OMG that is the word - nuanced! I had the same thought during ManMan’s death. You know everyone’s depth of their relationship to the dying character from how they’re reacting.

So do I! And I love how we can’t see any of his actual hairline in the back/neck area which is a peeve I have with many wigged actors 😂 His forehead seems so natural and the raised pouf suits him as opposed to ones where its all just smoothed out into the topknot.

He seems completely blind to anything but the superiority of the heavenly realm and that has made him want to mould everyone around him into people who he believes will contribute to his ideology. I also believe his marriage to the empress was political and not a love match per se since she is from a powerful clan. Maybe even just to produce the heir who seals Guixiu cos he does seem eager to embrace the glory of being “YQ the guixui sealer’s” father more than anything else.

And his smiles are so versatile too! You can pick out fond, amused, tender, naughty, frisky, smug! 🥹🥹 And the way he speaks with his eyes! 😍

I think it's the body-soul connection. Essentially, if the body is low on cultivation and soul is weak, they are easier to kill and disappear from existence completely.

As heavenly beings are immortals with very high cultivation and cultivate using pure methods, theirs souls take a physical form after many incarnations etc. I think YQ might have been an immortal soul/born of immortals and then took a form later on, which is why he says that he got his form 2700 years ago - when he first met YT. So killing them without using any weapons or magic that specifically targets the destruction of the soul would only get rid of their physical body and leave their souls intact - which is why their 'body' turns to ashes and their soul floats away. When YQ first died after his battle in Guixiu, he had depleted all his powers which meant his body was really low on cultivated energy. So he literally disappeared without leaving any of his soul behind. They could resurrect him because he left behind essence of his soul in his memories he removed from himself in the forbidden land.

The Dongqui tribe people cultivate using the energy of the ganoderma tree which is filled with magic/energy, and need this for their very existence . Which is why their souls were left behind when the 4 realms killed them off and they poofed away.

The voidwalkers cultivate using negative energy - evil means. The more senior the people, the higher their cultivated energy and stronger their magic and in turn, stronger their souls are. They need to keep cultivating to remain immortal. So the king, queen, first prince etc. Chaofeng was thought to be weak because they thought he didn't do any cultivation as he and his mother were captives. I think the first prince was dispersing when he was killed (and more importantly, he was killed by YQ's magic/energy which is very strong and pure due to his status in heaven) but the queen stopped it from happening using her magic and brought him to the void realm. Yetan absorbed all the cultivated energy of the void king which is why he disappeared. The queen used a lot of her cultivated energy to fight and so when CF's mother hurt her using her magic and aimed for her heart, she also disappeared.

The beasts fall somewhere between the heavenly beings and the humans - their cultivation is higher than humans but lower than the heavenly beings etc. I think ManMan's cultivation wasn't as high as say the beast king or Ding Lang Jue which is why she didn't disperse. She had a mortal body (which I believe should be a bird as that's her true form) and some cultivation to help her take a human form. I think she kept the human form cos of how she was killed (hit by all that negative magic from the void walker fellow) and maybe also because that was what she stayed in the most to keep YT company all those years

He he he! He makes it so easy to let my imagination run wild :) I love Chaofeng and would probably be great friends with him. Sharing crazy stories and drinks and laughing like mad. But Youqin is the good ...man (can't bring myself to call him boy knowing that he is close to 3000 years old!) hiding a wild side and that is very..erm..enticing you see. LOL :))))

And I have to give props to whoever the stylists is/are! I started this drama thinking YQ looked so plain and simply garbed but as the episodes progressed, I began noticing everyone's styling and it's so good! The darker outfits are amazing on the characters. All of them :) And Landi's eye makeup is so gorgeous!!!!!!
