On Back from the Brink May 24, 2023
Okay I love this drama even more now! Facing one’s fears, defining what trust means to each one, ML working to win FL’s heart back, showing up for each other even when they’ve got unresolved issues, ML and FL looking gorgeous etc etc. Aagh 😍😍😍😍

Aha! Everything is so suspicious that it’s fun speculating 😀 I did post some of this on another comment thread

DL was betrayed by the fox queen eh? Hmmm hmm

I have a theory that the DL is actually the Fox prince’s father (who is supposedly in seclusion) and he needs the book to break free of some curse that made him dark and which also trapped him and resulted in the death of his wife who was a Taoist. I think the grand master was responsible for this whole fiasco as he was not happy about the union of the Taoist and Spirit clans as that meant peace and Taoists cannot reign supreme over them and so, did something vile to break them up which resulted in all that dark energy being formed. Hence why the Book of Eulogy needs a Taoist-Spirit love pair - to reinforce the strength in that bond and restore peace. 😏

So the true villain is that old grand master who’s been manipulating everyone. LingXiao knew the dude who is now the DL (maybe they were friends or sect members or something) and also probably why all those Taoists have been trapped in those headstones.

Is she in cahoots with the dark lord?? 🤔 Or, maybe the grand master of YH’s sect who seemed like he was cultivating dark energy. Anyhoos, she was kinda suspicious right from the beginning.

Can someone explain something to me? If Dr. Kim was adopted by two white people and raised in America, why does…
One of those things in dramas I try to ignore 🫣🫣 Even the little english he speaks in the drama most certainly does not make him sound like he was in the US for long and grew up with 2 white people. 😬 But we love Dr Roy Kim and his dazzling smile and voice. 😍

I have never seen Kim Byung Chul run so much. He has great form and looks like he used to compete.
LOL! Interesting observation 😀 I went back to check him running and you’re right! He does have good form!

Did Inho always wanted to study art though?
Absolutely. When there is no respect between 2 individuals, the relationship is toxic

That is Dr Cha's best asset - she has always been empathetic and understanding which brings her good luck during…
I feel like this is also the reason for her to hold on to her marriage for so long. She’s always put everyone else’s needs above her own and felt deeply for others. Hopefully now, she can understand that she doesn’t need to put herself second all the damn time 🙂🙂

Is it because the subject matter is about infidelity that the comedy doesn't work, or are you annoyed because…
In reality, people DO make light of this issue in similar ways and laugh it off and is often a topic of gossip in social gatherings as people don’t know or care to understand what’s happening with the people actually involved. I feel like the drama addresses that part of it as well with the overall humour. Sort of like for us as viewers to reflect on ourselves

I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. The way he talks to and treats his kids and his wife is, to me, an indication of how he would have been treated as a child. He clearly has a lot of unresolved issues which is why he is is such a horrible human being as an adult. The difference in the way he treats JungSuk and SungHee is also so stark…which is something I found interesting. And this isn’t merely about his first love vs wife situation I feel. Seems more of a “married to” vs “not married to” difference in his level of commitment or rather, how much of himself he’s giving to each one. I get the feeling that he wouldn’t be any different as a husband even if he had married SungHee.

Yes, they’re such pitiful characters. You can feel SeungHee’s desperation when she told InHo that she wouldn’t…
I understand what you’re saying 😊 At the same time, it’s hard for me to think “Ah SungHee deserves this.” Cos she most definitely does not. There is no shame is what she did and how she lived. InHo did string her along saying he would always be with her etc. And the fact that none of them were ever in each other’s orbits prior to the residency would have made SungHee believe she was perfectly happy and safe in her little bubble. I am not condoning her behaviour and she needs to be held accountable for her actions but at the same time, she made bad choices and I feel sorry for her for doing whatever she thought (and still thinks!) she needed to do in order to survive. I hope she wakes up and realises that she doesn’t need to beg anyone for love and acknowledgment and can be enough all by herself.

In that regard is why I think JungSuk is in a better position. She’s slowly realising her worth and is doing what she needs to do to ensure that she stands on her own two feet - emotionally, physically, financially and mentally. And that is powerful.

As for EunSeo, kids shouldn’t be made to suffer the consequences of their parents’ choices and that’s exactly what’s happening to her. Which is really sad. She’s turning out to the as horrible as both her parents because she’s hurting and doesn’t know how else to be.

InHo is such a horrible human being. But then again, I can imagine why he is the way he is seeing how his mother is and how she treats everyone around her. He is so self-centered and has no respect for any of the people in his life. Even him talking to his son after the death of that patient was about him feeling better about himself for being a “good dad” and had nothing to do with his son. I hope he and his mother get dealt the hand they played, honestly.
