes good. I keep on rewatching the early episodes when the the FL was like " ok I used you to get back to the capital now it is time to move on and go our seperate ways" and ML was " girl I am not done with you !". He even started and call her "Ah Li" without her consent 😎 and in a sensual way 🥵 ! There was that tease and cat-and-mouse game between the leads we usually see in mini dramas. I think from then on the drama won its viewers.

The main leads in princess royal lack the type of chemistry the leads in TD served me

I think the director overthought too much instead of to keep things simple which would have made the execution hit it harder

Because director (now I know it wasn't actually YuZheng fault) is a sadistic B who missed the opportunity to hit it higher and fiercer with the main leads' intense, mature and swoonworthy chemistry and dynamism : burning candle is unforgivable. Now after watching some behind the scene videos interviews of the main leads and director himself it is obvious WXY and WJY brought ideas which made things work : now I feel they also saved the drama a lil bit. YuZheng also made sure he (director) didn't get his way with the ending : that B thought it was a great idea to kill off
Xiao Heng which gave us such a weird ending ! F.ck. Don't get me started on the wedding scene. He cut so many scenes Wang Xing Yue couldn't let it go.

I could see that a lot of things on that show could have hit it off the park easily. The director had no need to overthink stuff.

Actually it managed to work despite its flaws and to suck the viewers into its universe. Drama is mad popular in China and like JOL2, The Double had that thing that made people press play for next episode. Imo the dynamism and chemistry between the main leads especially during the first 25 episodes helped a lot - WJY and WXY cp fandom even grew in China.

With that quality they managed to get almost 7 at Douban. Not bad

That song that kept on playing during that iconic rain scene in episode 17 is my favourite song of the OST. It gives me the same feeling as Liu Yunning song for "Love Between Fairy and Devil"
