But he also did Jun Jiu Ling, which I adored, so I'm hopeful. š
Seems to me the biggest complaint on Douban for Jun Jiu Ling (that received the 3.9 rating) is the casting of the ML, aesthetically. There were over 5K likes to 1-star ratings (I stopped counting after 10 posts) regarding his casting. I personally think he did a great job in My Deepest Dream, so I saw no problem with him in this role.
ALSO, someone posted about there being an operation to sway public sentiment in a negative way by posting NEGATIVE comments just before the drama aired. So, please don't pin a 3.9 rating solely on the director of the drama. Looking at something from 300ft in the air can give you a better perspective than looking at something from 30ft in the air.
Warning...this is going to be a long post, so buckle up.
I'm so confused about those complaining about the "poor camera movements" from the director. I hope people understand the difference between a cinematographer (DP) and a director. These are two VERY DIFFERENT ROLES. Here's the difference: A director manages the creative process of the entire production (which is Xie Ze's role with this drama), whereas a cinematographer focuses more closely on the visual aspects of a film. If you want to discuss XZ's DP work, then lets. For the record, he wasn't ALWAYS criticized.
Under his DP command, the following drama ranked high on Douban (7.3): Empresses in the Palace Here is a summary according to GROK about this drama: (Edited).
Cinematography: The camera work often employs wide shots to capture the grandeur of the palace settings, but also uses close-ups effectively to convey the intense emotions and subtle power plays among the characters. Lighting is used to dramatic effect, with shadows and contrasts highlighting the mood and psychological states of the characters. Overall, "Empresses in the Palace" uses its visual elements not just for aesthetic pleasure but as integral parts of its storytelling, enhancing the narrative depth and emotional impact of the drama. This visual richness has been one of the key factors in its widespread popularity and critical acclaim.
He was also DP for The Legend of Mi Yue. GROK says:
"Legend of Mi Yue's" cinematography, the consensus seems to be that its visual storytelling significantly enhances the drama's narrative depth and emotional impact, making it a visually compelling watch within the genre of historical Chinese dramas.
Now, let us move to the DP for TSOPG, who, according to IMDb, is Chao Wei who worked on Louyang with DIRECTOR, Xie Ze. I once again consulted GROK regarding the DP and Production Value of Louyang, and this was the result:
Overall Quality: From the quality of the art direction to the lighting, everything about "Luoyang" screams high production value. The drama's investment in its visual storytelling is evident, making it stand out even among other high-budget Chinese dramas.
Critical Reception: Critics and viewers alike have lauded "Luoyang" for its production value, often mentioning it as one of the drama's highlights. This appreciation extends beyond just the visual elements to include the overall execution, which includes the quality of the action sequences and the use of locations.
Overall Execution: The combination of these elements ā from set design to costume, from cinematography to special effects ā showcases a high level of production value. This investment in quality is evident in how "Luoyang" has been received, often being cited as one of the best-looking dramas of its year, if not in recent times.
So, instead of viewing this drama through grey-tinted glasses, I hope we can remain optimistic for this drama and appreciate what weāve seen so far from the actors, the crew, including the DP and Director, and the production team.
ZLY's minions are free to accuse anyone exposing her as Queen Aries however they like, but where does it even…
I feel like I've watched an episode of Kill Me Heal Me when I read her posts. The seven different personalities that come out in one post is quite insane.
Reasons why Zhao Lu Siās acting has my heart (and possibly my tear ducts):1. Cutie Pie Level 100: Her adorably…
4. IKR? Episode 7 of Hidden Love (Airport Scene) I thought I wouldn't stop crying while watching her cry. She just knows how to pull out so many emotions.
I 100% do agree with your remark , but sometimes haters just canāt let go their hates, itās their obsession…
Edited : itās really hard to stay quiet sometimes. Iāve decided to channel my energy towards Lusiās accomplishments. Too many amazing things happening for her right now.
Itās time to mass report again yāall! We did it once we can do it again. Report them for incorrect information,…
Reported, but the most disturbing part is them actually giving a link to their sad, delusional feed. ANYONE can see they DISTOTED Lusi's pictures to prove their lie. It's like watching a viper sink in quicksand. One's not quit sure whether to help pull it out or just let it sink into it's own pathetic demise.
Clearly the person below is an anti fan of ZLS. What kind of fan drop a drama and rate one star? You don't like…
Their OOOAD (Obsession Over Others Appearance Disorder) is quite pathetic. Iāve conducted my own research using profile overlays of Lusi from 2019 to last week. Her nose structure hasnāt changed. In forensics itās called passing the eye test. And, coming here to announce their insecurities of themselves and for their favorite actress makes them quite desperate for attention. I do hope they seek help for their OOOAD sooner rather than later.
Hahaha, i see u have gone to Reddit c drama blog, some of their topics there is ridiculous, but have heard ZL…
I've always loved the saying, "Blowing out someone else's candle won't make yours shine any brighter." Due to their own insecurities, they feel the need to throw darkness on others. Lusi always emerges and just outshines them no matter what, though. Even with promotion and support problems re: TSOPG, it still hit 1M reservations with, I believe, her and her fans carrying the heaviest sword for it.
My romance bones LOVE a good damsel in distress, Cinderella-Knight in Shining Armor type drama. HOWEVER, I'm quickly falling in love with the whole, 'Instead of waiting for her Prince, she picked up her sword and built her own damn kingdom' trope. I'm not sure if this drama is exactly like this but I hope it comes close.
She is such a beautiful positive person, I hope she stays healthy. To my western point of view she appears very…
To me, beyond her beautiful physical appearance, she has the sweetest, softest aura about her. I think this is why so many want to work with her again and love being around her. Even Zeng Li who played her mother both in LLTG and HL visited her on the set of LA recently. She has so many second collaborations with so many past co-stars. Even though I can't wait for her 2nd collaboration with LYN in TSOPG (although, technically, they didn't play the leads and were not the main focus), I like how she works with different ML's because it shows so much of her versatility and talent when it comes to creating and building chemistry.
Personally, because she's such a phenomenal actress, I love anticipating who her next lead may be, and hope it's someone I haven't thought of her ever working with before. For LA, I never would have imagined William Chan, but OMG, the excitement of seeing their collaboration through the BTS has been amazing.
One of the best C-dramas of this year!!! It gives me similar vibe and feelings as Ashes of Love. FL is smart,…
Love the FL and the way she portrays her character. She makes it easy to get lost in the scenes with her. Iāve given up on dramas where I canāt feel the emotions from the FL. Here, it seems effortless between her and ZLH.
Whenever I am disappointed in a xianxia, I rematch Love and Destiny! What a classic. Why didnāt you like TTOTM…
I stumbled upon Love and Destiny last year. Such AMAZING acting. The FL's mortal life tore my heart out, though. The number of episodes intimated me at first, but it was well worth watching.
Honestly all am hoping for is a good story that makes sense at this point, i dont really care about romance but…
This having a great script brings me comfort. To me, the Directing in the trailer looked phenomenal. The post production makes me nervous. Hoping the team takes their time with this one.

Oh, yes! Great chemistry!! To be honest, for me, I haven't watched one drama where ZLS didn't create AMAZING chemistry. She can create chemistry with her livestream hosts, which I find adorable.
